Before we were sold to a multi national 4 years ago our previous owners, discretely so not as a rule, would often pay out sick leave at 50% rate at the end of the year if you chose to do so. Often I'd have 20 or 30 days up my sleeve so come Xmas time I'd cash in 5 days worth of leave for 2.5 days pay for a little bit of extra coin over the break. A few hundred bucks is handy when a night out arrives unexpected.

Yeah but when a night out happens, sick leave can be pretty useful too...

Something like this, to reward dedicated employees at the employers discretionary, not legislated, is really good.

Worked where I am for about 20 years and only sick leave I've had was one time with CoVid and a few days for a minor op, all up less than one year's entitlements.

A trip to the dentist. A bit of scraping, a bit of poking, a couple of Xrays. Being told that my teeth are "unremarkable".

Total time spent in the chair: 15 minutes.

Bill: $312

And they wonder why people are neglecting their dental health...

Yeah, this.

I had a similar visit last time, was there for the same-ish time period and got a similar bill.
After they ran it through my insurance, I think I was about 20 bucks out of pocket, from memory.

I quit mine because I found that they covered jack shit of any dental work, it was good for a check up but when I weighed up the annual cost vs a check up visit it wasn't feasible for me.

Depends on the extras you have and who the dentist is ... I've found a combination which has no gap for a majority of dental work, so it's worthwhile, but (in an American voice) YMMV.

If any dentist tells you that you need an X-ray a, tell them you wish to be referred to an external provider such as Jones and Partners is it will be bulk billed. Saves you around $100 and is far more comfortable.

Jones and partners are thieves.
Had an xray and ultra sound bulk billed by my doctor recently but when I rang them to make an appointment they said they had no appointments available for 4 weeks.
But if I paid a gap I could get in the next day.
I had to pay it!

A former work colleague of Mrs Boon invited us to their wedding being held in the not too distant future.

They're in their 60's, it's not their first marriage, I've never met either of them and other than Mrs Boon know nobody at the wedding.

Fun.

Notwithstanding this.

A dental X-ray is very quick and they have in my experience done it ASAP. It is a walk in to the room, put your chin on the support hold still while they press the button and walk out. About 1-2 minutes.

I would stress that my last experience was 18 months or so ago and things do change.
