I’ll take that as your validation and respect for the Bays and those 21 GFs we’ve made….
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The dust has finally settled and i can categorically say that this one stings the most. Have felt somewhat numb since about half time of the game.
What we dished up on Saturday was disgusting and totally unacceptable. Simple defensive issues. How do three players miss a single player 20m out from goal??????
Decision making was poor. Pressure was poor.
Bucks put it perfectly on 3AW, we are flat track bullies. When things are good, we are amazing. When it gets hard and they fight back, we are weak.
Do i think the blame solely on Longmire. Nope, it's the players who put in that nonsense. I will blame horse for the selection of McDonald. That was dumb.

I thought Rowbottom was our best. Worked hard all day.
I don't know where we go from here. But, i know as a support base we are fuming. I for one won't be getting my hopes up again til we actually do something. Just making it, doesn't matter anymore. We need to win it!!!!

Brisbane were exceptional

You're no Robinson Crusoe there mate, I'd say Brisbane and Hawthorn would be the only two teams that can not be labelled that way (out of all the teams that have relevance).

To be clear, I'm certainly not of that belief, and nor do I think Longmire isn't a good coach.

I am of the belief that, after 12 years without a flag (and some very poor GF performances in that period), there's a legitimate question over whether it's the right time for a new senior coach, and the relevant decision-makers would surely be considering this deeply.

If he does coach next year (final year of contract) I'd suggest he'd need a flag to stay on beyond 2025.

Being a Port supporter my opinion is redundant.

Everyone exists to win premierships. He's a good coach that is true but he's the common denominator over the journey. It's mad to say you can't even question the bloke. It might even be that coach with that group. Look at Blight...couldn't quite get it done at Geelong but struck paydirt at Adelaide.

A tough post and I know those feels. 1995 was hell. Four grand finals and we worse each time we came back. 3 point loss at Princess Park in the season and lucky to only lose by 61 in the Grand Final and Carlton were exceptional. I think your boys are in much better shape than we were in 1996 but Brisbane will welcome back Coleman, McInerney, Marshall and another Ashcroft to this year's team. Frightening. They have had a taste as well.

You've been Hinkleyed my friend! I don't recall you being all that effusive in praise of Glenelg and Geelong in the old days. Those teams won plenty of big matches but not so good in Grand Finals. You can't expect universal praise for not being a basketcase. You're good if you make a Grand Final, but great teams win them. I think that is what most are saying here. Wubbsy seems to be standing by Horse though so it's those guys that Longmire needs to keep onside I guess.

They weren't in a system designed to (apparently) prevent repeated premiership tilts, the very basis of my view as noted.

Whose to say he's then the reason they keep getting back there instead of he's the reason they keep losing?

Yep the Lions look very liony for the next few years but whose to say they don't flop like Geelong and Collingwood did.
It's why I rate Brisbane and Hawthorn and hate to say it, Richmond so highly.
It takes so much out of a club to get one in a row much less 2&3

Fair enough. But what if it happens again next year? At what point do you think, maybe he's not the fella. For me he reached that point on Saturday, and even if he isn't, you surely have to at least ask the question.

Read an interesting Tweet so I thought I'd look back on Sydney's last 10 games of the year :

(Round / Opponent / Margin / Win-Loss )

14, Adelaide, 42, W
15, GWS, 27, W
16, Fremantle,1, L ( from here it gets interesting )
17, St Kilda, 2, L
18, North, 79, W
19, Brisbane, 2, L
20, Bulldogs, 39, L
21, Port, 112, L
22, Collingwood, 3, W
23, Essendon, 39, W
24, Adelaide, 31, W

The only win they had in the last 10 matches over a top 8 opponent was over GWS in round15, the rest were over bottom 10 sides and one loss was by over 100 points.

In the first final Heeney tears GWS one in 30 minutes of football and they win by a goal. They then get Port at home and rolled us.

Brisbane on the other hand.

15, Port, 79, W
16, Melbourne, 5, W
17, Adelaide, 11, W
18, West Coast, 13, W
19, Sydney, 2, W
20, Suns, 28, W
21, St Kilda, 85, W
22, GWS, 18, L
23, Collingwood, 1, L
24, Essendon, 20, W

In the first week Carlton limped to Brisbane and lost by 28 before the Lions pulled one out against GWS to win the Semi and then won that belter over Geelong.

Their form was vastly better than Sydney. I should have done this homework when Brisbane were $2.30.
