Lad is 17, been working solidly for almost 3 months getting around a grand a week, it’s only natural to waste some on shoes, clothes etc for the first few pays but then there needs to be a time to focus on saving, he has got more in the bank than I expected but it shits me to tears the Uber eats and pointless Uber trips him and his gf take.

He’ll have his P’s in the next week or two, I’ll see how he goes from there, might just wait til he’s 18 before rolling out the B word, him and his gf stay at least 5 nights a week and I cook pretty much every night, I have all my kids over for a Sunday roast though and I do like to cook, if they weren’t there I’d not eat at night.

I feel like thats the kind of parent i am, i believe there is some life lessons you cant learn until you experience it for yourself and one of them is wasting money.....and eg missing out on something you want to do because you blew your money.

I am a believer of letting my kids make a few 'non-life threatening' 'career destroying' mistakes along the journey but still being there to support them through that.

I've always found it a delicate balance, growing up in Elizabeth in housing trust with at times neither parent working (for one reason or another good and bad) i had to earn every penny and cent i got. Now that I'm in what i consider a good position, my bank account isn't huge but i live well within my means and consider myself rich in love, community and lifestyle the temptation has been to 'give' everything to my kids, so they don't have to go through the stress.

We do similar, don't charge them board but ask them ( 2 eldest girls) to get groceries we need during the week on occasion and pay for tea for themselves and their brother if we're out or away.

Tuna Mornay must be served with boiled potatoes

no pasta
no pineapple (its a thing)
cheese and toasted breadcrumbs on top

I make my mum make it for me everytime I go there

Nope, but it must be made with corn, not peas.

With pasta and a crunchy topping, the best being corn flakes and grated Kraft cheese in the blue box wrapped in alfoil. White pepper.

Breadcrumb to make a crunchy topping I can handle.

But what you've described is something I'd struggle with[emoji1787]
