Obviously it’s a bit early to get much of a read on form lines. Ashbourne the other undefeated team and Strath the only team without a win. The results of those club’s with A Grade sides will naturally fluctuate depending on who’s available for their second team. Looking forward to playing on the Wistow hill for the first time this weekend.

Looking forward to hosting your boys this weekend. We've had an up and down start to the season so far. Close loss to Woodside in Rnd 1, a great win against the reigning premiers Mt Barker in Rnd 2 and beaten pretty soundly by some great Nairne performances last weekend.

Kangarilla won their second game of the season yesterday following a thrilling one-wicket victory against Mylor during round four action in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) at Kangarilla. Mylor won the toss and decided to bat first with the decisive partnership of the innings coming between Tom Plant and Ben James. This pair came together at 2/35 and added 90 runs for the third wicket before James was dismissed for 36 (57 balls). Plant went on to top score with 84 from 134 balls (8 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s) as the Pipers finished on 6/174 from their 45 overs. Ryan Grimmond was the leading wicket taker for the home side with 3/41 (9). The run chase was tight throughout with ‘Kangies’ skipper Lachlan Knight (52), Grimmond (36) and Che Martinsen (28) putting their side in a good position at 2/97 with 15 overs remaining. Three quick wickets fell and at 5/117 it was anyone’s game with Ben Ryan coming to the crease. Ryan held his nerve and was still at the crease as the final over commenced with his side requiring six runs for victory. Two run-outs left the scores level with ‘Kangies’ nine wickets down before Ryan hit the last ball of the game to the boundary to see his side over the line. Ryan finished with 37 not out from 27 balls (4 x 4’s, 1 x 6). Oliver Barnes (2/32) was the leading wicket taker for Mylor, while skipper Michael Warburton bowled a miserly spell of 0/12 from his nine overs.

The giant-killing run of Scott Creek Ironbank (SCIB) has continued after they defeated reigning premier Stirling by 25 runs at Stirling Oval yesterday. The home side won the toss and sent SCIB in and the move paid early dividends with the visitors slumping to 3/23 in the ninth over. Enter the in-form Aaron Thompson who partnered up with Andy Adams in a game-changing 87-run stand for the fourth wicket before Adams departed for 48 (93 balls). Ethan Dinning (22) then added 49 for the seventh wicket as Thompson continued on his merry way, bringing up a brilliant century, before finishing with 100 not out from 93 balls (13 x 4’s, 1 x 6). Thompson has now scored 208 runs this season without being dismissed! SCIB were eventually bowled out in the 45th over for 213. Harrison Webb (2/6), Chris Shaw (2/31) and Charlie Fryer (2/44) were the multiple wicket takers for Stirling. The Eagles' run chase started well with Jack Read (18) and Raph Baker (14) adding 34 runs for the first wicket, before three quick wickets saw the reigning premier in trouble at 3/46. The Eagles needed a partnership and they duly got one as Webb and Jacob Kemp came together to resurrect the innings. This pair added 134 runs for the fourth wicket and with five overs left, Stirling sat at 4/180 and needed 34 runs to win. The 41st over of the innings, bowled by Adams, completely turned the game on its head as four wickets fell with Stirling losing their last 6/8 to be bowled out in the 44th over for 188. Webb top scored with 76 from 80 balls (9 x 4’s, 1 x 6), while Kemp finished with 52 from 71 balls (4 x 4’s). Adams (3/38) completed a fine all-round double, while Suresh Sripada (2/16) and Sam Hill (2/30) chimed in with a couple of wickets each.

Aldgate remained undefeated and on top of the ladder after securing a five-wicket win at Bridgewater yesterday. Bridgewater won the toss and elected to bat first with the trusty pair of Justin Summerill (20) and Luke Hoyle (45) adding 44 runs for the first wicket, before Jackson Hooper (24) put on 47 with Hoyle as the Raiders reached 1/91. After Shaun Atkins (2/26) removed Hoyle, Jack Woollard (2/41) made a double strike to have Aldgate on top with the home side at 4/99. Enter Aldgate skipper Jake Turnbull who completely turned the game in his side's favour with a spell of 6/11 from 8.5 overs including a hat trick to end the innings! After a promising start, Bridgewater lost their last 9/46 to be bowled out for 137 in the 39th over. Chris Ashby (21) was the other Bridgewater batsman to pass 20. Aldgate’s run chase didn’t start well with the in-form Josh Callaghan out first ball of the innings. Mitch Thomas (27) and James Anthony (16) steadied the ship, but at 5/66, the ‘Gaters’ were in strife. Playing-coach Atkins joined teenager Max Bilsborow at the crease and proceeded to smash an unbeaten 50 from just 32 balls. His innings included five boundaries and three ‘maximums’. Bilsborow contributed an important 26 not out (2 x 4’s, 1 x 6) as the winning runs came up in the 37th over. Jarrad Tait (2/16) and Summerill (2/31) were the most successful Bridgewater bowlers.

Mount Lofty won their second game of the season and at the same time consigned Meadows to a 0-4 start to the season. The Redcaps batted first and posted a competitive total of 5/204 from their 45 overs. Josh Mitchell (37), Nick Justice (32) and Ryan Pistola (31) all made useful contributions, but it was left to skipper Jordan Neis-Beer to play the critical innings for his side. Neis-Beer came in at 1/5 and made a patient 84 from 127 balls (4 x 4’s). Brad Louch (2/35) was the leading wicket taker for Meadows. The Bulldogs acquitted themselves well in the first half of the run chase as they reached 3/89 in the 22nd over. Mitchell (1/19) claimed the big wicket of Rohan Reid for 42 (56 balls) and from then on it was all Mount Lofty as Meadows lost 7/53 to be bowled out for 142. Louch (26) and Chad Dawe (21) also made useful contributions for Meadows. Will Healey (3/26), Peter Giannes (3/50) and Connor Milde (2/15) were the leading wicket takers for Mount Lofty.

Ladder (after round 4)
Aldgate 24, Scott Creek Ironbank 24, Stirling 12, Bridgewater 12, Kangarilla 12, Mount Lofty 12, Mylor 0, Meadows 0.

Mylor won their first game of the season after defeating previously unbeaten Aldgate by six wickets during round five action in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) at Aldgate Oval yesterday. Mylor won the toss and decided to bowl first and the move paid off early, with Aldgate in trouble at 2/11 in the 9th over. Mylor opening bowler Ben James claimed both wickets on his way to fine figures of 2/19 (9). Max Bilborow (12) and Jake Turnbull steadied the ship with a 32-run stand, then Shaun Atkins and Turnbull added 60 for the fourth wicket, before Turnbull departed for 37 (92 balls). Atkins continued on to top score with a hard-hitting 94 not out from 71 balls (9 x 4’s, 6 x 6’s), while Jack Woollard smashed 31 from just 13 balls (6 x 4’s, 1 x 6) as Aldgate posted 9/199 from their 45 overs. Peter Johns (2/51) was the other multiple wicket taker for Mylor. The visitors got off to a flier in the run chase with openers Tom Plant and Liam Tansell putting on 69 from just 50 balls before Tansell was dismissed for a quickfire 42 from 23 balls (4 x 4’s, 4 x 6’s). Alex Kern (29) added 55 runs with Plant and then James (32) put on 56 for the fourth wicket with Plant as Mylor reached 3/180. Plant guided Mylor home with 20 balls to spare, finishing with 90 not out from 127 balls (11 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s). Turnbull (2/50) was the leading wicket taker for Aldgate.

Meadows also won their first game for 2023/24 with a tight three-wicket win at home against Bridgewater. The Raiders batted first and were in all sorts of trouble early as they crashed to 5/30 in the 13th over. Peter Atkins (24) joined Jarrad Tait in a rescue mission as this pair added 85 runs for the sixth wicket before Tait went for 68 from 70 balls (8 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s). Bridgewater eventually were bowled out in the 45th over for 151. All six Meadows bowlers claimed wickets with Will Bevan-Giles (3/19), Rohan Reid (2/21) and Zack Robertson (2/23) leading the way. The Meadows run chase was dominated by Rohan Reid as he compiled a match-winning innings of 84 not out from 126 balls (6 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s) to see the Bulldogs home. There were some tense moments as Meadows slipped to 5/97 to give the Raiders a whiff of victory. Veteran Chad Dawe (21) added 37 runs for the sixth wicket with his skipper and despite losing their seventh wicket still 18 runs short of victory, Meadows completed the victory with nine balls to spare. Tait completed an excellent all-round game with the fine figures of 4/10 from his nine overs.

Mount Lofty won their third game of the season with a tight two-wicket victory at Stirling. The Eagles batted first with their innings underpinned by acting captain Jack Read who top scored with 77 from 86 balls (6 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s). He was well supported by Sean McCullum (32) and Jacob Kemp (27 not out) as Stirling posted a competitive 6/192 from their 45 overs. Josh Healey was the unlikely hero with the ball for the Redcaps with the excellent return of 4/35 from his nine overs. Max Hawke (2/37) was the other wicket taker for the visitors. Josh Healey continued his good game as he opened the batting with 45 from 63 balls, while Josh Mitchell hit a quickfire 27 from 26 balls, but at 5/101, Stirling were slight favourites to pull off the victory. Tim Noble (25) joined Connor Milde (34) in a decisive partnership for the Redcaps as this pair added 72 runs for the sixth wicket to bring their side within sight of victory. Stirling fought back with three quick wickets and at 8/177, Mount Lofty needed 16 runs from 19 balls. Peter Giannes (10 not out) and Matt Pistola (6 not out) held their nerve, taking 13 runs from the 44th over to get their side home with seven balls to spare. Kemp (2/10) and Ezekiel Hemming (2/21) were the leading wicket takers for Stirling.

Kangarilla won their second game in a row and are up to third spot on the HCA ladder following their 53-run win over the previously unbeaten Scott Creek Ironbank (SCIB) at Cherry Gardens yesterday. ‘Kangies’ batted first with Steve Featherstone (14) and Ryan Grimmond (25) adding 39 runs for the first wicket. After this promising start, wickets fell regularly as Kangarilla slipped to 6/78 and a score of under 100 looked a possibility. Enter Michael White who whacked 40 from just 18 balls to give the innings some much needed impetus. White’s brief innings included four boundaries and three maximums as Kangarilla were bowled out for 151 in the 40th over. Suresh Sripada (3/35), Sam Hill (2/14), Thomas Watton (2/17) and Beau Thomas (2/25) were the multiple wicket takers for SCIB. The home side were in all sorts of trouble early in the run chase as they slumped to 3/10 with Ben Evans removing Watton, Darcy Campbell and Hill without scoring. The in-form Aaron Thompson joined his skipper Adam Shearwood and this pair set about resurrecting the innings through a 48-run union for the fourth wicket. In his final over, Evans claimed the key wicket of Thompson for 20 (30 balls) to finish with the excellent figures of 4/26 (9). Shearwood battled hard to top score with 35 (75 balls), but ultimately his side were bowled out for just 98 in the 28th over. Featherstone (2/9) and Baxter Knuckey (2/10) were the other multiple wicket takers for Kangarilla.

As you know I saw the Lofty vs Meadows game.

Meadows are still a reasonably good team, just perhaps a few too many "older" blokes in their team. Wouldn't write them off just yet.

1 complete round done for A Grade in A&EHCA and unsurprisingly the Creeks and Lobethal have dominated the comp so far with Creeks undefeated and Lobethal with just the narrow loss to the Creeks.
Strath are looking solid in 3rd spot
Macclefield got off to a flier winning their 1st 3 matches but have fallen in a hole since losing 4 on the trot to drop to 5th
How costly will their controversial 1 run loss to Nairne be come the end of the minor round?
Nairne after a slow start to the season (was a tough draw playing the 3 top sides 1st up) have won their last 4 to sit in 4th spot

Hard to see Woodside making finals from here in 6th with just the 2 wins. They're certainly competitive but just don't have the depth of talent to trouble the top teams.
Hahndorf with a young team are struggling to pick up wins but they're setting themselves up for the future
Bremer Callington with the loss of a few key players from last season are really struggling and are winless whilst copping some real hidings which isn't good for the comp.

Round 8

Maccy host Hahndorf and the Redbacks simply need to win this and should but theirs no guarantees in this game.

Creeks should coast to a win at Callington against the venomless Cobras

Strath came from the clouds to beat Woodside in round 1 and will look to consolodate 3rd spot with a win here. If Woodside have any hope in making a challenge for the finals it starts here but Strath look too good.

Nairne got hammered by Lobey in Round 1but have gained some confidence in the last month. Hard to see them upsetting Lobey but will be a good test to see how much they have improved

Scott Creek Ironbank has gone a game clear on top of the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) ladder following a thrilling eight-run win against Mt Lofty at Cherry Gardens on Saturday. SCIB batted first with skipper Adam Shearwood and Thomas Watton (26) adding 59 runs for the first wicket. Shearwood was joined by veteran Andy Adams and this pair put together an innings-defining stand of 135 before Adams departed for 55 from 75 balls (2 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s). Shearwood continued on to make a fine 104 from 110 balls (12 x 4’s). Shearwood now has 294 runs at 49.00 to be the leading run scorer in ‘A’ grade ranks in the HCA. SCIB were eventually bowled out for 235 off the last ball of the innings. Connor Milde (3/36) and Peter Giannes (2/41) were the multiple wicket takers for the Redcaps. Mt Lofty got off to a great start with Josh Mitchell hitting a quickfire 47 from 29 balls (8 x 4’s, 1 x 6). Skipper Jordan Neis-Beer made 38 (57 balls), but when he was dismissed, the visitors slipped to 6/128 and the game appeared to be Scott Creek Ironbank’s for the taking. Tim Noble and Giannes had other ideas as they put on 38 runs for the seventh wicket before Giannes went for 22 from 23 balls. Noble continued on to top score with 58 (71 balls), but ultimately the Redcaps were bowled out for 227 in the final over. Ben Thomas (3/29) and Suresh Sripada (2/45) were the leading wicket takers for the home side.

Mylor won their second game in a row with a comfortable six-wicket win at Meadows on Saturday. Mylor won the toss and sent the home side into bat and the Bulldogs finished their 45 overs on 8/159. Meadows skipper Rohan Reid led the way once again with 57 (95 balls), while Haydn Reid (22) and Brad Dawe (21) made useful contributions. Oliver Barnes (2/29) and Thomas Jensen (2/34) were the multiple wicket takers for the visitors, while there were three run outs. Mylor’s run chase got off to a fast start with Tom Plant (55 off 49 balls) and Liam Tansell (41 off 28) adding 92 for the first wicket. Ben James contributed 35 not out (57 balls) as Mylor brought up the win in the 37th over. Will Bevan-Giles (3/61) and Chad Dawe (1/45) were the wicket takers for the Bulldogs.

Kangarilla won their third game in a row with a low-scoring 26-run home victory over Aldgate. The Gaters won the toss and elected to bowl and the move seemed a good one as ‘Kangies’ struggled their way to 8/126 from their 45 overs. Che Martinsen was the top scorer for the home side with 37 from 70 balls (1 x 4, 1 x 6). Matt Hansen (2/21) and Jack Woollard (2/27) were the major wicket takers for Aldgate. The Gaters were soon in trouble in the run chase as they slumped to 6/31. Skipper Jake Turnbull (28) and James Anthony (34 not out) gave them some hope, but ultimately the visitors came up short at 9/100. Martinsen completed a fine game with the restrictive figures of 3/10 (9) and he was well supported by Ben Evans (3/17) and Ryan Grimmond (2/22).

Reigning premiers Stirling won their third game of the season to move inside the top-four after a six-wicket win over Bridgewater. The Raiders batted first and posted a competitive total of 2/198 from their 45 overs. Ty Watson batted through the innings, finishing on 86 not out from 122 balls (9 x 4’s) and he was well supported by opening partner Justin Summerill (43) and Jackson Hooper (33). Jack Read (1/26) and Jack Pick (1/51) were the wicket takers for the Eagles. Read once again got Stirling off to a flier in the run chase with a hard-hitting 52 from just 25 balls (7 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s). Sean McCullum (56 off 62) and Harrison Webb (39 not out from 49) saw their side over the line with almost 10 overs to spare.

Ladder (after round 6)

Kangarilla has moved up to second place on the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) ladder after winning their fourth game in a row with a 23-run win at Meadows during round seven action yesterday. Kangarilla batted first and posted 4/154 from their 45 overs. Skipper Lachlan Knight (49), Che Martinsen (32) and Steve Featherstone (27) led the way with the bat for ‘Kangies’. Zack Robertson (2/15), Rohan Reid (1/34) and David Bates (1/44) were the wicket takers for the Bulldogs. Meadows got themselves into a good position at 2/66 after 17 overs, before Che Martinsen claimed the vital wickets of Oscar Tydeman followed by Rohan Reid as Meadows lost their last 8/65 to be bowled out for 131 in the 39th over. Rohan Reid top scored for Meadows with 45 (55 balls), while brother Haydn was the last man out for 32 (74 balls). Che Martinsen finished with the excellent figures of 3/18 (7) and he was well supported by Featherstone with 3/26 from five overs.

Aldgate moved back to the top of the ladder with a hard-fought 15-run win against Scott Creek Ironbank (SCIB) at Cherry Gardens yesterday. Aldgate batted first with their innings underpinned by an 86-run fourth wicket partnership between Mitch Thomas and Shaun Atkins. Atkins made 40 from 54 balls (2 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s), while Thomas top scored with 75 from 118 balls (6 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s) as the Gaters put up 9/182 from their 45 overs. Having bowled only six overs in ‘A’ grade this season, Ethan Dinning secured the amazing figures of 7/30 from nine overs for SCIB. The home side were under early pressure in the run chase as they slumped to 5/67 with left-armer Matty Hansen doing most of the damage with 3/38 (9). Dinning continued his good day with 23 (24 balls), while Ben Thomas made 24 not out (27 balls) in a 40-run stand with the in-form Aaron Thompson. Thompson continued his excellent season, top scoring with 77 not out from 105 balls (4 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s), but ultimately his side came up short finishing on 7/167. Other wicket takers for Aldgate included Jack Woollard (2/43), Atkins (1/20) and Jake Turnbull (1/24).

Another clean hitting display from Jack Read has fired Stirling to a comprehensive 176-run win at home against Mylor. Read smashed 90 from 69 balls (6 x 4’s, 4 x 6’s) and added 103 for the first wicket with Sean McCullum (38). Read and Jack Pick then put on 66 runs for the second wicket with Pick making 59 from 70 balls (6 x 4’s, 1 x 6). Connor McFadyen (27), Harrison Webb (21) and Pete Fryer (17 not out) made handy contributions as the Eagles finished with an imposing score of 5/259 from their 45 overs. Peter Johns (2/31) was the only multiple wicket taker for Mylor. The visitors were never in the run chase as they bowled out for just 83 inside 19 overs. Todd Dellatorre (34) and Ben James (15 not out) were the only Mylor batsmen to reach double figures. Five Stirling bowlers took wickets with Read (3/20), Pete Fryer (2/2) and McFadyen (2/27) leading the way.

Mount Lofty won their fourth game of 2023/24 with a 35-run win against Bridgewater in a high scoring contest at Heathfield Oval yesterday. The Raiders got off to a good start, taking two early wickets as Mount Lofty slipped to 2/25. Redcaps skipper Jordan Neis-Beer was joined by Josh Mitchell and this pair added 116 runs for the third wicket before Mitchell was dismissed for 79 from 56 balls. Mitchell’s innings included 10 boundaries and three sixes. Leith Dawes then joined Neis-Beer to add 115 runs for the fourth wicket as Mount Lofty posted 3/256. Dawes finished with 47 not out (48 balls), while Neis-Beer top scored with 97 not out (140 balls). Anthony Jennings (1/26) and Liam Risson (1/43) were the wicket takers for Bridgewater. Ty Watson (38), Luke Hoyle (27) and Jarrad Tait (22) made handy contributions for Bridgewater, but at 4/97 the game was Mount Lofty’s for the taking. Raiders skipper Justin Summerill joined Peter Atkins to put on 89 runs for the fifth wicket as the visitors reached 4/186 and an upset victory was a chance. Enter Connor Milde (4/40), who took three wickets in two overs to quash any chance the Raiders had. Atkins made 38 (48 balls), while Summerill top scored with 68 not out from 69 balls (5 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s) with Bridgewater finishing on 9/221.

Ladder (after round 7)

Langhorne Creek lost their 1st Minor Round game since Jan 7th 2022 by going down in shock circumstances to the previously winless Bremer / Callington
Cally who have been pretty much noncompetitive in the 1st 7 rounds welcomed back Prospect A Grade cricketers in Fitzgerald and Howie but the Creeks also had Clements coming in, all a result of abandoned matches in Premier League. Losing the toss for a 7th straight week the Creeks were sent in on a seam friendly pitch at Cally and struggled to get any momentum to be dismissed doe 112 off 41 overs. In a nailbiting finish, the Creeks nemesis Graydon Brand with 45* steered the Cobras home by 1 wicket to secure one of the biggest upsets in many a year.
Other games saw Maccy snap their losing streak by obliterating Hahndorf by 10 wickets to retake 4th spot
Strath consolidated 3rd spot by trouncing Woodside who need to start looking to next year already.
Whilst Lobey regained top spot with a 30 run win over Nairne in a high scoring encounter.

Meadows won their second game of the season after knocking top-of-the-ladder Aldgate off their perch during round eight action in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) at Meadows on Saturday. The game was reduced to a 35-over per side contest with Aldgate batting first and the Gaters got off to a solid start with Josh Callaghan (31) and Mitch Thomas (19) adding 50 runs for the first wicket. After this good start, the wheels fell off as the visitors lost regular wickets to slip to a precarious 7/93. Luke Smet (26) and James Anthony (18) helped lift their side to a total of 125 before being bowled out in the final over. Zack Robertson (3/13) and Callan Blackwell (2/24) were the multiple wicket takers for Meadows. Luke Tonkin and Rohan Reid put paid to any chance of victory for Aldgate as they put on a 100-run stand for the first wicket before Tonkin departed for 30 (58 balls). Reid went on to top score with 81 off 63 balls (14 x 4’s, 1 x 6) as the Bulldogs knocked off the target with eight wickets and more than 10 overs to spare. Jack Woollard (1/28) and Mitch Wise (1/35) were the wicket takers for Aldgate.

Kangarilla won their fifth game in a row and have moved to the top of the HCA ladder after a comfortable six-wicket win at home against Stirling. Stirling, with seven changes from the previous week, batted first and struggled their way to 9/130 from their 45 overs. Connor McFadyen top scored for the Eagles with 41 (75 balls), while Wil Scherer made 24 (62 balls). Che Martinsen (3/31) and Ben Evans (3/32) were the leading wicket takers for Kangarilla. Kangarilla started steadily in the run chase with Steve Featherstone (25) and Joel Stidston (11) putting on 45 for the first wicket. Skipper Lachlan Knight (35 not out) and Michael White (31) saw their side to victory with 31 balls to spare. Sam Johnson (2/23) McFadyen (1/27) and Scherer (1/11) were the wicket takers for Stirling.

Mylor won their third game in four weeks after a six-wicket win against Mount Lofty at Cherry Gardens. The game was reduced to 35 overs per side with the Redcaps batting first. Mount Lofty had plenty of batsmen get starts including Josh Mitchell (22), Jordan Neis-Beer (22), Tim Noble (20 not out) and Nick Justice (19), but none of them went on to post a big score as the Redcaps were bowled out in the 33rd over for 134. Oliver Barnes was the leading wicket taker for Mylor with figures of 3/26 (6.3) and he was well supported by skipper Michael Warburton (2/15) and Tom Plant (2/23). The Pipers were relatively untroubled in the run chase with the key partnership coming between Tom Plant and Shane Maslin. This pair added 80 runs for the third wicket with Plant making 46 (96 balls), while Maslin finished with 43 not out (48 balls) with the winning runs coming up with 21 balls to spare. Josh Healey (2/9) and Mitchell (2/27) were the leading wicket takers for Mount Lofty.

Scott Creek Ironbank (SCIB) won their sixth game of the season with a hard-fought three-wicket win at Bridgewater against the Raiders. The game was also reduced to 35 overs with Bridgewater batting first. The Raiders were soon in big trouble as they slumped to 6/28 with SCIB opening bowler Ben McGowan winding back the clock as he snared 5/18 from his seven-over spell. Jarrad Tait (29 not out) and skipper Justin Summerill (22) added 46 runs for the seventh wicket, while Brent Sutcliffe (23 not out) and Anthony Jennings (20) helped the tail wag to lift the total to 9/122. Scott Creek Ironbank were also in trouble early in the run chase at 4/33 before veteran Andy Adams and Jarrod Thompson came together to put on 73 runs for the fifth wicket. Adams went on to top score with 56 (7 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s), while Thompson made 28 not out (1 x 6, 1 x 4) as the winning runs came up with 12 balls to spare. Jennings (2/4), Peter Atkins (2/21) and Summerill (2/30) were the leading wicket takers for Bridgewater.

Ladder (after round 8)

Kangarilla 36, Scott Creek Ironbank 36, Aldgate 30, Stirling 24, Mt Lofty 24, Mylor 18, Bridgewater 12, Meadows 12.

Pretty crazy season. Scibs and Kangy would probably have been predicted for bottom 2 at the start of the season but are the current top 2. Bridgey been a bit disappointing considering picking up some key pieces. Meadows are finally in decline but Rohan is still incredible just not much help anymore. Aldgate and Stirling still probably the best 2 if full strength still, Lofty without Carts lack a bit if bowling depth and Mylor with Plant are very strong but without not so much. Will be a fascinating second part of the season.

Pretty good summary Batman. Upsets each & every week. One thing is for sure, if you have a few regulars out of your team, you are most likely loosing the game.

A Dylan Brown masterclass has lifted Meadows to their third win of the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) season during round 10 action at Meadows on Saturday. The former Uraidla star smashed 150 from 133 balls as the Bulldogs accounted for reigning premier Stirling by 26 runs. Brown’s innings included 12 boundaries and five ‘maximums’. Rohan Reid (49) and Oscar Tydeman (35) helped lift the Bulldogs to an imposing 4/265 from their 45 overs. Jack Pick (1/30), Chris Shaw (1/35) and Pete Fryer (1/44) were the wicket takers for the Eagles. Charlie Fryer and Connor McFadyen got the Eagles off to an excellent start with a 134-run stand for the first wicket before Fryer was dismissed for 52 (85 balls) in the 27th over. McFadyen went on to top score with 77 (76 balls), while Pete Fryer (30) and Raph Baker (24 not out) battled hard as Stirling finished on a respectable 7/239. Brad Louch (3/49), David Bates (2/37) and Rohan Reid (2/43) were the leading wicket takers for Meadows.

Mount Lofty moved up to third spot on the ladder after a comprehensive 113-run win over Aldgate at Heathfield Oval. The Redcaps batted first with Nick Justice (51), Jordan Neis-Beer (48) and Josh Mitchell (39) leading their side to a competitive total of 6/192 from their 45 overs. Matty Hansen (2/31) and Jake Turnbull (2/40) were the multiple wicket takers for Aldgate. The Gaters were never in the run chase as they slumped to 3/18 in the 11th over. Will Quigley-Smith (21), Luke Smet (14) and Jack Woollard (11) were the only Aldgate batsmen to reach double figures as the visitors were rolled for just 79 in the 32nd over. Left-armer Will Healey was the pick of the Mount Lofty bowlers with the excellent figures of 4/12 (9), while Peter Giannes took 2/14 (4.3).

Bridgewater won their third game of the season with a comprehensive nine-wicket victory against Kangarilla at Bridgewater Oval. Kangarilla batted first and struggled throughout their innings as they were restricted to 9/134 from their 45 overs. Opening batsman Joel Stidston carried his bat through the innings to top score with 56 not out (120 balls) for ‘Kangies’. Five Raiders bowlers took wickets with Anthony Jennings (2/16) and Ty Watson (2/37) claiming two wickets each. The Raiders were untroubled in the run chase as veteran Luke Hoyle and Watson added 114 for the first wicket before Hoyle was dismissed for 67 from 70 balls (5 x 4’s, 4 x 6’s). Watson went on to score 50 not out (95 balls) as the winning runs came up with more than 15 overs spare. Lachlan Knight (1/17) was the sole wicket taker for Kangarilla.

Mylor won their fourth game of the season to sit just six points outside the top-four after a three-wicket win against Scott Creek Ironbank (SCIB) at Mylor Oval. It was the first home game of the season for the Pipers after extensive work at the ground, including a picket fence and new drainage. SCIB won the toss and decided to bat first and it was a frustrating innings with many players getting starts but not going on with it. Daniel Desengo (29), Sam Hill (25), Jarrod Thompson (25) and Ethan Dinning (20) were the leading run scorers as SCIB put up 9/167 from their 45 overs. All six Mylor bowlers picked up wickets with Peter Johns taking 3/38 (9). Ben James (40) and Nic Wilson (27) got Mylor into a good position at 3/79 before three wickets fell to leave the game on an even keel with the home side on 6/110, still 58 runs from victory. Veteran Craig Fielke (16 not out) was joined by Tony Gunn in a crucial partnership worth 56 runs for the seventh wicket before Gunn departed for 31. Mylor had done enough as they won with 28 balls to spare. Desengo (2/32) was the only multiple wicket taker for Scott Creek Ironbank.

Ladder (after round 10)
Kangarilla 39, Scott Creek Ironbank 39, Mt Lofty 33, Aldgate 33, Stirling 27, Mylor 27, Bridgewater 21, Meadows 21.

Round 11 fixtures (home teams named first - 6/1/24)

Looking forward to hosting your boys this weekend. We've had an up and down start to the season so far. Close loss to Woodside in Rnd 1, a great win against the reigning premiers Mt Barker in Rnd 2 and beaten pretty soundly by some great Nairne performances last weekend.

Continues to be an unpredictable season in the A2s Barkeroo. We've jumped back into top spot but don’t feel we’ve played particularly well since our trip to Wistow hill earlier in the season. Your Echindas have certainly found some form to move up into 2nd. Nairne were probably the most well-rounded side we’ve come across so far (although dropping 6-7 catches that day didn’t help our cause). Mt Barker’s line-up seems to fluctuate week to week, and not many from their premiership team appear to be consistently playing.

Woodside are steady enough, but perhaps lacking a few match-winners currently. Lobethal trounced us on their large home deck on the back of their spinners and a very clean catching effort. We've had a couple of comfortable wins against Strath, who are probably better suited to the turf decks, while we missed out on playing Echunga and Ashbourne. Wont get to play the Bulls this season unless it’s in a final.

Yeah apart from Echunga it's a pretty even Grade and anyone of those teams could make finals. We've been on a really good run of late and we're lucky enough to get a good win in against Ashbourne on one of the weeks where other games were washed out.
Our clubs going really well at the moment A2s 2nd, Cs 1st, U14s and U16s Top. Looking forward to the T20s after the Xmas break as well.

A&EHCA 7 Rounds to go
Lobey and Creek with just the 1 loss each sit atop the A Grade table with their Rd 12 clash set to potentially determine the Minor Premiership.
Creek beat Lobey in their previous clash but then had the SHOCK loss to Bremer / Callington to see them sit in 2nd spot 1/2 a win behind courtesy of 2 wash outs compared to Lobeys 1.
If Lobey win Top spot is all but wrapped up .
Lobey has done it easy all season apart from the 1 loss and has used a lot of games to experiment with their batting and and to a lesser extent their bowling order in an effort to give everyone a go as many games have been lopsided.
Creeks on the other hand have been their usual self with a revolving door at the selection table which has potential to be their undoing yet again heading into finals as they struggle to ever have a settled line up.
Strath Nairne and Macclesfield sit 3rd 4th and 5th with not much between them tho Maccy who would have entered the season with the expectation of playing finals have lost their mojo after a great start and unless they can take a few scalps above them they seemed destined to miss out. Making it hard for them is they play Strath, Creek and Lobey their next 3 games
Strath had a chance last round to put some pressure on the Creeks in 2nd spot but blew the opportunity with their ever familiar middle order collapse against the Creeks when they were well on top to lose by 9 runs. A win over Maccy in Rd 12 should cement their finals participation but anything can happen as we've seen.
Nairne playing the bottom 3 teams 1st up after the Christmas break should cement their Finals ticket
Woodside, Hahndorf and Bremer / Cally are done as far as finals chances go but are still capable of springing a surprise or 2 on their day

The Revamped T20 comp has started for Div 1 with Div 2 to commence shortly.
The surprise of Rd 1 in Div 1 was Bremer / Cally again providing a HUGE upset by downing the Creeks who have dominated the T20 comp for the past decade. The whole comp seems to be a bit of a lottery given the access to marquee players ( Have No Idea how this benefits the comp allowing outside players taking the spot of a local :? ) and teams from outside Associations being a bit of an unkown ??

Scott Creek Ironbank (SCIB) moved a game clear on top of the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) ladder after defeating Kangarilla by 70 runs during round 12 action at Kangarilla on Saturday. SCIB won the toss and batted first and they were in all sorts of trouble early at 3/22 before Tom Watton and Aaron Thompson came together. This pair added 52 runs for the fourth wicket before Watton was dismissed for 28 (45 balls). Thompson continued on to top score with 59 not out (104 balls) as the visitors posted 9/144 from their 45 overs. Ben Evans was the standout bowler for ‘Kangies’ with figures of 4/21 (9), while Steve Featherstone (2/15) and Jack Evans (2/28) chipped in with a couple of wickets each. Kangarilla’s run chase was a disaster from the start as they slumped to 6/17 before eventually being bowled out for 74 in the 38th over with skipper Lachlan Knight playing a lone hand with 45 from 118 balls. Scott Creek Ironbank’s bowlers did a great job, bowling 12 maidens, as Beau Thomas took the honours picking up 5/9 (7.1 overs). He was well supported by Daniel Desengo (3/21) and Ben McGowan (2/6). It has been an amazing turnaround in fortunes for SCIB who have already won three more games than they did in the entire 2022/23 campaign.

Meadows moved within one win of the top-four following a comprehensive nine-wicket win at Bridgewater. The Raiders batted first with veteran Luke Hoyle top scoring with 49 from 61 balls (4 x 4’s, 3 x 6’s), while Ty Watson (29) and Will Fearnhead (21) made useful contributions. Meadows skipper Rohan Reid was the leading wicket taker for the Bulldogs snaring 4/34 (9). Zack Robertson (2/29) and Will Bevan-Giles (2/38) were the other multiple wicket takers. Meadows got off to an excellent start in the run chase with Luke Tonkin and Dylan Brown putting on 97 runs for the first wicket before Brown went for 57 from 61 balls (4 x 4’s, 4 x 6’s). Tonkin was joined by Rohan Reid as the winning runs were knocked off in the 36th over. Tonkin top scored with 60 not out (112 balls), while Reid made 41 not out (41 balls). Jarrad Tait (1/29) was the sole wicket taker for Bridgewater.

Mt Lofty moved up to second spot on the HCA ladder after a comfortable seven-wicket win against Stirling at Heathfield Oval. Stirling batted first and it was hard work as the Eagles were bowled out for 144 in the 40th over. Pete Fryer (26 not out), Connor McFadyen (25), Jack Pick (19) and Jack Read (18) were the leading run scorers for the Eagles. Redcaps fast bowler Adam Carthew, having his first bowl for the season coming back from injury, showed his class as he snared 3/13 (8). Connor Milde (2/19) and Max Hawke (2/36) were the other multiple wicket takers. Mt Lofty opener Josh Healey made his highest score of the season with a boundary laden 52 from 47 balls (9 x 4’s). Josh Mitchell continued his consistent season with a hard-hitting 43 from just 32 balls. His innings included three boundaries and another three ‘maximums’. Redcaps skipper Jordan Neis-Beer contributed a steady 27 not out (86 balls) as the winning runs came up in the 29th over. Ned Hopgood (1/18), Read (1/23) and McFadyen (1/38) were the wicket takers for Stirling.

Mylor continued their good run of form with a 34-run win at home against Aldgate. Aldgate looked to have the game well within their keeping as they reached 2/102 in pursuit of Mylor’s total of 160, before a collapse of 8/24 saw the Gaters rolled for 126. Earlier Mylor had battled their way to their total of 160 with Nic Wilson (39), Adrian Gaunt (24) and Liam Tansell (20) the leading contributors. The Aldgate attack was led by Jack Woollard who picked up 4/29 (9). Shaun Atkins (3/36) and Matt Hansen (2/30) were the other wicket takers for the visitors. James Anthony (36), Atkins (31) and Mitch Thomas (20) got Aldgate into a winning position before an inspired bowling spell from Tom Plant, plus three run outs, put paid to the Gaters. Plant snared 5/9 from 6.1 overs to be the hero for the Pipers as Aldgate were bowled out in the 42nd over. Michael Warburton (1/24) and Joel Durnford (1/31) were the other wicket takers for Mylor.

Aldgate has fought back from a seemingly hopeless position to defeat Kangarilla by two wickets during round 13 action in the Hills Cricket Association (HCA) at Aldgate yesterday. The Gaters slumped to 8/90 in pursuit of Kangarilla’s 9/159, and all seemed lost for the home side as Henry Brasher joined Josh Callaghan at the crease. This pair put on a match-winning ninth-wicket stand worth 73 runs, with the winning runs coming up via back-to-back sixes from Callaghan in the 40th over. Callaghan finished with 75 not out from 81 balls (6 x 4’s, 6 x 6’s), while Brasher made 13 not out. Jack Evans with 4/31 (9) was the pick of the ‘Kangies’ bowlers. Earlier, Kangarilla battled their way through to 9/159 from their 45 overs with Joel Stidston (30), Jono Makai (25) and Ben Evans (22) the leading run scorers. Jake Turnbull (2/20), Henry Brasher (2/31) and Matt Hansen (2/45) were the multiple wicket takers for Aldgate.

Mount Lofty went to the top of the HCA ladder following their four-wicket win against Scott Creek Ironbank (SCIB) at Heathfield Oval. SCIB won the toss and elected to bat first but they struggled throughout their innings before eventually being bowled out in the 40th over for 117. Veteran Andy Adams (22) was the only batsman to pass 20 for the visitors, while extras (24) was the highest score. Connor Milde (3/28) was the leading wicket taker for the Redcaps, while Max Hawke chipped in with 2/18 (8). Josh Healey (28) and Nick Justice (23) added 56 runs for the first wicket as Mount Lofty commenced their run chase. SCIB hit back through Ben Thomas (2/9) and Beau Thomas (2/22) as the Redcaps stumbled to 6/94, however Tim Noble (26 not out) and Brad Hutton steadied the innings with a 25-run seventh-wicket stand to see their side over the line in the 35th over.

Stirling kept their finals hopes alive with a comfortable seven-wicket victory at home against Bridgewater. Veteran Eagles fast bowler Chris Shaw was the star of the show for the reigning premiers with figures of 5/37 (7) as the Raiders were bowled out for 120. Luke Hoyle top scored with 41 (69 balls), while Justin Summerill made 26 (42 balls). Charlie Fryer (2/22) was the other multiple wicket taker for Stirling. Jack Read got the Eagles off to a good start with 31 (41 balls), while Sean McCullum (41 not out) and Harrison Webb (31 not out) put on an undefeated stand of 74 for the fourth wicket to see the Eagles over the line in the 26th over.

Mylor are well and truly in the finals hunt after an excellent six-wicket win at Meadows yesterday. The home side batted first with a 139-run opening stand between Luke Tonkin (87 from 142) and Dylan Brown (68 from 94) helping the Bulldogs to a good total of 4/204 from their 45 overs. Tom Plant with 3/24 (8) was the pick of the Pipers’ bowlers. Mylor were in early trouble at 3/51 as Ben James joined Plant at the crease. This pair put on a 136-run stand for the fourth wicket before James was dismissed for a fine 79 from 76 balls (3 x 4’s, 5 x 6’s). Plant continued on to top score with 86 not out from 132 balls (6 x 4’s, 2 x 6’s) as he brought up the winning runs with a six in the 44th over. Will Bevan-Giles (2/39) was the leading wicket taker for Meadows.
