I ask the question, what would you do if someone was in your house that you didn't want to?
Personally, if ANYONE is on my property especially after midnight and especially inside my house, I will use any means possible to get that person removed.
if that means killing that person, so be it, I need to protect my kids safety.
Why should the home owner be punished for this ?
If a would be thief is injured, TOUGH LUCK.

Smithy I agree with you there. Alot of people will say the same thing. Many people have families and given the world we live in today, its no telling what may happen. I mean there are some seriously F***** up people out there and for some reason the law to a point will protect them.

Reasonable force. If someone entered my home at night then I would unless a reasonable amount of hell on them!
Read my reply. It is directed at you because you have double standards

I was unlucky to live at Port a few years ago. I was broken into whilst I was asleep, woke up and went down the stairs to find my front door open, I looked outside and then shut it, before realising that someone had broken the window next to the front door. I went into the lounge and rang the cops as I thought it was about 3.30am and I didn't know who to call at that time to fix the glass as the front door was right on the street and I wouldn't be able to sleep with it broken. Low and behold whilst talking to the police a man stuck his head through the broken window and started talking to me.I shit myself and looked for something to hit him with and all I could find was a nerf bat. I had nothing, so I yelled at him and told him to go away that I was on the phone to the police. I went back to the phone and the lady told me to stay on the phone as back was coming. The cops had their sirens on and drove right past my place after the guy. My brave dogs woke up and barked at the police that came to my door. The police got the guy and arranged someone to board up my window.

The next day I put a metal bar next to my door so if he came back I could have something that I could hit him with.
The police came back over to take fingerprints etc and the policeman asked me about the bar. I told him what I had it there for and also that I had bars upstairs as well.

He then told me what I should do.

He said if he ever come back by all means hit him as the bar would knock him out and then drag him out on to the street, make sure he is not on your property, then he can't sue you or have you charged.

He then told me he hadn't seen the bar.

May not be the best advise but it worked for me.

I have since moved but still have the metal bars just in case it ever happens again.
