Lower Eltham Vets Cricket (Golf) Trip Report.

26 old pricks, some who can't play cricket, and many that can't play golf spent 2 days digging holes at the course in Nurmurkah.

Nurmurkah is a 2.5 hour drive from Melbourne, about half an hour North of Shepparton. I am guessing its about another 45 mins to the Vic/NSW border.

Friday - Individual Stableford. Due to Ladies pennant we did not hit off until nearly 2.00pm. As a result our last 2 holes were played in darkness. The presentation of the course was very good. They had the final of their Club Champs the following day. Small green, but quite quick, but very very true. Get them on line & you can walk them in. All on course grog on Friday prepayed from cricket club fines, and every player puts in $10 every game of the season to help subsidise the trip. Needless to say, the golf suffered a bit. I started poorly, duffed my opening drive, much to the amusement of a dozen blokes standing around the 1st tee. Finished with 31 points. Winner had 42 points. Into the club for dinner & we still had $1k tab to get through. Left the joint a bit after midnight. I did my bit to work our way through the tab.

Saturday - Ambrose & a 7.45am tee time...... More than a few sore heads about the place. I bent down to tee my ball up on the first hole. Very nearly over balanced and face planted. Once again my golf was poor. I was no lone ranger here. We had completed the round by 11.30am, which meant beers were on again. Winners trophies distributed, and punters club formed. The next 6 hours on the punt. We drank the club out of Carlton Draught. Fair Effort. Punters club broke even, which was a better result than last trip, so I am told.

Sunday, a quick 9 holes before heading home. The value was excellent $115 a day. For this you got, as much golf as you could play, basic cabin (shared accom), continental breakfast..... plus your dinner..... which was a better than average pub meal/menu. Sensational.

I'll be back next year.

Saturday - flaggy

Late decision to play after work
So had a midday tee time.

Driver behaved itself for the most part
But the rest of it was diabolical sh1t
Thankfully it was stableford so after a couple of poor second shots was able to pick up and keep moving along. I should be better playing in the bushes by now...
Finished with 20points
The highlight was playing 18 and hitting 3 trees before picking up

Flaggy this morning

had a flag dropping off so scoring wasnt important

probably had my best day with the driver. hit every fairway, it was ridiculous, no snap hooks, no blocks or slices

changed a few clubs in and out for something different. played with the old Intech balls that are rockets.
putting was average
tried a few different things around the greens.
consistent 47 on both 9s

hopefully pushes the cap out a fraction

back at Flaggy part of a social comp.

played off 16 - the way the handicaps are done through this system people get rounded down and not up as is the case.
driving was good, not as good as yesterday.
only had 1 shower of rain ging through the 11th (2nd) which i then went onto scrub

2 scrubs and 35pts, thats a win.

Echunga today, rocked up at 8am to a full carpark and a 3 degree setting.

Deadset average golf, hit 32 points including 18 on the back. Driving ordinary, irons ordinary and putting ordinary. Chipping good, probably saved my bacon.

Course in good nick, pretty fast greens. Doesnt need any more rain- if we have a winter anywhere near the last 2 avoid.

 thats unreal! If i get anywhere near 50% of fairways hit IM rapt

Currently eyeing off some new drivers, reckon I will go for one of the Wilson new one's, they have really good reviews and dont come with a 4 figure price tag

It was one of those days where on the tee I had a fair idea where it was going. I'm a short hitter, shotscope stats have me averaging 220m off the tee with Driver, so if I'm to score well I do need to keep it in play. I don't mind leaking into rough if I can have a decent crack at the 2nd shot and advance the ball.

I see Adams are back on the market.
I did have a set of their hybrid set 15 odd years ago and did enjoy them. They were a set that I made the silly decision to trade in and not keep in the shed.
Taylormade I think bought them out 10 or so years ago.

Grange this Friday.

I was looking forward to the day, still am, but not with as much excitement as before. We have a voucher for 4 rounds + 2 carts. I know my ability, average but I play ( not often enough mind you ) and we were taking some guests, one plays of 21 so again, capable. That's all gone to shit and I'm now going with two blokes who have never, I repeat, NEVER played golf before. F*ck me.
PAFC. Forever.

LOOK OUT, WE'RE COMING!
