Myself and Nick Harris called this game for SANFL Now and it was as good as an underage game I've called in a long, long time.

What was also pretty amazing were the amount of Father Son connections in the game, with at least the 10 below that I was aware of.

From memory there were a good dozen to 14 lead changes throughout the course of the contest, with the Double Blues grinding out the win.

NORTH:
Tom Tasker - Son of Sean (NA, GL & ST)
Louis Montgomery - Son of Brett (WA)
Will Blair - Son of Jason (NA)
Oliver Francou - Son of Josh (NA)

STURT:
Connor Mills - Son of Trent (SA)
Ben Spehr - Son of Jason (WWT)
Ned Atkinson - Son of Brodie (NA & ST)
Luca Slade - Son of Matthew (CD)
Sam Waltham - Son of Tom (ST)
Finn Wakelin - Son of Michael (CD)

There was also some other family connections for both sides, with Kobe McEntee for Sturt the younger brother of Power player Jed, Luke Harvey is the younger brother of North big man Mitch, Liam Grubb is the younger brother of former Dogs player and current Rooster Lachlan, North's Under 18's coach Craig Brooks has son Fergus Lamp-Brooks in the team and finally PJ Carlin is the nephew of former SA Olympian Sean.

Round 4 Torrens University SANFL U18 Match Wraps
from sanfl website

Norwood 11.8 (74) d Woodville-West Torrens 10.7 (67)
Norwood has positioned itself nicely on the Torrens University SANFL U18 ladder with a fighting seven-point win against Woodville-West Torrens at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval.

Moving to a 3-1 win-loss record while also ensuring the Eagles fell to 1-3, the Redlegs were forced to work hard in the last term to stave off a Patrick Weckert-inspired comeback.

Highly-regarded AFL prospect Weckert, playing his first U18 match this season after lining up in the Hostplus SANFL League, booted two of his four goals in the final term to cut his team’s deficit to one-point inside the opening 10 minutes.

But key Redleg Will Rowlands had other ideas as he booted his third goal to push his side’s advantage back out beyond a goal, the last major kicked in the contest.

Rowlands was outstanding with his three goals coming from 22 disposals and five marks while Jacob Jones (22 disposals, 10 tackles) and Riley Kirchhofer (19 disposals) were also influential.

Weckert finished with 18 disposals and six marks to be shaded by Eagles ruck Tom Luck (21 disposals, seven clearances, 27 hit outs) and Callum Fairall (24 disposals) on the best players’ list.

Glenelg 15.8 (98) d South Adelaide 8.7 (55)
A sensational seven-goal second term set up Glenelg’s impressive 43-point win against South Adelaide at Flinders University Stadium.

Leading by 13 points at the first change, the Tigers put on the after-burners to boot seven goals without a miss while restricting the Panthers to 1.2 for the second stanza.

It proved to be an incredible display of efficiency inside the Bays’ forward half considering the hosts had five more inside 50 entries for the match.

Bays playmaker James Dutton led the charge for his side with 16 disposals, seven marks and five goals while Izayah Kean (14 disposals) and Harry Francis (16 disposals, two goals) made their touches count.

South ruck Taylor Goad (25 hit outs), prime midfielder Sid Draper (27 disposals, one goal) and Tom Wheaton (18 disposals, one goal) did their best to haul their side back into the contest.

Central District 15.10 (100) d South Adelaide 5.5 (35)
Central District’s Trent Tattoli was a driving force behind his team’s comfortable 65-point win against West Adelaide at Hisense Stadium.

A member of the Torrens University SA U18 squad, Tattoli showed why as he found the ball with ease on the way to registering 39 disposals, 12 marks, four tackles and four clearances while also hitting the scoreboard with two goals.

His dominance played a part in the Bulldogs allowing the Bloods to score just one goal across the first three quarters as James Noack and Will McCabe (23 disposals, seven marks) were other key contributors in the victory.

West’s Sam Burbridge (29 disposals, seven clearances) flew the flag in the midfield for the hosts while Charlie Haysman (23 disposals) and Oscar Talbot (17 disposals) did their best to stem the tide.

Sturt 13.13 (91) d North Adelaide 13.6 (84)
Sturt’s staying-power was a key feature in its come-from-behind seven-point win against North Adelaide at Prospect Oval.

The Roosters were seemingly headed toward securing the premiership points when Tom Tasker kicked truly to open up a 13-point advantage in the 10th minute of the fourth quarter.

But from here, the hosts could only manage one more behind as Double Blues’ goalsneaks Ben Spehr and Connor Mills booted consecutive majors during the start of time-on to secure a memorable triumph.

Sturt’s stoppage-winner Kobee Dabinett was adjudged his side’s strongest performer with 22 disposals and eight clearances while Brodie Maloney and Ted Newman were also hailed by the Double Blues’ coaching staff.

North’s Henry Turner (19 possessions), Jed Dignan (23 disposals, six clearances) and Tasker (16 disposals, two goals) put their side in a strong position to win but ultimately, the Roosters were left to rue their final 10 minutes of footy.

Averaging 40 before the chat Bedge?

:-)

I laugh because despite playing at Modbury (my son and daughter's club) the previous couple of years we claim him, much like Australia does for Sam Neill, Phar Lap and Russel Crowe.

You're dead right though - outright jet.

I'm still claiming him as a a product of my coaching, despite him lasting only a handful of games and then being bumped up into a higher age group.

Dougie Cochrane was sensational for the Bulldogs, booting five goals, with Joshua Reichelt (31 disposals and 10 rebounds) solid across half-back.

Woodville-West Torrens 16.5 (101) d Norwood 13.4 (82)
Woodville-West Torrens made it two wins in a row by defeating Norwood by 19-points at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval.

North’s Tom Stevens was rated as his side’s best performer while Kane McAuliffe and Jed Dignan collected 21 disposals each for the visitors.

Sturt 6.15 (51) d Central District 7.6 (48)
Not even inaccuracy prevented Sturt from holding off Central District by just three points in a thriller at X Convenience Oval.

Despite kicking one less goal than the Bulldogs, the Double Blues’ tally of 6.15 (51) was enough as the hosts threatened to steal the win with a goal to William O’Brien in the 21st minute of the fourth quarter.

Sturt captain Georgie Pope led the way for his side in the hard-fought triumph while Ted Newman (17 disposals) and Kobee Dabinett (20 disposals) also made their presence felt for the visitors.

Bulldogs’ prime movers Tom Giles (29 disposals) and Mitch McDonald (26 disposals) did their best to haul their team across the line together with bigman Jayden Matz (19 disposals, one goal).

Glenelg 11.14 (80) d Norwood 5.4 (34)
Glenelg exploded after half-time to record a comfortable 46-point win against Norwood at The Parade.

Battling hard to edge in front by just nine points at half-time, the Bays clicked into gear after the main break to bang on 7.9 while restricting the Redlegs to just 2.2.

Tigers midfielder Lucas Camporeale, son of Carlton premiership wingman Scott Camporeale, enjoyed a day out while registering 39 disposals and 10 marks while his twin brother Ben and Bodie Ryan each racked up 25 possessions.

Norwood’s Jacob Jones ran tirelessly for his 26 disposals and eight tackles while Declan Tomney (16 disposals) and Latrelle Sumner-Pickett (14 disposals, two goals) helped keep the Redlegs in touch during the first half.

West Adelaide 14.9 (93) d South Adelaide 11.5 (71)
West Adelaide jumped into the Torrens University SANFL U16 top-four with a 22-point win over South Adelaide at Hisense Stadium.

The sides couldn’t be split on the scoreboard at quarter time, but the Bloods broke away as the game wore on, with the home side finishing with ten goal kickers.

Jonty Klemm continued his strong form by kicking four goals in the win, with Gus Downs (24 disposals and one goal) and Josh Goldie (22 disposals) prolific.

South’s Cameron Woods was the leading possession-winner, picking up 33 touches to go with eight marks and nine clearances.

Norwood 14.4 (88) d Glenelg 9.14 (68)
Accuracy was the name of the game at Norwood Oval as the Redlegs beat Glenelg by 20 points.

Norwood booted a precise 14.4 (88) but the Bays were made to rue inaccuracy despite having more scoring shots, finishing with 9.14 (68).

Redleg Toby Callow was one of the stars of the show, booting five-straight goals as Jeff Rozenbilds, Jim Kelly and Jack Hayter all collected more than 30 disposals.

Max Atkin and Ned McCarthy both booted three goals for Glenelg, as Timothy Alver gathered 31 disposals.

Woodville-West Torrens 11.3 (69) d North Adelaide 6.13 (49)
Woodville-West Torrens defeated North Adelaide by 20 points at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval in another match determined by goal kicking accuracy.

The Eagles kicked six goals without a blemish to half-time but the Roosters struggled in front of goal.

The contrasting accuracy continued for the remainder of the game, as the Eagles booted 11.3 (69) to North’s 6.13 (49).

Jevan Phillipou, the younger brother of St Kilda draftee and Eagles junior Mattaes, kicked three goals and Jack Cook gathered 30 disposals for the victors.

For the Roosters, usual suspects Sam Cumming (36 disposals and a goal) and Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier (33 touches and one goal) were strong in the middle.

Central District 17.9 (111) d Sturt 10.9 (69)
Central District handed Sturt its first loss of the season by defeating the ladder-leaders by 42-points at X Convenience Oval.

Sturt kicked two goals in the first two minutes of the contest, but the Bulldogs hit back to lead at the first break, before putting the foot down in the second term.

The momentum continued in the second half as the Bulldogs kicked four goals in eight minutes after half-time, with star on-baller Dyson Sharp leading the home side to a comfortable win.

Sharp was typically prolific for Central, picking up 37 disposals, ten clearances and two goals, while forward Dougie Cochrane booted four goals from 27 touches.

Noah Roberts-Thomson was the Double Blues’ best player, gathering 24 disposals and two goals.

That Under 16 result was an incredible one. Last week, Sturt beat Central by 80 points; thus, a 20 goal turnaround in a week.
