R3 Glenelg V Eagles Monday 7.40

Postby DOC » Tue Apr 18, 2023 6:44 pm

Glenelg coming off a win against Port whilst the Eagles lost a narrow one against South.

Glenelg won this match last year and as I recall there was some commentary regarding the umpires performance.

Speaking of commentary. Spargo and MickyJ who were due to call the reserves for the SANFL Now app have not been able to come to terms with the league. This is a great pity. For Spargo he would not relent on his "green room" requirements of a stubbie a quarter and MickyJ echoed those sentiments in a rare show of unity.

Tough one. Would like to see who the Eagles get back.

The Flag Favs are at home and by a goal.

Eagles look like getting back D Menzel, Toumpas and Knight. McFarlane and Thompson will miss.

There must also be quite some doubt as to Troy Menzel playing this year. Not sure of the circumstances as to when he hurt the knee.

Cant wait for this one

Get there early for the Ressies

Pre match function in the Presidents room

Watch the first half from the old VP area

2nd half at the PP&O area

Post match WED Pints with the Snouts

Stagger back to the Grand, 5:30 am alarm call so can be at the airport by 7:00

Quietly confident of a win but the Eagles whilst not back at their 2021 level are certainly a lot better than what they were in 2022, Where as we're still adapting to how Reeva wants us to play.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

There must also be quite some doubt as to Troy Menzel playing this year. Not sure of the circumstances as to when he hurt the knee.

Troy first injured his knee in round 2 last year and missed about 6 weeks, before coming back for another few weeks and then re-injuring it in about round 13.

Apparently he had the LARS surgery for an ACL when he was a junior (this was the surgery they were doing for some ACLs which only had a 3 month recovery time). After he injured the knee in round 2, the scans showed that his ACL had essentially dissolved to nothing, which apparently is not uncommon for those who have had the LARS surgery.

He's still listed as 4 months away, but like most 12 month ACL injuries, you wouldn't expect much from him even if he does come back this year.

Troy should look to his future beyond footy if any doubts.

I do recall that Graham Cornes finished his playing days with the ACL removed. He maintains that he was able to function quite well without it.

Rowey will line up for his 50th SANFL game on Monday night at Glenelg.

Debuting in 2018, the 2020 Premiership player and Ken Farmer Medalist has returned to the Eagles this year after a 2 year AFL stint, and has been up to his old tricks so far in 2023, averaging 28 disposals per game whilst still hitting the scoreboard over the first 2 rounds.

Go well Jimmy!!!

From Facebook

We can confirm at least one Eagles debutant for Monday night’s League game…

Riley Collier-Dawkins will play his first SANFL match after making his way to the Eagles in 2023 from AFL club Richmond.

We can’t wait to see him in action

I’m not understanding Glenelg being faves in the betting, we seem very unsettled with a lot of work to do.

So have a bite on the Eagles.

Myself, I think the Bays are a better chance of winning than the club is a chance of having a sufficient supply of stout.

Bit of a litmus test this week.

Eagles are improved from last year and whilst not back to 2020-21 standards yet, I'm expecting the acid to be applied and we will get to see how we are progressing with getting the basics right. Hope I'm not seeing red at the end of the night.

Only red I want to see is on tins!
