Losing close friends unexpectedly.

Only saving grace being the last memories together were as amazing as they could be.

One of the great things about working in a pub was making so many wonderful friends and meeting so many people you wouldn't normally meet.
Downside is the amount of older regulars you become attached to who pass away. I've encountered this with 4 in the last year or two.
Found out this morning from his son that my favourite regular passed away.
Eric was a lovely old scottish chap who would be at the pub every day at the same time for his 2 or 3 (or more) West Ends (nothing else would do). Eric was a real character who everyone loved and was often known as Lord Eric for his standing in the pub. My wife grew to love him too, just from meeting him when she'd come in for a quick beer or two. She made sure whenever she made Yorkshire Puddings she'd make some for Eric and wrap them up for me to deliver and he would accept them like an excited kid at Christmas. Everyone loved Eric even if he did get grumpy when we moved him from sitting at the bar just after Covid lockdown, and when he had to move out of his next usual spot as happy hour was only in the front bar.
Every holiday we'd go on we'd always make sure we bought some key rings at our destinations as Eric collected key rings and hung them all up on a huge board at his home. I'll still look for keyrings when I go on holidays and will be sad when I think there's no need to get them any more.
RIP Eric.

I should point out since this is a footy forum that Eric was a mad Crows fan, didn't follow soccer at all.
If he's on their side next year from somewhere else look out!

How about men stop killing women? :(

A young female water polo coach has been found dead in a bathroom at one of Sydney’s most prestigious schools, with a manhunt now underway for another staff member who is believed to have killed her.

Lilie James, 21, suffered horrific injuries in the fatal attack at St Andrew’s Cathedral School on Wednesday evening, with NSW Police now hunting for fellow staff member Paul Thijssen who remains unaccounted for.

Too late I think, they're searching near The Gap ( famous suicide location ) as items relating to the case were found on the cliff tops.

Did Eric by chance happen to be a former publican (Franklin Hotel City)?

What a gutless piece of shit this scum was. This story has made me feel such anger, such sadness. Enough is enough. 53 women in Australia this year have died at the hands of gutless pieces of shit like this. 53. Let that sink in.

The wife and I wen to Eric's funeral today, fantastic turnout from the pubs regulars, workers and ex workers. A lone Scottish Piper escorted his coffin, so moving.

Weird part of the day was when I visited my Grandparent's memorials for the first time in 30 years before the funeral only to find some fairly fresh flowers in front of their memorial. Weird as my Dad was an only child (he passed away 8 years ago) and I'm an only child so I have no idea who put them there. They have no other living relatives that I'm aware of (they both passed in the 80s) and my great auntie who had no children passed in the 90s.
Bloody curious now as no other memorials in the area had flowers.
