The Goody Saints folk should stand proud of 33 consecutive seasons in D1 with 10 or whatever number of flags they have won. But it shouldn't be treated like a death in the family. 20% of D1 gets relegated every season and it's getting harder and harder to stay in the top 8 from year to year as seen by the 4 Premiers from 2017 to 2020 (ROC, TTG, PNU, Goody) all being relegated to D2 since. TTG have got themselves back up and the next 3 weeks will determine if PNU and/or ROC can get themselves back up for 2024. Although pretty sure that Golden Grove will ensure there is only one other promotion spot up for grabs.

Goodwood played in a D1 Prelim only last season which highlights that it's such a fine line between being a challenger or scrapping to avoid relegation in D1. We've been one of those scrappers since being in D1 and it makes for a stressful back-end of the season that would be nice to steer clear of next season. Probably the strangest thing about Goodwood's relegation is that their B grade are undefeated (if you don't count the win taken off them) and their C grade only lost 4 games and still a chance of a flag if they can get past the undefeated PAOC C grade.

Different Div but Henley were relegated. Their Bs finished 2nd lost 1 game, their C’s Top lost 1 game, their D’s top undefeated and their E’s finished 4th and their As couldn’t get that extra win to save them. Henley great depth but not up to A Grade level

Uni being given an extra win didn't help Henley's case either. Take that out, they stay in Div 2.

Anyway, had a couple of 1st pick champions taking the year off to allow them to pursue their career after footy. Those players will be back next year as will the playing group from this year. Perhaps not so for the backroom football department! The B's and C's will win flags in their respective grades. As they have done for years. Girls have just gone 4 in a row (Goodwood likes doing premierships in a row).
Hopefully The Saints will return as a force in 2025.
WE WILL BE BACK!!

Nice story, sounds like entitlement in a very tough competition though with your opinion. Proud club, just let the performances talk.

Tom Carter will be a massive in next year for them. Took year off as was joining the MFS. So will be super fit and a massive inclusion. I’m sure they will recruit well. They won’t be in Div 2 long

As an observation from this year the top 5 of D2 feels not hugely different to the bottom 5 of D1 last year.

Strikes me as a prick of a comp to get out of

That's a bit out of whack isn't it?
Surely C1 - 2nd Semi should be played at the cow paddock?

And Div1R be switched around. Why does Glenunga Div1R get a home final when both Glenunga and SHOC A grade have a home final and SHOC Div1R finished 2nd to Glenunga 1R 5th.

The Update cleared that up

Can we be clear. There is NO rights to host a home final for B grade or lower and there never has been. Telling Aaron and Sharon that’s not the way it used to be because they’re new doesn’t wash.

47 MAJOR ROUND

47.1 A Member Club listed in bold in Clauses 47.7 and 47.9 may apply to The League to host a Men’s Division 1 to Division 7 Major Round Match (“Home Final” or “Final”) excluding a Preliminary or a Grand Final on their Home oval or an available neutral oval of their choice.

a) a Member Club’s Home Final request to The League is not applicable for a Member Club’s Reserves or “C” Division team.

47.4 The League shall endeavour to match teams from the same Member Club to play at the same venue.

a) a minimum of one (1) match shall be played before a Men’s “A” Division Major Round match.

b) preference shall be given to a Men’s “B” Division team to play such earlier match.

For example.

Glenunga A Grade finished top

Glenunga B grade Finished 5th

Sacred Heart A grade have a home final v TTG

As the rules are currently written, if there was an argument that Sacred Heart B grade finished higher than Glenunga B grade is superfluous to the debate. If applicable the highest ranked A grade gets priority, in this case, Glenunga.

But if Glenunga B grade were bundled out last week, Sacred Heart B grade would be playing at Sacred Heart and Goodwood v PAOC would be at Webb because in this case, PAOC would be the highest ranked A grade team so their B grade would follow. But SHOC B grade would only be at Sacred Heart by default, not through some devine Somerton Park Marist intervention over the Dequetteville Tce Methodists.

By rights, PAOC C1 team should be playing at Webb with their A grade but wanted to play at Sacred Heart with their B grade. SHOC C grade get a home final because PAOC wanted to play there for whatever reason doesn’t matter.

And Goodwood B grade go where they go because there’s no A grade to consider.

If anyone has a better way to consider it, there’s a Rules and Regs review for you to propose alternatives. If not, it is what it is just as it has been in recent memory and no doubt implemented to offer some points of reference because of claims for home finals.

There has to be something in this, surely. Lead the league, play 19 games straight, then get dropped...

I'm only guessing but it looks like a points problem

Curren 3
Mazzini 3
Davis 3
Bradley 4
Tozer 3

Jordan Neal (ruckman) is not in the team so they have to play Tozer who's 3 points
The loss of the extra point for finals has got them. They could have played them all with 16 points

You are spoton, Jimmy. It is a points problem.

No ruckmen available (Neal) meant the bringing in of Tozer (3 points) so someone had to go out.
Very stiff on the young man - especially when it would have been okay last year with 17 points being allowed for finals.

Anyone know why it changed especially given the extra player on the bench?
