The Al Pollo with ravioli is simply brilliant, I went the meatballs with fettuccini, it would feed a family.

Both dishes are around $21 each, the garlic bread with cheese added made a great entree.

One of the best value for money vs quality places getting around.

Eyeing off the Greek on Halifax again next

2 reviews back to back!

Man about town!

Yeah, Monday and Wednesday nights.

Got a few more places to visit and then will be a once a fortnight thing.

I remember those days!

Big weekend for dining while I was in my happy place on the YP.

Ye Olde Cafe @ Moonta Friday night for some satay chicken and an open yiros type dish, both under $25 and both were superb.

Saturday evening was a trip to the Ale House @ Wallaroo where a seafood platter and a 400g Waygu t-bone were consumed for $36 & $44 respectively, platter was the pick of the dishes, the steak was cooked to perfection but I would've liked to have taken my own scales there.

Sunday we booked into the Bond Store Cafe @ Wallaroo and once again, this place never disappoints, a tad on the pricey side but I don't mind paying for quality. after some deliberation we decided on going the Grand Poobah of food on their menu, the Parilla Platter which consisted of Waygu Beef Rump, Lamb Backstrap and Scotch Fillet along with an array of sides consisting of mushies, pumpkin, artichokes, potato, corn and a few other bits and pieces.
It was $109 but was super impressive, pretty much everyone in the place watched it come out and some even wanted a photo of it, it did taste as good as it looked.

We then decided to cut our getaway early as I had purchased a smoker on Friday and wanted to get back in time to buy some meat to cook up in it and erect the fine piece of machinery, it's a pitboss pellet smoker which I'm going to have plenty of fun with, I had to sell my manual one as I'd end up drinking a carton of piss watching the temperature all day, this one is the absolute tits, I just load it up and let it cook whilst the internal temperatures are displayed on the unit.

Absolutely loved The Bond Store, hopefully will go there again!

Was up that way also, drove past the Bond store, wife was keen, my wallet wasn't.

Had a great feed at the Pt Hughes tavern, got out for a fish but unfortunately they were pretty quiet, only to KGW's in 3 hours, one was 43cm though.

Did you go to the new brewery in Kadina? I tried their beers via the standard paddle, was keen on one of them so decided to invest in a 6 pack only to be told they don't sell in cans/bottles

It is pricey but the quality is exquisite. My partner got a paddle of gins whereas I knew their pink gin is superb and well priced @ $12 for a sizey glass.

We went fishing on the Saturday, caught a few squid & KGW along with a heap of undersized leather jackets, after about 8 beers on the boat it felt like my balls were up around my tonsils so i went into the the Port Hughes Tavern for a slash, one of the bar staff asked if I needed any assistance so I asked if I could look at a menu, she was very rude and abrupt so we decided we weren't going to eat there later.

Didn't go to the Kadina one, I'll pencil it in next journey along with the one at Arthurton, I'll just make sure that we have a driver for the weekend next time, that is the crappy thing about these pop ups in country towns, unless you are staying in the actual town you can't really enjoy the spoils on offer, it's about $50 per journey from Moonta to Wallaroo via cab.

Family friend owns the Bond Store which I think may be up for sale, no family discounts offered sadly.

Love it up there, my Mum was laid to rest in Moonta (as will my Dad) so I love we have that connection/excuse to get up there semi-regularly.

I did see an advertisement for a $10 bus that goes between the triangle towns. The distillery at Arthurton is worth the trip.

Bollywood Bites
Last sat night
Junkfood corner Reynella.

Service was good. Bit of a mix up when ordering the Banquet, the chef thought we were ordering 1 which we were cos it's for 2 people
Belly Dance show was interesting
Entrees was solid.
Mains were OK. Not keen on the prawn job. Seemed more sauce than protein.
Dessert was ok, but needed ice cream. I told our waiter that and he said it's traditionally served with ice cream.
All up with a few drinks $125
Service 9/10
Food 6/10
Value 4/10

The good sponsors of the Freeling football club, The Greenock Hotel, do a top notch Chicken schnitty! Thick, good crumbing that sticks to meat all the way through.

Good value for $26 with mushroom gravy

Only drawback, WED is not on tap, only in cans.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Went to this place whilst in Bali: https://brazilianaussiebbq.com/
Basically, you pay $57 for the deluxe all you can eat Waygu package, they bring out skewers of all cuts of Waygu steaks and slice them off in front of you.

They also bring out striploin lamb, premium cuts of pork, chicken, gourmet sausages and something that I now cook in the smoker....................pineapple (I glaze mine with maple syrup).

This was the best meat that I have had, we went too hard too early and went back a 2nd time with a strategy of not eating for the day and staying off the piss.

They had some choice side dishes, their mac & cheese and their potato bake were on cue so was their desserts, their Bintang longnecks were around the $5 mark too.

I forgot that I had a $100 gift card for Bunnings so went to get something for the smoker, walked out with a Matador wireless thermometer.

I now have 6 probes that link to my phone to tell me the internal temps of each cut of meat that I'm cooking, it stores the history of each one along with what i was cooking.

Absolute next level, I cooked up a brisket, a shoulder lamb, plum burnt ends, drumsticks and yes, a pineapple, all were near perfect, I don't think I'll bother with chicken anymore though.

Neither has a decent photo gallery on their websites.

Been so long since I've been at either

Maybe it has improved, I haven't been for 15 years and still shudder when I drive past

I did go have a meal in their front bar/beer garden last year and that was nice.

Earl of Aberdeen

Been a fair few years since I last visited.

Garlic pizza bread - nice starter
500g porterhouse schnitty Mexicana was superb.
Salt and pepper squid with a Thai salad apparently was really good.
Dessert was the New York Cheesecake with praline, caramel and some nuts. Thought it needed something else to break up the ultra sweetness. But again was superb.

Beer and a wine.

$136

Ambience- was ok, jts a busy pub.
Service was ok. 6/10
Value - thought everything was reasonably priced
Overall I'd give it a 8/10 and happily return.
Interesting there was a dress up party upstairs and being based at the bottom of stairs we saw all the stars and characters of last 100yrs roll up

Didn't disappoint, great variety and I applaud anyone that can cook roast beef that just falls apart, it's a lot easier to just go with lamb.

Their Asian dishes were on point, roasts were succulent and I loved the fact that they had Yorkshire Pudding, great range of desserts too, I went at about an 85% meat intake to get my moneys worth.

Two things that tarnished the visit though, a lot of kids just running throughout the place carrying their food and the staff seemed to lack enthusiasm, they weren't rude, they did their jobs, they just seemed robotic..............no major complaints though.

It does cross my mind that they continue to trade well, despite its history, glad that it went well. From memory I think they renovated it during COVID so maybe that was a refresh.
