Excellent for Welsh. Gets into the afl program a year early.

I'd guess Brooksby to Henley.

Doesn’t he live in Victoria?

Dunno, wouldn’t think it would be him then if so. Fits though, old enough for retirement, won the B&F and Div3 club, where his teammate in Broadbent is playing.
Whoops, there goes another year. Whoops, there goes another pint of beer.

No different to what they did with North Adelaide's Blayne O'Loughlin this past season.

WWT develop the kid and fully expect to lose him at the end of 2024, but now he goes to a club a year early and WWT and their fans miss out on watching him, so bloody disrespectful and potentially reduces the connection he has at WWT and potentially stifles his development.

I can handle the loan scenario which has happened in the last for a small period of the season, but this makes my blood boil.

Im guessing on draft night he wears his AFC polo before he gets selected

A few other F/s prospects that could potentially go.

PA has WWT player Rome Burgoyne, NA players Oliver Francou and Louie Montgomery available.

Why wouldn't he, he's eligible as a FS for Adelaide and touted as a top 25 pick, Adelaide aren't passing on him and will likely show their intention to select him before draft night.

Wasn't Blayne 19yo at the time and NGA. A very different situation at draft time. I am not sure he was in Norths plans as a senior player.

I can’t for the life of me remember but Port did the same thing with a West Adelaide player a few years ago

The Next Gen Academy program aligns WWT, Norwood, South and West to Port.

When Port had Burgoyne "on loan" from WWT for 6 weeks I understood it to be part of the Next Gen program.

I see last night though and the end of 2021 :

Agreed if Port and Crows are basically making a commitment to drafting a F/S its best for the kids development to get them into their system ASAP.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Montgomerie will be at the Dogs, unfortunately the ones in the VFL though.
I hope this isnt a sign of the future where players think theyre a better chance to get back into the AFL system by playing VFL rather than SANFL

It's not a sign of the future, it is the current.

Have had a SANFL club Footy Manager tell me directly that this is exactly what is happening.

Jackson Hately was a combination of this reason and his partner working in Victoria, but Monty is 100% this reason.

Suspect if he doesn't get picked up in 2024 then he would likely return to SA in 2025.

Meh if they want to be top ups go for it. The VFL is shite and nothing to fear.

Weve already seen Lord, Gaspar, Murley, Coetee, Boyd and Barry etc... leave playing in the vfl to join sanfl.

If the last decade is to go by we will gain more than we lose.
