There’s talks there could be a restructure across a number of the northern leagues- APFL, NEFL, NAFA, BL&G & YPFL. The problem in the APFL is the southern clubs (Two Wells, Angle Vale, Virginia) are effectively becoming suburbs of Adelaide which means their junior numbers are huge and the number of top age juniors in each grade far outweighs the traditional country clubs.

Could we see these 5 leagues pulled apart and reassembled?

As much as it saddens me I’m hearing more noise than I hoped for, watching the divide in the APFL juniors over the past 15+ years though makes me realise it’s for the betterment of everyone, I guess I’m a little selfish as I love the APFL and all the clubs involved. I’m always made feel welcome to all of them.

Southern clubs from the APFL along with Mallala and Hamley Bridge join a second tier Barossa comp with say Kapunda and Freeling and have promotion and relegation between the two divisions?

The problem lies with the junior grades, they will be aligned to how successful the A Grade is, HWE, United & Hamley will struggle with juniors as the surrounding towns get smaller as more people move closer to the city for employment.
How United manage to field juniors is a credit to their club, I can’t imagine too many families live in Long Plains, Wild Horse Plains, Windsor, Lower Light and Dublin.

Just having a quick google search the towns you mentioned equate to a population of around 600....

It is a good effort by united but that 600ish is about the average for many clubs in the mid north.

BSR over 3 towns is about bang on 600.
RSMU about 800
Blyth/Snowtown about 700ish

Its a credit to country clubs that with a population between 600-1000 they can still find 41 senior footballers, 40 netballers, 30 junior footballers, 30 junior netballers every weekend. Plus all the volunteers etc it takes to run a club.

It is hard however to see how more clubs dont end up merging and capturing much larger regions in the next ten years.

Had a bit of a look into this with 21 census data looking at suburb pop. data. I was a little surprised of the size of Blyth to be honest.

I see Bute and Blyth/Snowtown held a joint pre-season training together to get more locals on the track and therefore a higher quality session. A great idea.

Yeah nice out of the box thinking which no doubt will benefit both clubs.

Our city lads (6-8 most of which are locals but live in the city for work, uni etc) train Monday and Wednesdays and combine with Orroroo, Kadina and Pt Broughton for the exact same reasons.

It works well and helps with the quality of training as well as just generally making new connections.

It would be interesting to see the population of males 17-40 in those areas/towns.
I would imagine it would be an aging populations and less younger population when compared to the “bigger towns”.

Season 24 is finally here, and it’s pretty even!

Ardrossan - plenty of SPOC recruits, 3-4 would be about a pass mark for Team Fiff
Bute - Buteroadview might sneak into finals after a few years down the bottom
CMS - plenty of locals and known recruits in, and wins will be regular your feel
Cougars - solid squad, didn’t lose many and have the best ruck/fwd in the league, hard to gauge
Moonta - a very strong squad, and a couple more plumbers before recruitment cutoff might mean another GF
Kadina - lost a lot, gained few and will rely on strong young local lads - might miss finals
Pasky - if the coach kicks a few goals, they might finish above Ardrossan maybe?
Southern Eagles - didn’t lose too many, will depend if Reddo can play regularly to be right up there
Wallaroo - half the Tailem crew stayed, brought in a couple of handy recruits but not much depth
