Started off ok yesterday and then hit a poor shot on the 6th.. and problems compounded from there. Did manage to get some handy flop shots going with the 60°

30pts today.

Driver was ok for a couple of hits but again a little wayward.

Atleast hit ball better today

We made the sevens GF this week so played 18 today at the Vines, double bogey the first wasn't the best start but ended up shooting 40 off the stick for 23 points at the turn, glad I got that in the bag as I stunk it up from there for 11 points on the back.

Really happy with the driver, have used a new tactic to line up the shot from behind and then remove all thoughts when standing over the ball and just pull the trigger, its been working really well - think Ive been watching too many youtube videos and filling my mind with too many thoughts.

Barnbougle next week, getting a bit excited

Flaggy this morning

Quite windy out there.
Was ok for a couple holes.
Bladed a wedge from 80m that ended up running along the ground and then jumped over the fence

15 on front

Started to get a little warm walking on the 8th
Was a little slow with group in front awfully pedantic on the greens
Driver didn't behave until 18th.
Points dried up on back 9
27 overall

Woke up this morning to a shower and some lightning on the way to the course

First drive very tentative and pulled it into the trees on the right. Walked away with a 6.
For the most part the driver had a slice shape on it
Putting was ok
Irons were ordinary
30pts

Barnbougle, what an incredible place, if you ever have a chance just go, just taking away the golf for a bit and you feel like you are miles away from the real world, which we all need at times.

We lobbed Tuesday arvo and headed out to play Bougle Run, the 14 hole short course, got the the first to find 20 guys from Sydney crowded around the small 1st tee waiting to go after us. I was rushed and proceeded to chunk the tee shot 20m  had a horrid 1st and 2nd hole but then hit my tee shot to 4 inches on the 3rd for a tap in birdie to settle the nerves, ended up 13 over for 28 points with 3 triples on the card, but 2 birdies - this is the story of the place, you can score if you keep straight, or end up with a big number of you don't, there isn't much inbetween. Bougle is great fun, most holes are 80-100m but very demanding.

Wednesday we hit Barnbougle Dunes, which I had played before, started par, bogey, par and then decided to try and drive the green on the 4th, nearly made it but still fell short, then stuffed my wedges up and walked off with a 9. From there the front 9 went all down hill, with the only highlight hitting the green on the signature 7th and making par, out for 58 and 12 points. Things didnt get any better on the 10th and walked off with a 9, but then I found some form with only one more scrub for the day. Highlight was again trying to drive the green on 12 and landing 1 metre off, got up and down for a birdie. 47 & 16 points gave me 28 points for the day, 5 behind the lead.

Thursday we tee'd off at Lost Farm at 8am, ready for 34 holes of golf in front of us. Lost farm is a little less challenging that the Dunes, flatter and much bigger fairways, best comparison is Lady Bay here in SA. I had a great day with the driver, hitting 12 of 14 fairways (other 2 were lost balls) with the irons and putting very consistent. Front 9 of 44 and 21 points followed by 58 and 18 points (11 holes) on the back, take away the 2 extra holes I had 93 off the stick for 36 points. Rapt that I played well and ended up winning the 8 man comp by 1 point to take the cash.

We had an hour break and then went and played ambrose on Bougle Run to finish the trip, which our team won. Quick change and then beers, bets, footy at the Sports Bar finished off an awesome trip. 66 holes in total is just over 2 days, special place.

14 balls lost for the trip, you go off the fairway and 1st cut of rough, ball is lost 90% of the time. One of the blokes on our trip lost his first ball on the 66th hole, hit it perfectly at the flagstick but took too much club and into the maram, fair effort though!

Par at flaggy and the slow play slips were handed out to monitor start/turn/finish

Started off very shakily with high toe slice that somehow stayed in on the 1st. Got away with a half.
But it was horribly slow waiting on the group ahead who when they got to the green were just snails....
-2 on the front 9 and should have probably been square.

Back 9 was ok, then got to 16th and thought I'd try cut the corner.... hit tree and think it went further into OB
17 hit drive too far and couldn't be bothered.
18 hit a horrid hook, found it and almost jagged a half with a belated little flop.
-5

Stroke round this morning

Driver fairly ordinary
Irons were ok
Putting was ok
Almost had a hole in one on 13th. Nice little 9i baby draw bounced and rolled up and hit the flag, the others thought it was gonna drop.... importantly made the birdie

92.

Had a hit yesterday with a mate at Yarrambat. Don’t think I can recall playing that badly for a long, long time. Hate to think what I would have scored. I actually stopped scoring after the 8th hole. Ran out of lead in the pencil!!

I have a few rounds coming up so was hoping to find some form.

The only good news it I’ve gotten the bad (******* awful) round out of the way. I hope!

Playing Schedule

Sun April 7th. Eastwood.

Fri April 12th. Hidden Valley. Bragging rights match v Corona Junior.

Sun April 21st. Cape Schank.

Sun May 5th. Growling Frog.

Still coming to grips with my game on Sunday.... It stank.

So in readiness for this Sunday.....

Fri arvo bucket of balls at the range.

Sat arvo - chips & putts at my local course, before punting at my local pub.

This would be the "John Daly" prep for a major, however I left out kicking on at the casino until 4am.

Popped down to flaggy for midweek stableford in readiness for rd 1 club champs

The weather wasn't horrid just drizzly, radar looked like it was gonna clear.
Step up 1st tee and not 100% sure on what shot shape the day was gonna bring.
Aimed down the left edge and somehow managed to toe it into trees on right. Scrambled a point
2nd hole - again same thing... lost ball, well didn't look for it, didn't deserve to be found.
4th hole, same, lost ball again....

An absolute embarrassing display of swinging a club. Slices are just soul destroying for me when I have a draw shape. So any slice just kills me.
Put in a hybrid, 1st time in ages, that was rubbish
Even a 6i at one stage had a slice shape

I just had absolutely no idea what was going on.

Driver came out again on 18th. Hit a better shot but still had a little slice shape on it....

So finished 23pts and confidence is at an all time low

After a shocker Wednesday and twilight Thursday wasn't much better, a quick driving range session took place Friday arvo.
Just a driver, 6i and gw. I'd say 70% of the drivers were good.

This morning rd 1 club champs, feeling a little better but still anxious in the unknown.
Started on 10th, and that first drive had a slight pull and into trees, batter it down for a 8
From there it was pretty average, a 48 front 9.
Few putts that I pushed and a couple that moved an incredible distance sideways given the length.
Made a slight comeback on back 9.
Finished nett 75

Eastwood - Sunday April 7th.

The Melbourne Forecast for Sunday. Chance of showers, most likely in the morning or afternoon ($ each way) 1-3mm.

Left home at 9.45 for the 50 minute drive to the course. Went through 10mm of rain on the way! As this round is part of a social group I had pre-paid $60 for the round. As I pulled into the car park, I was thinking oh well, at least I can get my $$ back, then go find a pub.....

Sadly all the boys where keen to play, even as we stood on the tee in the light, and sometimes heavier than light rain.

Played off the 10th tee. Opening drive sprayed right onto the 18th fairway. Punch out back onto the correct fairway. This is a very steep slope right to left. As I am picking my way through the trees, I have slipped over, going down hard on my backside. Actually winded my like a Kosi Pickett bump.
Double Bogey. Find the fairway on 11.... only to stuff the hole. Scrub. Drive on 12 pulled way left. Never found it. Scrub. Pipe one down 13, only to hit a 3 wood (going for the par 5 in 2) ******* sideways into the trees. 2 shots to get out Scrub.

Trees right off the tee on 14th, sneak one through to 100 out. Pull Wedge long left. 1 Point
Trees right of tee on 15th, punch out sideways. 210 still to go, 3 wood, leaks right. 2 duffed chips. Scrub. Can't actually recall the 16th.

17th slight downhill par 3, playing into the breeze (this hole set atop a hill) 5 iron struck nicely. Hits the front of the green (false front), spins back off the green. Up and down par.

18th - should have hit 3 wood from tee. Spray driver right onto the 10th fairway (the fairway I didn't find when I played that hole) clear shot over trees 100M wedge. Blade it into the trees, hack into bunker. I would still be in that bunker now if I didn't pick it up. Scrub.

1st - Smoke Stealth down the left centre. This is a downhill-ish hole of 365. I have 100M in. Smooth Wedge, pulled long left. Lucky to avoid the water, up & down for Bogey.

2nd par 3. 145. 6 iron left into Bunker. Scrub.

3rd - Drive pulled left but not too bad, rolls into water that you can't see off tee. Scrub.

4th - Drive leaks right into tree line. Knock it out. 8 iron onto green. 2 putt Bogey. Rain has returned.

5th - Pull drive left, hack out. Smash 3 wood (another par 5) blind shot over hill. Run's out of fairway. Hack out from trees. 1 Point.

6th - Drive right side of fairway. 5 iron to uphill to green comes up short. Chip on. Then stand under umbrella as large rain squall passes through.....for 10 minutes. Not passing. Green is right by clubhouse. **** this I 'm done. 2 off us walk in the other 2 silly pricks keep going.

Get drenched trying to get clubs & buggy into car. Take shirt off as its soaked. Through on a dry Jumper on. Head to pro shop to buy a shirt. They are all shithouse. Head into club rooms, any food? No, sorry! 2 Carltons & I head off.

And now for the scary part....... That's still better golf than the week before.

Grudge match with Son this Friday. I am due to play a bit better......I bloody hope so.
