The BCCI has filed a formal appeal with the ICC over the "poor" rating given to the Indore pitch by match referee Chris Broad, an official of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association, which owns Holkar Stadium in Indore, told ESPNcricinfo. A two-member ICC panel will now conduct a review before announcing their verdict within 14 days.

The Test, the third of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series between India and Australia, finished well within the first session on the third day after 30 wickets fell in the first two days. Twenty-six of the 31 wickets in the Test went to spinners as Australia completed a nine-wicket win to claw back in the series after losing the first two Tests.

In his report, Broad had said that the "pitch was very dry and did not provide a balance between bat and ball, favouring spinners from the start". He further stated that there was "excessive and uneven bounce throughout the match".

Broad's rating meant the venue has now accrued three demerit points. This will remain active for a five-year rolling period. If it receives two more demerit points, the venue will be suspended from hosting international cricket for 12 months.

David Warner remains in the frame for Australia's next men's Test assignment – the World Test Championship final against India at The Oval in June – which looms barely a week after the Indian Premier League concludes.

Warner endured a torrid campaign in his abbreviated Qantas Tour of India, scoring 26 runs (at an average of 8.66) from his three innings before being substituted out of the second Test in Delhi with concussion and then returning home to recover from a hairline fracture of his elbow.

Speculation subsequently grew about the 36-year-old's Test tenure ahead of Australia's upcoming WTC and Ashes tour to England, where he has struggled against the swinging ball and averaged 26 (with a highest score of 85) from 25 innings to date.

But Australia men's team coach Andrew McDonald today confirmed Warner, who has re-joined Australia's squad for the three-match ODI Series against India beginning in Mumbai on Friday, is currently in the planning for the one-off Test Championship decider that precedes the five-match Ashes.

"At the moment Dave's fully in our plans for the World Test Championship," McDonald said in Ahmedabad when asked about the veteran opener's future.

"He's coming back (to India) for the one day series, he's recovered from his injury.

"We are continually talking to our senior players with what they have coming up, juggling the schedule that’s in front of us.

"We are staring down 274 days on the road – 144 for the red-ball team, 130 for the white-ball team.

"So there’s going to be some give and take within that."

I did look back at that poor shot he made in test 2 when we capitulated and wonder if he had something else on his mind at the time. Poor shot no doubt but he had a lot going on, clearly.

Makes you realise, we have no idea what's going on in their private lives?
But we all pile on when they're not performing.

That's why they get the big bucks.

I think for team balance Bancroft opening with Usi and Head at 5 is a better looking line up, a good mixture of L and R, in particular up the top where I think it’s essential.

Do we play 2 spinners?
Agree with that mate.

Two spinners for the WTC Final at the Oval you mean? Probably not but reports suggest the Oval wicket has recently been a flat one so you never know.

Yeah, I think I was more heading to the debate of who is spinner #2 now?

Personally I would swap in Bancroft, Cummins and Boland at the expense of Handscomb, Murphy and Kuhnemann. Boland in England is a non negotiable.

I think we’re in good steed now that we’ve got the toughest road trip out the way with, our bowling depth is as good as it’s ever been, I’m not a big Renshaw fan but I think we’re doing alright if we can have the luxury of Handscomb sitting on the bench. Green adds so much value to the team and we have 4 proven match winners with the bat in the top 5, I’m gonna go out on a limb and suggest that Carey will come of age with the bay in the UK.

Go with a proven bowling attack
3 fast bowlers
Nathan Lyon
Cameron Green

As far as practicable treat Indian tours as a blur.
Throw the form guide in the bin.
Get back to what works best most of the time against most opposition

Yep. Cummins, Starc, Hazlewood, Lyon with Boland, Neser, Morris and Murphy as the spares. Murphy is the future and a better spinner than Kuhnemann, but Kuhnemann showed he will be at least taken on the sub-continent for future tours - did very well.

Forget Warner. Open with Labuschagne. Handscomb to 3. Head to 5. Bancroft as back up (purely because of his form- I prefer Renshaw as an opener, but can't ignore Bancroft). Maybe Renshaw goes on tour as well, unless they go with Inglis as back up keeper/batsman.

And this is the problem.

You need to have two bad ratings within a 5 year period, and then you still only get a 12 month ban.

This works in Australia, where its the same venues year in year out, but India has hosted test cricket at more than 50 venues. These places struggle to get two games in a 5 year period.
So the threat of not getting a test match next year isn't a threat, they know they will be rotated out next year anyway.

As such, they don't try and do the right thing, they do what they feel is best to help india win, knowing the ICC penalty is a non issue.

For years I have always disliked the Australian side the most as an English supporter but always respected them outside of a few. India after this series and the last few years have just become my most disliked cricketing nation, they genuinely ruined what should have been one of the best series going around by producing 4 very average pitches. They did this against England after they beat them in the first test 2 years ago and have done so for to long now. India are a quality side that dont need to basically cheat to win. I hope Australia smash them in the WTC final.

Aus 5/173, Inglis chopped on last over for 26.
Marsh played well 81 (65) but Australia's scoring has slowed down since he got out. Need a partnership between Green and Maxwell.
