Both those clubs have stable senior and junior programs which is a big plus. You aren’t recruiting a coach to recruit an A grade team.

The coaches at the higher clubs tend to be that - coaches.. where in lower grades they’re still players or mates or club legends.. so the focus on the higher grades is coaching what you’ve got essentially, whilst lower grades seems to be trying to build a loyal army.

A lot also comes back to the environment and culture you have as a club where people don’t want to leave.. they like the place and the people.. the good people.

Does that ever happen though. Never seems to have much more than a 1-2 year life span.

Agree though those northern burb clubs without strong junior programs are destined to be bouncing between div 5 -7 clubs who win premierships and relegations in equal measures.

Salisbury North have historically been real strong and really only Eastern Park were able to crack the top 4 divs for a period of 5 years (in the mid 2000's) on the back of SANFL players who were ex juniors retuning alongside talented juniors and strategic recruits.

Yeah, I think it does - loyal to mates, not to the club. One bloke goes, the rest follow.

It's tough though, because what are you expected to do? Can't turn blokes away, need to recruit to be competitive.. it's all good when you're winning.. and you hope you can make them love the place enough they'd want to stay.

It's exciting as a club too when you start seeing an influx of players coming and momentum building.

Yeah dont disagree.

It's all good and well to exist to be a div 1 club or win a div 1 premiership if a club can exist for the next 40 years in div 5-7 winning a premiership every few years it's not the worst existence.

That's correct - Eastern Park the only club that could do that because they played them Rd 1.

Rule has been in place for a few years now - keeps integrity of the comp.. as a C grade side, you'd be filthy if you got stitched up with a whole B grade side coming down for a week just because they have no game.

Para Hills and Sullies flying early. Brahma faltering so far, whilst Mitchell Park appear to be in for a very difficult season.

Smithfield copped a wake up call on Saturday with Hackham slapping them silly and Flinders Uni big winners over Mawson Lakes.

OSB v Flinders will be a good game this week, probably match of the round. Brahma host Hackham in arguably the most important match of the round - the Tigers need to get on the board, if they go 0-3 it'll be trouble town at the Lodge.. i'd almost be putting money on front runners going MIA / leaving.

Smithfield will beat Mitchell Park at home to go 2-1, and in the last game i'm tipping Weetra to kick 15 to get his season average to 10 goals per game.

Bit of a struggle for Mitchell Park off field too with a lack of volunteers. On the playing side it’s difficult with a heap of their players FIFO’s. I’m hoping they can work their way through it because they have some beautiful people in the club who are seriously overworked.

It'll be interesting to see if Mitchell Park can go back to back this weekend against Brahma.

They knock off Brahma and the wheels are likely to come flying off fast down there at Francis Road - some of their folk aren't exactly known for their resilience when the going gets tough..
