2023 Adelaide Footy League - Division 7

Adelaide Footy League Talk

Re: 2023 Adelaide Footy League - Division 7

After Bedge alerted us all to his prowess, The Advertiser has run this story this morning:

An Adelaide Footy League forward sits halfway from the 100-goal mark after
just six games of the 2023 local SA footy season, as he aims to achieve the
feat for the first time in his career.
Division 7 club Para Hills’ Daniel Weetra currently leads the state’s goals
tally, remarkably booting 42 majors through his six appearances this year,
matching his 2022 total in nine less games.
The 27-year-old, high-flying goal sneak has taken his game to another level
for the Big Reds, starting his season with nine goals against Hackham, then
booting five against Houghton Districts, eight against O’Sullivan Beach
Lonsdale, six against Ingle Farm, 10 against Mitchell Park and four against
Flinders Uni.
“It has been a lot of fun, but I have to give some credit to my teammates as
well,” Weetra said of his career-best start.
“We’ve got a new coach now in Craig Forby and there’s just a different vibe
around the club, so I’m really enjoying my year so far.”
Para Hills underwent a major shift after being relegated from division 6 last
season, hiring Forby and signing a number of new faces, including Tea Tree
Gully veteran Terry Van Ristell.
Weetra said the new-found talent and drive within the team was the reason
behind his form.
The goal machine said he believed he had the ability to record his first ever
100-goal season in 2023 – something he had always dreamt off.
“It’s everyone’s dream growing up – to kick 100 goals in a year.
“You see it at AFL level with guys like Fevola and Buddy (Franklin), and think
about how much you would love to do it.
“I’m a bit surprised that I
have such a good chance to
do it now, but I’m definitely confident I can.

Heading into the mid year break, I have to say Houghton is the biggest disappointment of the division.

With 2 losses in a row to OSB and today to Mitchell Park. Most would have predicted as wins on Bedgebet.

What is happening out there???
Seems as though they are going backwards??

Now, they find themselves facing both Ingle Farm and Para Hills in the next two rounds.

Bedgebet says they lose the next two, making it four losses in a row and out of the 5.

Only Bedge can make BedgeBet odds.. not a sacked cricket coach.

All jokes aside, your post doesn’t give enough credit to the opposition sides in OSB and Shitzel Park

The comp is actually really tight. There's been some strange results when some of the weaker teams have had to travel, but anyone can beat anyone on their home deck on their day in my opinion

Except Ingle Farm. They'll won both grades very easily. Only hope now is maybe a Greyhound Cup collapse in round 10 or another McDonnell Miracle.

Flinders Uni were very good on the weekend. Lost by 49 points but that's off the back of missed opportunities and a couple of quick goals late in the 2nd / early 3rd that pushed the margin out.

1 goal 8 in the 1st quarter, the Crabs could've put the game well beyond the Farmers.

As a side, they're a serious threat.. and unpopular opinion, but I actually thought structurally they were better than Para Hills and Houghton. On a big, dry ground in the warmth of finals weather, they'll prove a handful.

Good leaders down back that help setup well behind the ball, strong dynamic and athletic forwards, and an experienced midfield. Zoned well and used the ball well.

Expect them to be major players in the back half.

Have Houghton lost players from last year? They do appear to be struggling this year quite a lot - would have thought they would be top 3 for sure.

Ladder after Rd 7
12 - Premier Hills
12 - Ingle Farm
08 - Flinders Uni
08 - OSB Lonsdale
08 - Houghton
******************

05 - Mitchell Park
02 - Hackham
01 - Mawson Lakes

Round 8
Hackham v Para Hills
Houghton v Ingle Farm
Mawson Lakes v Flinders Uni
Mitchell Park v OSB Lonsdale

D7 has come alive with a few shock results in recent weeks. Log-jam form 3rd to 5th enticing battle, and Mitchell Park with a couple of quality weeks closing in fast behind - they'll be disappointed not to have collected maximum points against Mawson Lakes though.

The battle for 5th will be interesting, and the flow on to B grade - given the B grade will follow the A grade fixture, potentially will have Houghton (2nd D7R) play the bottom 3 teams in D7R in the final 3 rounds.

Getting tough to identify a clear top 5 in the 1's at the moment, each side is capable on it's day.

What a pathetic write up.

D7 has come alive. What a few underdogs were able to out coach a poorly coached Houghton, and you 'try' to bring the division alive again???

Come on, Bedge, you are better than that!!!!!!!

At the end of the day, this division is between Ingle Farm and Premierhills (as you have named them).

Unfortunately, the only interesting thing this division has got going for it, until finals start is if Premierhills Forward Weetra kicks 100 goals for the season, along with the S#!t your writing.

Ladder after Round 9
16 - Para Hills
16 - Ingle Farm
10 - Flinders Uni
10 - OSB Lonsdale
08 - Houghton
*****************
07 - Mitchell Park
03 - Mawson Lakes
02 - Hackham

Round 10
Houghton vs Mawson Lakes
Mitchell Park vs Ingle Farm
OSB Lonsdale vs Para Hills
Hackham vs Flinders Uni

Congratulations to Mawson Lakes who broke through for their first win at the weekend, lifting themselves off the bottom of the ladder! Para Hills still setting the pace at the top, comfortable 51 point winners over Houghton who have dropped away drastically in recent weeks.

Mitchell Park with what most would believe a massive upset over Flinders Uni to move a point behind Houghton, whilst Ingle Farm overcame a slow start against a determined Sullies outfit to run away comfortable winners.

Are Houghton in danger of missing finals this year? They've dropped their last 4 games and the next 3 (ML, FU, HACL) wont be walkovers by any stretch. Have fallen from premiership favorites to 5th - but their best is as good as any - they beat Ingle Farm in Rd 1, and their B/C grade look to have very good squads.

Mitchell Park could be a dark horse, whilst they sit in 6th spot with only 3 wins, they've lost two matches to OSB Lonsdale which they should've won after controlling the matches and having more scoring shots, and scrapped a draw against Mawson Lakes. They easily could've been on 6 wins and outright 3rd spot.

Para Hills remain the team to beat though, just continue to go about their business with no fuss, ticking off each week as it comes.

Weetra Watch:
65 goals (9 games).. 35 goals needed from 8 minor round games.. A chance for a bag against OSB Lonsdale this week, and then Mawson Lakes Round 14.

Not that I'm bitter, but more scoring shots and healthy leads given up in both games - they sting a bit.

Not to mention some highly questionable goal umpiring late in the second game from a dude who was openly barracking all game. Something to keep an eye on for other teams and OSB in my opinion.
