It actually staggers me that you say this with an actual element of surprise!

I've never lost faith in how bad the Redbacks are.

I thought we turned the corner.
I mean we all jumped on the tram, I thought we did anyway

As usual, the real problem is the batting. Two games at Adelaide Oval and a game at Karen Rolton and none of the top 3, or our number 6 & 7, have scored a half century. Only McSweeney has earned his spot at this stage.

Hunt 88 @ 14 (16 & 2, 26 & 7, 9 & 28)
Smith 101 @ 16 (21 & 4, 11 & 33, 32 & 0)
Drew 82 @ 13 (6 & 1, 29 & 21, 0 & 25)
McSweeney 280 @ 46 (2 & 48, 64 & 100, 41 & 25)
Lehmann 170 @ 28 (115 & 10, 31 & 8, 0 & 6)
Fraser-McGurk 92 @ 23 (37 & 29, 25 & 1, DNP)
Carder 26 @ 13 (DNP, DNP, 21 & 5)
Nielsen 121 @ 20 (2 & 10, 32 & 21, 34 & 22)

There are still three more games (Gabba, WACA and then home vs VIC) before the BBL.

This weekend was the first round of Premier 2-day cricket this season, so there hasn’t been an opportunity for anyone to press for selection with the red ball at this stage. Scott scored a century and Capel 92 on the weekend, but you’d expect they’ll hope some of our batters can turn their form around soon, or it may be back to the drawing board over Christmas.

Top 3 batting is the problem

Hunt has lost all form since being named captain for a few matches
Smith I think has shown he just isn't up to it unfortunately
Drew hasn't continued last years form

None of them are supporting each other so the pressure keeps building.

JFM has shown zero intent in digging in so I think you could open with him and try and put some pressure on the bowlers to get them off their lines. Would also help Hunt with someone else taking away the scoreboard pressure. If it doesn't work then its not any different than whats happening now.

I like your idea of playing Pope and treating Manenti and McAndrew as allrounders
Dave Warner will be missed!

Pope is -100 player, he’ll go for over 100 and might snare a tail-ender, he’ll score f*** all in return.

The fairytale is over, we were all in awe in the beginning but it’s fizzled out as quick as it excited us.

Lehmann is suppose to be our captain and best player but take away his ton first up and he’s struggling big time.
We just don’t have a genuine top class shield batter

Next game starts next week v QLD at the Gabba.
Let's see what changes are made. Looks like Agar will be out and Buckingham and Doggett will be available again. I dare say they'll rush McGurk back in and I wouldn't be surprised if they gift Liam Scott another opportunity because he made a 100 on the weekend. Young Thomas Kelly, who made a 100 in the 2nd X1 a couple of weeks back, will probably be ignored again.

He is in the side simply because of his surname. terrible batsmen and cant bowl. I rank him a dirty slapper at best.

We'll continue to be a laughing stock until we fix the grade system, bread our own SA players and stop chasing second hand duds from other states.

Edit: Scott named for Glenelg so he's not in but Doggett not named so assume he's in. Kelvin Smith named for WT so he's been dropped , probably McGurk back in along with Buckingham? Kelly named for Sturt so he's not in. Bit of rain around Brisbane on the weekend and Monday so probably a Gabba greentop.

Terrible call. He’s 23 and got a stack of wickets last year. With our batsmen so poor and the luxury of McAndrew and Manenti performing well, there’s a free shot at giving him overs at Shield level and giving the side more balance. He’s only at the very beginning.

Obviously Smith dropped after some 20’s and 30’s and not going on with it. All the top 6 batsmen, besides McSweeney, should’ve been playing for their Grade team today. Put them on a flight tonight or tomorrow morning.

I thought he was older, seemed to around for a while.

I’d love for him to turn it around and prove me wrong, averages 63.

79 for the opening partnership before Carder was dismissed.
Don’t care how long it took, I’d take that anyday. Hopefully others can go on with it
