Lose? It's Ken f..king up, sign Josh Carr and make him our coach.

Other than:
1. Port definitely changed their style of game mid season
2. They re-signed Hinkley because of the wins

I like Hinkley but that was stupid.
I doubt Gold Coast were ever after him
The Hardwick thing was set up much earlier in the year
Yep, I still maintain that the AFL orchestrated Hardwick’s move to the Suns and told him to take 6 months off and freshen up whilst at the same time allowing him to work on the Suns list behind scenes. Hardwick will hit draft day running and is probably already settled up on the Gold Coast

Everything about the AFL is orchestrated now with draft compensations, fixturing, inconsistent suspensions, inconsistent fines, pathetic umpiring, unfair travelling and location of games, different venues with undercover away from the rain, or in the middle of buttf..knowhere in the rain, cold, or heat etc etc. There is so much they can control. And the worst thing is every time they do, it promotes the game cause we all talk about it.

If it helped get in a key back I think I'd pull the trigger & back another young lad in to play the wing role.

Probably a bit rough to single out an individual player, but I thought Ryan Burton was the most disappointing of the lot this season .. Didn't realise how often he avoids body contact.

Clarkson threw him in as a give-away in the Wingard trade. Was always a problem.

Jesus Christ, last week he keeps Cameron out of the game for all but 3 minutes, this week he's a squib who was a set of steak knives in a trade.

He's always been a squib.

As I posted 4 years ago:

http://safooty.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=42488&p=2379072&hilit=Burton#p2379072
Burton is a worry. He's one of only a few good by foot, but he's also scared of body contact. There's clearly a reason why Clarkson was happy to let him go.

And again 2 years ago:

http://safooty.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=43496&p=2505904&hilit=Burton#p2505904
Burton skills are good but he's scared of shadows. I get the game has moved on from 2002 but compare him as a small defender to say Michael Wilson. I'll take the bloke that has no shoulders and has been out of the game 15 years thanks.

I know you rate him, but I've always seen him as a soft AFL player.

My bad, I’ll concede I didn’t catch any of the Brissy game, but I’ve seen most if not all of your last 12-15 games apart from that one. The lad has ability so maybe I expect too much from him, but for mine he was highly disappointing.

Port are an average side--How many of their players would make any of the sides left in the finals.
i would say no more than 5 maximum.
Then do the opposite to understand of where they really are as a footy side.
My opinion(not that it matters)is that they had a good year based on the players they have at the moment.

Dutchy wrote:Cant agree with that, Kochie actually put the club into more debt when he took over to beef up the footy spend, he was very open about getting the footy department right as their core business, even if that meant carrying the debt - this has been the case. They got the club very competitive again and are now chewing into their debt, it was a high risk strategy however it looks like it will end up working, not sure if they have to raise more debt for the reno's at Alberton or if that is all gov't funded.

Richo seems to have done a great job after the handball pass he rec'd.

The risk associated with this was the China Strategy.

Pre-COVID this paid massive dividends, without COVID we would have debt paid off by now ( that was forecast internally as 2022 ), MG* has stuck with us, as has Shanghai Cred. Their support post-COVID could have been lost, but it thankfully was not. More debt paid down this year I believe.

( *MG was at the start of a 10 year strategic plan in Australia )

Not soft agreed but there is a scale of willingness to take a hit, some are willing more so than others but none are soft.

Any club would look at Duursma but not sure about an ageing and slow Wines.

Would happily take Wines.
We have too many midget mids with noodle arms and need some real strength around the ball.
Wines for Zerk sounds fair ;)

A real "sliding doors" moment when Geelong interviewed Hinkley for the coaches job back in 2010.

Play Wines in the middle and not on the wing and he wouldn't look either.

Anyone of them can start at half forward and slide in. Playing Wines on the wing makes no sense.
