Pathetic by the ICC
While I think it's shit they charged him he did breach their regulations.
https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/usma ... st-1413824
"Usman Khawaja has been charged for breaching Clause F of the Clothing and Equipment Regulations," an ICC spokesperson told ESPNcricinfo. "Usman displayed a personal message (arm band) during the first Test Match against Pakistan without seeking the prior approval of Cricket Australia and the ICC to display it, as required in the regulations for personal messages. This is a breach under the category of an 'other breach' and the sanction for a first offence is a reprimand."

The ICC's clothing and equipment regulations state: "Players and team officials shall not be permitted to wear, display or otherwise convey personal messages on their clothing, equipment or otherwise, irrespective of whether such messages are affixed to clothing, equipment or otherwise and whether such messages are displayed or conveyed through the use of the specific clothing or other items (eg. an arm band) or by the use of words, symbol, graphic message, images or otherwise ('personal messages'), unless approved in advance by both the player or team official's board and the ICC Cricket Operations Department. Approval shall not be granted for messages which relate to political, religious or racial activities or causes."

Do you require a death certificate to seek approval to wear a black arm band?

By doggedly trying to prosecute him, they’re providing media exposure to the very issue they’re trying to suppress. =D>

I just think no team would want to lose points to deny themselves a chance of playing in a WTC final and surely the players would want to avoid getting fined?

Look at Australia, missed out on playing in the initial WTC Final because of a loss of points due to slow over rates against India and then went on to win the next final in the previous cycle.

So, no impact really in the scheme of things. Any financial impact can be offset by any participation in T20's. And there doesn't seem to be any other consequences other than a few points on a table that no one really cares about.

'No one really cares about' is a generalisation, IMO you have to give the WTC time for the cricketing public to believe it has relevance because it's such a big change to test cricket.

Would’ve loved to see the big fella in the squad, I admire the tenacity of the players that do come across and front up against the beast attack in the world, I hope they give us a decent challenge, would love to see Chanderpaul score the most runs for the series.

They know they’re crap and that must be hard after growing up seeing how good their predecessors were.

And Pakistan will have at least 3 changes apparently, Shahzad out with that rib injury as Sajid Khan may replace him (the off spinner with the elite moustache) while Sarfaraz Ahmed has been dropped (for Rizwan) as has Faheen Ashraf who had a stinker in Perth, Hasan Ali and Mir Hamza are likely to replace him.

Fair bit of rain in Melbourne at the moment and 1-10mm forecast tomorrow.
