Left arm spin, handy bat, adds to the captaincy, commentates well and is actually likeable. Also quite experienced in the conditions.

Bright is the leading wicket for left arm spin with 53.

Yeh we have had huge success with left arm spinners. Prove us wrong Ashton.

John Gleeson the mystery spinner

I reckon he was the bowler that bowled to Geoff Boycott
Geoff Boycott was facing him and handling him well
He told the non striker " I can pick him , but dont tell the others [ referring to his team mates]

I recall a Gleeson story from many years ago. Was bowling in a county game a week before the first test of the tour.

Was having some “trouble” landing them.

Barry Jarman was keeping and was asked if Gleeson was getting much turn?

Jars replied, well not on this pitch, getting some off the test strip… 3 strips over to the right!

Adam Zampa come out and apparently he was told he was very close to going to India and is guttered to have not been 1 of the 4 spinners selected.
That doesnt surprise anyone that the coach and selectors use poor wording in giving players false hope.
Not saying he should have been picked, but I think its a bit rough to have been teased along.
There was another player also told theyd be picked or going on a tour - just cant think of who it is at the moment and that never eventuated.

Adam Zampa will reassess his future in red-ball cricket after being left "flat" by his omission from the Australia Test squad to tour India next month.

Zampa had been told he was a strong chance of making the trip but the selectors opted to retain Mitchell Swepson as the legspinner after he toured Pakistan and Sri Lanka last year.

Zampa played his first first-class match in three years when he appeared for New South Wales against Victoria in early December where he claimed three wickets. However, he also believed his white-ball international record would hold him in good stead despite an underwhelming first-class return where he averages 47.90.

"I'm very disappointed. I would have loved to have been on it," Zampa said. "Don't know what's next for me now, it's two-and-a-half years until the next subcontinent tour. I thought with the way I've been going in international in particular that this was going to be my opportunity.

"I was really excited to potentially be on this tour, give it a crack. The messaging was my style of bowling might have been handy over there. Potentially last minute that was a change of mind.

"That was the messaging I got six weeks ago as well - that this was going to be a very good chance - but now that I'm not [going] I'm very flat about it and time to move on from it."

Zampa said that coach Andrew McDonald and national selector George Bailey told him his omission was one of the toughest decisions they had to make.

As much as I would’ve liked to see Zampa get a gig it’s kinda like being good for December only and expecting a bike for Christmas.

Yeah but the parents apparently promised a bike.

Not a good look for coaching staff and selectors if they're telling players what they want to hear to string them along.

Pretty sure that was John Holland I reckon? Or Glenn Maxwell maybe? You've got me thinking now.
Edit- I couldn't find any articles on either of them when I Googled it but I did a search on here and reading old posts I think it happened to both but moreso John Holland.

Why did they have to cap it at 18, if they are that sincere just take him, we’re taking too many quicks anyway.

Why would Murphy get a game when he bowls the same genre as Lyon and Head?

IF we were playing shield cricket we could take the players in form.

Zampa has played one shield game in three seasons, taking three wickets. Not making any test team on that. At best he may be in the 50 Over side which does not start until four tests are played.

Interestingly Nagpur (where the first test is being played) saw a left arm spinner take 9 second innings wickets to bowl a side out for 54 chasing only 72 for the win on the fourth day of a first class match. The only other wicket was a run out.

I reckon you'll see 3 spinners for the first test. Jadeja (avg 36) and Ashwin (avg 27) bat as well as anyone on those pitches. So I would expect a 3rd spinner.
