Creek v Cally. Creek too strong. Cally with no Nate Fitzgerald looks a much weaker side.

Lobey v Nairne. Lobey look very strong with the return of young Hackett plus Martin, Matthews and Weeks. No Hein boys for Nairne are fairly significant absences for the Razorbacks.

Maccy v Hahndorf. Hahndorf got up last year over Maccy towards the end of the season which really wrecked Maccy's charge for the finals. Hahndorf look reasonably strong now with the return of Hudson T-Walker to help Jenner with the bat, however Maccy still have quality with Barrett and did thump Hahndorf by 10 wickets last season. Maccy in a very close one.

Woodside v Strath. Woodside look a bit thin bowling wise with a few names i dont recognise however it is at Woodside where they are a very tricky team to play against. Collins, Bash and Johns will need to get wickets but with no Abbott's named for Strath expect Woodside to get up and Wingers to score plenty unless Gaiter can get him early.

Well Three out of Four aint bad.

Creek thumped Cally. Well done Dan Kropp on a ton. Add the missing lads into that side and look out.
Lobey thumped Nairne. Lobey bowling attack is very strong and will challenge everyone.
Maccy thumped Hahndorf. Disappointing result for the Magpies to be fair.
Woodside got knocked off by Strath in a great win for the Stallions. Chasing 196 at Woodside is not the easiest thing in the world and from 5/83 at drinks to get a win 6 down is a great win for the Stallions without the Abbotts.

Yeah great knock by Kropp for his first ever century I believe.
What was the scores in the Hahn v Maccy game? Only one I could find any scores for.

Story found in the Mt Barker Courier 29/7/1898

Hills Cricketing Association.—There is now on view at Messrs. Stevenson Bros. window, Rundle-street, Adelaide, the Hills Cricketing Association Challenge Cup, presented by the president, Mr. C. G. Gurr. The Hills Association was founded by Mr. Gurr some three years ago and consists of the Summertown, Uraidla, Basket Range, Norton's Summit, and Fifth Creek clubs. The officers are :—Patron, his Excellency Sir T. Fowell Buxton ; president, Mr. C. G. Gurr, J.P.; vice-president, Mr. W. H. Duncan, M.P.; secretary, Mr. T. Stephens (Norton's Summit) ; and the committee of management consists of delegates from each club in the association. The cup, a beautiful specimen of the silversmith's art, has to be won three times in succession before it can become the property of any one club. It is engraved as the " President's Challenge Cup " and was won in the 1896-7 season by the Summertown Club and in the 1897-8 season by the Fifth Creek team. The names of the winning clubs are engraved on pretty silver shields attached to the cup. Mr. Gurr's generosity has resulted in the interest in Hills cricket being greatly intensified, the contests for the annual possession of the cup having been keenly contested.

AEHCA Rd 2 Tips

Cally v Maccy. Maccy to win comfortably. Nice to have two of the weaker sides first up to kick start your season.
Hahndorf v Lobethal. Yep, Lobey win.
Strath v Nairne. Strath have three Roberts boys in the side this week including young Jack who must have a bye from District. Strath should win at home.
Woodside v Creek. Cleggett is back but do my eyes deceive me or do i see Trevor Potts in the lineup? No Warren and no O dea but Kroppy is there. Creek still have enough quality so backing them in,.

I believe that was correct at the time of printing . Same story when a team has a heap of players missing and everyone from lower grades refuse to go up so sometimes surprising selections are made to keep the peace. Certainly not a rare occurrence at the Creek
Anyway rumor has it that a player that was unavailable has since mysteriously become available so the shock inclusion may be relegated to carrying the drinks.

Looks 3 obvious results with the Woodside v Creek game the tricky one to pick :?
A weakened Creek team still have an ok batting line up but without the experience of Warren, O'Dea, Dawson etc may be suspect if they lose a few early wickets. Creeks bowling look their weakness with only Blackwell and Cleggett their only regular bowlers so certainly an opportunity for Woodside batsmen to knock up a score

Copied from The Fleurieu App: HCA Round 1 wrap.

Anthony Tucker
15 October 2023, 5:00 PM

Stirling made a strong start to their premiership defence with a comfortable eight-wicket win at Kangarilla during round one action in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) yesterday. Kangarilla batted first and got themselves into a good position at 1/71 with Ryan Grimmond (34) and Lachlan Knight (31) adding 67 runs for the second wicket. Stirling were keeping it tight and turned the game in their favour by taking the last nine Kangarilla wickets for just 33 runs as the hosts were bowled out for 104. Jacob Kemp was the unlikely destroyer for the Eagles with 4/8 (4), while Chris Shaw (2/17) and Jack Pick (2/20) were the other multiple wicket takers. Stirling were relatively untroubled in the run chase as Jack Read (41), Kemp (23 not out) and Pick (18 not out) knocked the runs off with 12 overs to spare. Baxter Knuckey (1/16) and Grimmond (1/20) were the wicket takers for ‘Kangies’.

Aldgate got their 2023/24 campaign off to a winning start with a five-wicket win at home against Meadows. Meadows batted first and at one stage were 1/88 with Luke Tonkin (32), Brad Dawe (29) and Rohan Reid (25) making handy contributions. Enter Frank Clements (4/38) and Henry Brasher (3/33), who combined to take the next seven wickets for just 37 runs as the visitors slipped to 8/125. Some good late hitting from Callan Blackwell (33 not out off 33 balls) lifted Meadows to a total of 171. Jack Woollard made a good comeback from injury for the ‘Gaters’ with the excellent figures of 2/12 (9). Josh Callaghan (37) and Mitch Thomas (18) got Aldgate off to a good start with an opening stand of 62, before three quick wickets saw Aldgate in a bit of trouble at 3/82. Max Bilsborow (19 not out) joined Clements at the crease and this pair put on 49 for the fifth wicket before Clements went for a typically hard-hitting 57 from 42 balls. Clements’ innings included four boundaries and five ‘maximums’, with Aldgate eventually passing the total with 10 overs to spare. Veteran Chad Dawe was clearly the best of the Meadows bowlers with the fine figures of 3/16 from eight overs.

Mount Lofty defeated Mylor by four wickets in a thrilling round one encounter at Heathfield yesterday. The game was delayed by rain and reduced to 35 overs per side with Mylor batting first. The Pipers posted a very competitive total of 6/187 with Nic Wilson (60 off 84 balls), Tom Plant (27 off 51) and Liam Tansell (20 off 9) the leading scorers. Brad Hutton was the pick of the Redcaps bowlers with 5/31 (7), while Zef Wood claimed 2/33. The Mount Lofty run chase was underpinned by a fine innings of 75 not out (85 balls) from Redcaps skipper Jordan Neis-Beer. He was ably supported by Peter Giannes (28) and Wood (25), while Jack Miller hit the winning boundary with five balls to spare. Matthew Steadman (2/31) and Oliver Barnes (2/37) were the multiple wicket takers for Mylor.

Scott Creek Ironbank (SCIB) made an excellent start to the season with a four-wicket win against Bridgewater at Cherry Gardens. The Raiders batted first and they never really got going as they were bowled out for just 127 in the 28th over. Jackson Hooper (21) was the only batsman to pass 20. Suresh Sripada (4/31), Daniel Desengo (3/32) and Daniel Key (2/21) were the main destroyers for SCIB. Key (25) and Adam Shearwood (12) added 35 runs for the second wicket as SCIB appeared to be cruising at 1/46 before a collapse of 4/18 saw the home side in strife at 5/64. Darcy Campbell made a handy 13 (19 balls) and then Desengo (11 not out) joined Aaron Thompson to add 41 runs for the seventh wicket to get their side over the line in the 35th over. Thompson was the undoubted star of the innings for SCIB with 52 not out from 59 balls (4 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s). Caleb Risson (3/29) and Finlay Sullivan-Llewellyn (2/36) were the leading wicket takers for Bridgewater.

Great initiative from Mark. Easy bloke to chat cricket with.

It was a bit of a relief for us to open with wins in both grades. Certainly the young C’s team enjoyed taking the points against Lobey, given most of them play footy there. Looking forward to renewing hostilities with Woodside this weekend in the A2’s.

So 2 rounds in and we have four teams 2-0 while the other four are 0-2.

Tips for this weekend
Lobethal to get up over Strath.
Creeks over Nairne (which would leave Nairne 0-3).
Woodside just over Maccy but this should be a good one.
Cally to beat Hahndorf

Well done to Hahndorf on getting their first win of the season. Good contributions across the top 6 which is excellent to see. Get Trafford Walkers back into that side and they do have enough quality to compete with the top sides. Just need contributions from everyone.

2 weeks into hills cricket and its looking at being one of the most even comps you will see. Aldgate and Stirling probably top 2 but anyone can beat anyone on a given day as shown yesterday with the two teams probably expected to be bottom 2 in Kangy and Scibs knocking off Lofty and meadows respectively. Bridgey after being undermanned last week should be a decent threat with Watson and Tait playing also.

3 weeks into A&EHCA and is the Top 4 set ? Of course it isn't but be a surprise if it changes from what it is atm.
Lobey
Creek
Maccy
Strath

Round 4
Hahndorf host Woodside - After starting with 3 home losses on the trot, Woodside might have more luck on the road? caleb 777 on fire with his tipping so i'll leave this one to him ;)

Flag faves Lobey host the struggling Cally Cobras. Will be a major shock if Lobey dont win this easily

Nairne host Maccy - Well well well. One wouldn't have seen this coming a few years ago. Maccy are 3 from 3 whilst the once powerhouse Razorbacks are still searching for their 1st win. This is a perfect opportunity for the Redbacks to show they're the real deal and being ruthless when they're expected to win. Nairne will be desperate for the win in the hope they can them build some momentum before their season is completely shot. Maccy is the tip but a Nairne win certainly wouldn't surprise

The local derby between Creek and Strath will be played on the Sunday with an 11.00am start
Without counting the Creeks have won about 25 Minor round games on the trot so will start the fave and is the tip. Strath with a bit more of a youthful look about them are up and about tho being outgunned by Lobey yesterday and will take it up to the Creek if they're not fully switched on.

Top 4 look pretty strong right now i agree. I think Lobey and Creek look very tough to beat with Maccy playing really solid cricket right now.

Ill wait until i see the sides for the game before i make any picks haha

HCA Round 2 Wrap

Scott Creek Ironbank & Aldgate undefeated in Hills Cricket

Scott Creek Ironbank (SCIB) made it two wins from as many starts with an excellent seven-wicket win at Meadows during round two action in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) yesterday. It was the first time SCIB had defeated Meadows in 10 years. The home side batted first and posted 7/181 from their 45 overs with Rohan Reid (41), Brad Dawe (38 not out), Luke Tonkin (32) and Oscar Tydeman (29) the leading run scorers for the Bulldogs. Beau Thomas (3/41) and Samuel Hill (2/28) were the multiple wicket takers for SCIB. Scott Creek Ironbank got their run chase off to a great start with Adam Shearwood and Thomas Watton adding 92 runs for the first wicket before Watton was dismissed for 46 (57 balls). Shearwood continued on to make a fine 96 from 97 balls (14 x 4’s) as his side knocked off the target in the 37th over. Tom Bevan-Giles (2/51) was the leading wicket taker for Meadows.

Aldgate also won their second game to start the season with a five-wicket victory in a high scoring contest with reigning premier Stirling at Stirling oval. The home side batted first and got off to a flier with Jack Read smashing a quickfire 48 from 30 balls. Read’s innings included two boundaries and five sixes. After this fast start, regular wickets fell as the Eagles slumped to 6/120 before Harrison Webb and Pete Fryer came together to add 86 for the seventh wicket. Fryer made an important 47 (43 balls), while Webb continued on to top score with 67 not out (90 balls). Jack Woollard (2/20) and Shaun Atkins (2/39) were the leading wicket takers for the ‘Gaters’. Aldgate had a tough job in front of them as Josh Callaghan and Mitch Thomas came out to open the batting. This pair put the game well in Aldgate’s control with an excellent 166-run opening stand before Thomas was dismissed in the 30th over for 94 from 90 balls (12 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s). Callaghan went in the next over for 59 from 91 balls (5 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s), closely followed by Max Bilsborow (1) who was run out, as Stirling had a bit of a sniff of victory all of a sudden. However, Atkins put the game to bed with a hard-hitting 25 (26 balls) with the winning runs coming up in the 43rd over.

Kangarilla won their first game for the season with a four-wicket win against Mount Lofty at Heathfield. The Redcaps batted first with Nick Justice (28) and debutant Josh Mitchell (48) the mainstays of the top order. At 7/129 a score of less than 150 was on the cards as Adam Bennett (17) joined Connor Milde. This pair put on 55 runs for the eighth wicket as the home side posted 8/184. Milde went on to make an important 41 not out from 46 balls. Baxter Knuckey (3/33) and Ryan Grimmond (2/35) were the pick of the ‘Kangies’ bowlers. Grimmond and Steve Featherstone opened up with an excellent 99-run stand before ‘Feathers’ went for 30 (41 balls). Grimmond continued on to top score with 66 from 61 balls (8 x 4’s, 1 x 6), while Jono Makai made a hard-hitting 49 not out from 54 balls (3 x 4’s, 2 x 6's) as Kangarilla got over the line in the 36th over. Matt Pistola (3/43) and Will Healey (2/47) were the main wicket takers for Mount Lofty.

Bridgewater are on the board in 2023/24 after a convincing 121-run home win against Mylor. Bridgewater batted first and posted a competitive total of 191 with the returning Jarrad Tait (56 off 42 balls), debutant Ty Watson (50 off 91) and Peter Atkins (29 off 27) the leading run scorers for the Raiders. Alex Kern, brought on to bowl the 45th and final over of the innings, took 3/1 (0.5) for Mylor, while Michael Warburton (2/20) and Todd Dellatorre (2/46) were the other multiple wicket takers. Mylor were never in the run chase as they were bundled out for just 70 inside 26 overs. Warburton (13) and Shane Maslin (12) were the only Mylor batsmen to reach double figures as Bridgewater seam bowler Anthony Jennings ripped through the Pipers lineup with 5/20 from nine overs. Watson (2/15) and Tait (2/22) rounded off a great day for the Raiders.

Ladder (after round 2)
Aldgate 12, Scott Creek Ironbank 12, Stirling 6, Bridgewater 6, Kangarilla 6, Mount Lofty 6, Mylor 0, Meadows 0.

Round 3 fixtures (home teams named first)
Kangarilla v Bridgewater

Stirling v Meadows

Aldgate v Mount Lofty

Scott Creek Ironbank v Mylor

Nairne opened their account with a thrilling 1 run victory over Macclesfield :o

Creek host Strath today (Sunday) from 11.00 am with the teams wearing coloured uniforms with a white ball. Live streamed by Bruce and the team from MFL TV. With a few social events being held on Saturday night it could be a case of which team fronts up with less hangovers to decide the result :o :o

Bridgewater made it two wins on the trot after a thrilling nine-run win in a low-scoring contest at Kangarilla yesterday during round three action in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA). The Raiders batted first with Ty Watson (22) and Luke Hoyle (19) getting their side off to a good start with a 40-run opening stand. Regular wickets fell after the opening partnership as the Raiders slumped to 5/70, before Jarrad Tait scored a quickfire 36 from 28 balls (4 x 4’s, 1 x 6). Ultimately, Bridgewater were bowled out in the 35th over for just 125. Troy Martinsen (3/19), Steve Featherstone (3/34) and Ryan Grimmond (2/26) were the leading wicket takers in a good bowling performance from Kangarilla. The Kangarilla run chase was underpinned by a patient innings from Grimmond, who made 60 from 110 balls (7 x 4’s), but he received very little support with Featherstone (11) and Kyal Walton (11) the only other batsmen to reach double figures. Despite this, ‘Kangies’ looked the likely winner at 7/115, before they lost their last 3/1 to be bowled out in the 42nd over for 116. Watson was the hero at the end for the Raiders with 3/23 (5.5 overs), while Tait completed a fine double with a match-winning 5/17 from his nine overs.

Aldgate’s perfect start to the season continued with a comfortable eight-wicket win against Mount Lofty at Aldgate Oval. The ‘Gaters’ now sit on top of the ladder with three wins from as many games. Mount Lofty won the toss and elected to bat first with Josh Healey (20) and Nick Justice (22) adding 35 runs for the first wicket. Redcaps skipper Jordan Neis-Beer (20) and Connor Milde (18) made useful contributions, while Ryan Pistola top scored with a patient 43 from 86 balls (3 x 4’s). The Redcaps were bowled out for 156, which was probably 50+ runs less than they’d hoped for. Five Aldgate bowlers took wickets with Matty Hansen (4/26) the standout. Skipper Jake Turnbull (2/25) and Shaun Atkins (2/26) were the other multiple wicket takers for the home side. The inform pair of Mitch Thomas and Josh Callaghan got Aldgate off to another good start with a partnership of 64 before Callaghan went for 17 (28 balls). Turnbull and Thomas then added 27 for the second wicket as Thomas reached his second half century in a row before being removed for 55 from 47 balls (7 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s). ‘Turbo’ continued on to make 54 not out from 58 balls (6 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s) with teenager Max Bilsborow chipping in with 16 not out as the winning runs came up in the 29th over. Matt Pistola (1/13) and Milde (1/33) were the wicket takers for Mount Lofty.

Reigning premier Stirling registered their second win of the 2023/24 campaign after a three-wicket win over Meadows at Stirling Oval. The home side won the toss and elected to field as Luke Tonkin and Rohan Reid opened the batting for the Bulldogs. This pair wasn’t separated until they’d added 127 runs in the 26th over with Tonkin going for 28 (72 balls). Reid continued on to top score with 87 from 86 balls (12 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s), his first half century of the season, but from 0/127 Meadows were dismissed for 194. Brad Louch (29) and Ryan Clarke (13) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures. Veteran Chris Shaw (4/28), Connor McFadyen (3/32) and Ned Hopgood (2/22) were the chief destroyers for the Eagles, while Pete Fryer bowled a miserly spell of 0/16 from his nine overs. The Eagles’ run chase started in a blaze of glory with 21 runs coming from the first over of the innings bowled by Louch, while the 50-run partnership between Jack Read and Raph Baker came up in just the sixth over! Louch eventually got his man as he dismissed Read for a whirlwind 46 from just 29 balls (6 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s). After the fast start, three wickets fell and it was an even contest with the home side at 3/82 as Harrison Webb joined his skipper Jack Pick at the crease. This pair ultimately put on a match-winning stand worth 83 runs for the fourth wicket with Pick making 44 (72 balls) Webb went on to top score with 48 not out (48 balls) with the winning runs coming up in the 37th over. Clarke (3/25) and Louch (2/51) were the leading wicket takers for Meadows.

Scott Creek Ironbank (SCIB) are the other undefeated team after three rounds after a tight 21-run win against Mylor at Cherry Gardens yesterday. SCIB won the toss and decided to bat first and had a number of handy partnerships with Adam Shearwood (39), Sam Hill (23) and Tom Watton (18) all contributing in the top order. For the second time this season, Aaron Thompson played the pivotal knock of the innings with 52 not out from 49 balls (4 x 4’s). It was Thompson’s second half century of the season and it helped lift his side to a healthy total of 8/186 from 45 overs. Jesse Cooper (4/35) and Ben James (2/34) were the multiple wicket takers for Mylor, while Oliver Barnes bowled an economical spell of 0/11 from his nine overs. Mylor got themselves into a winning position in the run chase as they reached 2/113 in the 25th over with contributions from Ben James (24) and Todd Dellatorre (20), but it was the wicket of Shane Maslin that turned the game in Scott Creek Ironbank’s favour. Maslin top scored with 44 from 72 balls (6 x 4’s), but his dismissal precipitated a collapse of 8/52 as Mylor were bowled out in the 40th over for 165. Five SCIB bowlers took wickets with Watton the standout with 4/28 (8), while Beau Thomas snared 2/30 (9).

Enjoyable game of cricket against Mt Barker in the A2s, with 461 runs struck and the contest decided in the penultimate over. On the back of a 2 run win against Woodside the previous week, it’s been great to feature in some competitive battles so far.

Obviously it’s a bit early to get much of a read on form lines. Ashbourne the other undefeated team and Strath the only team without a win. The results of those club’s with A Grade sides will naturally fluctuate depending on who’s available for their second team. Looking forward to playing on the Wistow hill for the first time this weekend.
