Great first half by South, but couldn’t keep the momentum up in the second, with Sturt outscoring them by 8 goals to clinch another win, by 19 points.

Bit like last week, there was a realignment of the free kicks in the 2nd half….
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Don’t normally complain about umpires but that was really bad today.

disappointing loss for the Panthers but encouraging signs for the future. 8 first pick players out with injury and such a young inexperienced team on the park. Losing McCarty to concussion so early in the match didnt help, in an "interesting incident".......and also one of our players may have made contact with the debutant umpire as well....
Personally I thought the umpiring wasnt too bad, much better the the previous match v Bays..

Hmm, my post from Saturday night seems to have vanished. Was again a case of some good, some bad and some ugly from a South perspective.

From memory it was 32 inside 50's to 12 in the first half, so coulda/shoulda lead by more than 29 points at the long break.

Sturt then pulled their finger out and were largely untroubled thereafter, Hone bagging 5 majors in the second half.

Emile-Brennan's spike in form continued, and Skinner was again the best of the bigs.

I thought the debutant umpire handled the game well, seemed to be in the correct position for decision making. Only incident that could be construed as tricky was when the boundary umpire was emphatic it was out on the full, she questioned him if he was certain and he replied yes so awarded out on the full, the other boundary and field umpires came in and stated definitely a throw in as it was punched into the post forcibly and high. Even under that pressure from players she remained calm and methodical.

Its not so much, "definitely a throw in" its if there is doubt the lesser outcome applies. Query OOBOTF or thrown in its a throw in, query goal or a point it's a point.

As you described it the debutant handled it perfectly.

Solely judging off the TV she seemed to do a decent job overall.
