Sounds like you need to worry about things that actually impact the comp like the Sutton Derby Western Youth fiasco has. Who cares if an umpire wears shorts. We aren’t professionals. On that note, who do we think are the flag threats nearing the halfway mark of the season?

I noted that your rules allow players to wear shorts although very few do, but an umpire needs to look respectable and official and wearing shorts doesn't do it. May not affect his decision making but the look especially when the players don't do it.

I think TOF is referring to John Williams? One of the best umpires the association has IMO and like SOTY said we're not professionals so it doesn't really matter if he wears shorts or not.

All depends on how you want your league to be perceived by passers by, my thought would be that it’s like a beers and bbq social game if I seen players or umpires wearing shorts.

I’m all for looking like a cricketer at any type of level, I think I wore shorts for one game in primary school because I got a late call up while I was in grade 5 to play for the year 7 team.

Each to their own, I just think it looks tacky

i never wore shorts either.

I understand what you mean. Just something i didn't worry about. I played with people, who didn't wear gloves when they batted and a person who wore his thigh pad on the outside in section 1.

Whilst I'm a firm believer in looking the part (myself mostly), I personally couldn't care if someone wore shorts. I also couldn't care less if someone wore a singlet and thongs whilst umpiring.

Moe has learned his lesson.

I have to realise that it can't be perfect in our association.

I thought with Plympton taking out their C grade would have helped with available numbers, but obviously not this game at least.
Porties had to forfeit their 4th team in section 9 as well, and they normally have strong numbers.

Had my first experience with St. John's on the weekend. They certainly have a lot to say on the field.

So I believe the talk at the most recent ASCA delegates meeting was that Sutton Derby only had 6 available players for their game this weekend. If they didn't have a full list come this afternoon, they would be asked to forfeit.

ASCA executive is of the understanding that Sutton Derby will fold after Christmas, so all ouright results will revert to standard 6 point wins. Section 1 will then have a bye.

I feel like this decision should have been made long ago, before teams played Sutton Derby in two day cricket, and replace the bye with a side like Western Youth. The names on their team sheets week to week look more like their Section 1 sides than not.

Let's hope this is a lesson for future years to not allow clubs in to the highest section of a compeition without contingency (juniors, atleast 2 sides).
