In a previous workplace I had 3 customer service reps and it was around COVID.

One had been there about 10 years and had little ones at home, she had a laptop, another had been there about 15 years, she had a laptop too, they both were available for longer than their office hours when they Worked From Home.

The other had been there about 18 months and we had 3 year leases on PC's etc. she was about 12 months off of being upgraded to a laptop but she was also extremely lazy and would go missing for anywhere up to 2 hours during the day.

She asked me one day for no apparent reason "Can you please fast-track my laptop so I can work from home"

I replied with "really? you don't even work from work", it was about then when all hell broke loose.

Anywho, I lent her my spare lappy for tow days while she tended to a sick pet and had run out of sick leave, I could barely get hold of her during the day, she'd send me a chat thingy and then I'd reply and she'd be gone, when I quizzed her about it she'd reply with "Sorry, I just took a nap" like it was nothing.

She ended up leaving before her laptop came through, thank God.

No shit, she wold rock up late nearly every day and make up for it by leaving early and then complain that she couldn't get her work done because she was too busy.

Microsoft

Monday morning: the puter shows its had a MS Update and rebooted
One Drive completely wiped
36 hours for the IT people to fix

Come in this morning - turn on and............ "Ole"..........
Up comes Windows 11 to really pi$$ me off

All of this despite the automatic update being turned off

I've recovered back to W10 and sent them feedback of what I think about them and their W11

It’s a losing battle my friend, MS are determined to piss off as many people as they can.

They’ve just hiked the price of the home M365 plans, or more accurately ‘upgraded’ everyone to plans that include Copilot disguised as a price rise. You guessed it, you can't go back to your original plan online, you have to contact them to put it back to what it was, and of course they’ll make $$$ out of this because most people are too apathetic to do anything.

That said, they’re not complete pricks all the time, as I’ve been in contact with them today for business plans and they’ve managed to save me money without any resistance. :D

It just came up

"You are about to be signed out so Windows 11 Assistant can upgrade you to W11" - It then rebooted.

I turned the puter off at the wall - W11 not installed

How many that work from home actually do an 8 hour days work

Plenty, I have one day a week in the office and 4 from home, I get little to no work done when in the office due to the distractions and collaborations (which is great but doesn't get work done). Im also out on the road a lot so being able to catch up on work after hours is the flexibility I need in my role as well as good work/life balance.

Ringing companies who have a 100% record of saying "we are experiencing a high no of enquiries so you may have to wait all day"

With a 100% record, I would suggest your "high no. of enquiries" is the norm and you're just not resourcing your customer services enough.

So far I've not had any attempt to force me on to Windows 11 but I'll watch for it.
My wife has W11 on her computer, but then she is happy to use all Microsoft software systems. I hate it!
I'm thinking of looking at new Linux options though just in case.

Adelaide Airport

New X-ray system in use

Well, make that only 2 X-ray machines in use
200 people lined up - some showing their frustration / anger
Funny how those “do not be rude to staff” signs are always where the service is very poor
Almost as if they know.

The bloke standing on the matt didn't make the call to upgrade the system so give him a break.
