Mum update :

Came home on the 28th December, had the 6 nights in the QEH, her words "They were all wonderful, couldn't have done any more and were all lovely"

Has had 4 physio in home visits, yesterday she took her first few steps with a stick and not the walker, said she was anxious but got around the (small) unit without too many issues but anything longer / outside she'd use the walker.

Step Dad was lost without her, she's been mothering him ( I guess that's instinct ) for the last 30 years and he had no idea what to do. He's now doing washing, cleaning, cooking, all the shit he ( and to be fair I ) should have been doing more of over the years.

Thank you all for your well wishes and concerns.

Completely different generation isn't it. I will always remember my Nan and Step Grandad..... i dont think i ever saw him lift a single finger. Nan would cook every meal, a hot lunch would be on the table at 12 every day, dinner would be served at 6...she would do all the dishes, change the bed lining. Essentially was a full time job in itself.

I tried that on my misses

What is happening Alice Springs ATM

Article posted from ABC site as it gives an overview. Take the politics out of this the problem is real. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-01-23/nt-crime-peter-dutton-albanese-fly-alice-springs/101881658

Youths roaming the street sexually assaulting people, physically assaulting people business being broken into.

The Action for Alice page on facebook gives more detail. The bloke who runs it (premiership teammate) has had his business broken into over 40 times.

NO business is immune, NAAJA (Northern Australia Aboriginal justice Agency) have been broken into several times and desks have been used as toilets.

NT Attorney Generals local office has been broken into over halfa dozen times.

What's scary is it is happening in Tennant Creek, Mt isa, Northern remote WA.

A circuit breaker is required urgently
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Been out of control up there for a while now, get some work up that way and the Police seem powerless despite trying their best, seems as though people are even being urged to stay indoors after dark

But talking to an Aboriginal man and former NT cabinet Minister that is what he is advocating.

Round them up and during the day take them back to school at night get them back home, as one part of an overall solution. get them of the streets and back into a culturally environment that supports them (yes I know some of their home environments aren't the best - seen more domestic violence incidents than hot dinners)

They key here is breaking the cycle of antisocial behaviour and get back to more culturally appropriate lifestyle.

On ABC news breakfast this morning they were interviewing Michael Liddle. He talks, you listen good man. He and his missus have lots of respect NT wide.

Albo would be wise to have a one-on-one chat with him for an hour on his trip there today and then spend two hours going around the town camps to get it for real. Take some smokes with you Albo, that's always a good ice breaker and gets the "true story".

They can’t continue down the same path, local police cannot get on top of it and they are asking for help from the army or AFP. Many people are leaving Alice and that’s not good for them.

Army for me is the logical one as they have the time.

Heard the stories of the 13 year old that was attacking innocent people at a shopping centre with a machete.

Agree get the army in ASAP.
Pretending it’s not happening won’t change anything.
Speaking to a friend recently who’s born and bred in Alice and he said it’s the worse he’s seen by far in his 50 years living there.
There are no stupid questions, just stupid people.

Getting in the army is only a short term solution, has anyone got a long term solution? You fear for the town when one of the major industries is tourism and anyone thinking of going there is going to have 2nd thoughts right now.

They have long term policies and plans in place, it’s the short term they have to get sorted.

What would army personnel be doing now anyway (I don’t know, just asking)

Resident whiner Victoria Fielding says Dutton is a racist and dog whistling for asking Albanese to go to Alice Springs to talk to the people.

So, obviously it's not such a problem because she's very balanced

This the worst thing that can happen, people making it political.

Whether you like Dutton he not he called it out for what it is, "not a racial issue but a social issue" on the ABC yesterday.

The army can not, legally, enforce any law (and order) against an Australian Citizen.

Yep, something has to be done urgently.
We have had several staff up there assaulted in the last few months so much so that some businesses are beginning to take matters into their own hands with staff carrying weapons for defence. Last thing we need is ending up like the US where people start packing guns for protection
