Daily Golf - Where you are playing and how you go

Had the discussion at golf last Sunday week about Par and how it's not overly popular.
I like it myself, it's just golf.
But the consensus was it's the low handicap players who don't like Par the most.

Essentially it's just match play v the course..... plus is a win v the opponent, minus is a loss and half is shared.

But everything can be converted to a stableford score anyway

IMO just get on with it and play golf. Could always stay home and spend time with the Mrs [emoji6]

Yep, that's part of the discussion.
Even a recent stroke round has been adjusted to stableford... I had 106 adjusted to 98... I've never seen that before...

I think Par is more of a mind set thing more than anything, for example on our Par 5- Index 1 Stroke or Stableford i'm thinking Birdie on the tee and trying to position myself to getting my 3rd going at aggressively at the pin, yet in Par round, As i get a shot on it, my mindset just changes to getting Par and walking off with the + (Plus), But as Heater stated it get converted to stableford anyway so my mindset shouldn't change.

Whilst i understand if gets converted to stableford for handicap purposes, what i dislike (for example) is on our first 3 holes- Par 3, Par 4, Par 4 if i was to go bogey, bogey, birdie in stableford i'd be 6 points (on handicap), yet in Par i'm 1 down.

Anyway a sh!t round of Par is still better than being at work :D

Its a lot fairer than stableford for lower handicappers as you don't have high handicappers getting 4s and 5s on holes and coming in with mid 40s. But if your just playing for yourself its 100% a mindset thing. I only get 1 shot in the first 6 holes at the bay so its very easy to be +3, +4 with what feels like a reasonable start. Couple down in stableford feels easier to make up than in par. I've started turning off the mid round scoring in the app and just play each hole on merit and playing a lot better for it.

Absolutely spot on mate, we can certainty over think the game rather than just playing each hole as it comes.

Ironically i've played some of my best rounds hungover, as all i can think about is how bad my headache is!

100% this.

I love par. It’s match play vs the course for me.

Monthly medal

Started very ordinary. 49 off the front. Just couldn't get anything going.
Finished with 94 so back 9 salvaged a little bit.

So been a strenuous discussion at the selection table and to mix it up, putting back in the 24yr old clubs  for tomorrow morning.

Same for us Monthly medal.

Double on the first the day didn’t improve, in the water twice on the same hole, hit the club roof teeing off on the 9th, 3 putted twice. Didn’t do anything well………….

Nett 80. My worst score in as long as I can remember.

The old clubs, Proline Impreza. Years ago (probably 15+) I regripped the 6,7,8,9,sw to a reverse grip but not the 3,4,5. If you don't hit the 3i solidly you know about it.
Hit them alright. They live to fight another day.

Played this morning with my son for the first time in 30 odd years. A little rusty

Terrible at teeing off but still can chip and putt. Chipped in from about 30 metres.

Looking forward to playing again soon.

Just Marion I think it was.

I just couldn’t get any air in my tee shots.

Not a bad little course. Think the 6th green has views down the coast and the city

9 holes this morning in the rain.
12 points.
Driver still not behaving.....
Highlight was knocking it to 3ft on par 3 7th and did make the putt.
Some of the greens were becoming unplayable pooling with water

How are the courses around the place looking after this weeks rain? Glenelg is the worse I've even seen it this morning with the newly rebuilt holes not growing in properly yet and the old holes full of mud. Cant imagine the rest of the courses around are looking much better.

Flaggy is ok. Is muddy in a few spots, had a drive on the 10th get plugged
Most bunkers are out of play at moment as GUR
This morning was worse than yesterday with the water pooling on greens
