2023 Silly Season

Talk on the national game

Anyone watched the Stan doco series ‘Show me the Money 2’

Inner sanctum look at trade week from selected players and agents point of view

Pretty bloody interesting. This is focused on last year Grundy, JHF, Lobbe and a few others. Jack Bowes has been an interesting watch given the interest was more so in the #7 pick rather than Jack himself.

Happy we got the trade to work.i doubt we would have used 64 anyway. 46 seems ok.

Maybe we want to keep the PSD option open to us, you just don't know what could fall through.

Good for us.
Pick 34 and a future first rounder sounds about fair.
Potent forward line next year.
Just need another key back and we'll challenge again next year.
Hopefully Dean can stay fit and take that role.
Not sure if Murphy will play again so he's going to be really important.

How's the Gold Coast boss saying (paraphrasing) 'we stuffed up by playing him out of position, so now we will give him away'??? WTF? How about playing him IN position and getting the best of the guy. He's contracted, he doesn't desperately want to leave. That's about an odd a situation as I can recall.

Yeah agree. 28 year old....probably mutually agreed his best football is good enough but never showed it for long enough periods. Adelaide get a bloke whose not in their best 22 off their books. Melbourne get a bloke whose best football adds depth to them whilst in a premiership window so the risk is minimal from where they stand right this minute.

A win / win for both clubs based on their positions.

PORT Adelaide has confirmed it is prepared to walk both Esava Ratugolea and Brandon Zerk-Thatcher through the draft as deals for the key defenders remain at an impasse.
AFL.com.au's Inside Trading reported on Tuesday night that negotiations for the key defenders continued to be slow, and the national and pre-seasons drafts were looming as potential leverage.

With less than 36 hours remaining before the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period finishes, Power football manager Chris Davies told AFL Trade Radio all options had to be considered as the clock ticked. Geelong has rejected Port’s offer of pick No.25 for Ratugolea, while Davies says a potential swap of Zerk-Thatcher for Xavier Duursma is complicated by the fact Port’s wingman is still under contract. Ratugolea remains a priority, with Davies saying he is prepared to walk the out-of-contract Cat to the National of Pre-season Draft if a deal can’t be struck.

“Right now, we haven't been able to break the impasse with Geelong for Esava,” he said.

“If worse comes to worse and we're not able to find a deal in the next period of time, then that (taking Esava to the draft) does become a live option.

“It's something that we've got to think about with not just Esava, but maybe the other players that we're looking at as well.”

One of the “other players” Davies is referencing is Zerk-Thatcher, Essendon’s 25-year-old defender.

“He's probably in a situation where he's desperately wanting to come back to Adelaide, and he's made it clear to Essendon that he doesn't want to go back there.

“That's not because he dislikes anything that happened at Essendon. It's just that he wants to come back to Adelaide.

“If we can't find a deal … then the Pre-season Draft or the National Draft become a live option.

“We're going to have to look at every option that we've got at our disposal, and walking them through the draft is one of those.”

He's kicked 3 or more 9 times. 2 times against North. 3 times against West Coast. 1 time against Gold Coast.

He's kicked 72 goals in 50 games, of those 72 20 of them have been against North and West Coast in 9 games.

Take that out and he's kicked 52 goals in 41 games.

Look hes not going to start with Melbourne no doubt. But surely if we are purely focused on nothing more than the 2024 season we can accept he is going to be a better back up than say a pick 30-40 in what's considered a shallow draft.

Crows have never played finals in his time there so you place him in a decent side and you would think that goal per game ratio will improve somewhat.

Like i said i think both sides will be fairly happy in this one i think. BTW out of curiosity. who were the 3 other teams he kicked 3 goals against.
