When I went to Uni to enrol they almost enrolled me in the wrong course because there was a girl with the same first name, middle name and last name.

I went to the Doctors once and she was given the records of an 8 year old that shared the same name as me instead of mine.

There is a gold medal winning swimmer (not Australian) that shares my name and I also played netball with a girl that shared my name.

You could say I have a very common name!

So its NOT Misty Hymen then...

Ha ha. As soon as I posted, I wondered how long it would take for someone to ask if that was my name!

My ex wife had the same 1st name as my mum, and my new wife's birthday is the same day as my 1st marrige wedding anniversary.

Also, one of the posters on here, who shall remain nameless  sent me a pm saying he was coming to the UK and did I have any recruitment contacts and advice on where the best parts of London were. We started pm'ing and it turns out he has the same surname as me

As far as I am aware i am the only person with my full name. There is another namesake in the states, who even has
his own website http://www.stevedirksen.com/, I checked it out and for a laugh have a look.
He's was a cowboy poet from Redlands California, who passed away in 2005, so no chance of him catching up with me !!

The most notable other person with my name was a Federal Member of Parliament from Tasmania. I believe he was also the leader of the coalition in the Senate at one time. I have had a nephew in England born and given my christian and middle names, so he shares the same full name as me. Strange thing is that I have only met his parents once - not sure why it was so memorable to them!
Cheers

This a very interesting topic.Have never met anyone with my name BUT there a few BUTS
When I was much much younger and working in a different job spoke to a guy with the same first and surname plus he added construction to it ,so it was his business name as well.
There is a Roman Catholic School (high school i think) in Canada with my name .
There is a Serial Killer in jail (or he could have been executed by now) with my name (not sure about middle name) in the states.About 20 years ago I read about myself (not me really) being locked up in yatla as a drug dealer.
Have seen my medical records on the local hospital computer four different people with the same first and last name as me, different middle names. It got a bit worrying with my first knee op they asked me if I had taken such and such medication.Came out the details of another person from a different hospital were printed up for me .

Now at my work my surname and another guys surname are the same as two AFL footy clubs .Well mine is the nickname of one of the two adelaide clubs no not Crows and his is spelt slightly different than one of the Perth teams. Now if Port Adelaide will pay me naming rights I can retire and go Fly Fishing all day
What sometimes gets me a slight discount at places around Port Adelaide turns into a nightmare when my SANFL club thinks that when we book a table for a meal its a joke surname. Please take note Colin !!

I am of German extraction, and we have been in Australia since the 1840s. A family rumor or tradition has it that an ancestor/relative serving in France in WW1 with the Australian Army occupied a town previously held by the Germans, there was a graveyard there, with graves of German soldiers killed in previous battles one of these graves had his exact name on it. Our name is not a common one even in Germany so the dead soldier was most likely a relative. It is interesting that in WW1 the German uniform had the motto "Gott mit uns" translates to "God is with us". Sort of underlines the futility of war because God was with "our" side as well :?
