the food is good quality and is "refreshed" often - has an asian influence.. not too good for an intimate meal.... but really good for a larger type meal

Civic Park Family Restaurant at Modbury (cross the road from Tea Tree Plaza) is my pick at the moment. It has a really decent buffet (roasts, chinese, soups, seafood, lovely individual deserts/ice-cream and my dh's fave the personal steamboat on the table with its own buffet of raw delights for a couple of bucks extra) I know it's location is probably not right for you but a really good value joint none the less.

Actually, I was out Tee Tree Plaza way recently, happened to see it, and called in. I agree - it's great value for a decent feed. Their mini pies and shepherd's pie (among other things) are pretty good!

Nup no drinks, i mean they are available but for an extra charge.. also available for a small extra charge (a couple of bucks i think) is the steamboat - you get your very own on your table and can also eat at the general buffet also.

Is the one at the greyhounds still going? Been there once, years ago. Still a once a week thing (Thurs?) when the dogs are racing? What is the food like? And, can ya have a bet within the restaurant area?

Yep, still there, nice feed, and with the help of MAL et al, one a pretty packet too from the betting area at each end of the room.

Somebody here said the Hyatt Sploosh and I second that, very nice. Another one you could check out is the Casino, I assume they've still got one going. Never been a big fan of Smorgas-Trough myself .... maybe because I worked at the Buck.... :o

I went to Pullmans at the Cas last year, still good feed, lots of seafood so price is up a bit on others mentioned earlier in thread.

NEVER EVER EVER AGAIN!

Will i have a meal in the downstairs BISTRO at Globe Derby Park.

SUNDAY EVENING!

First of all we get to the track and wanted to sit down somewhere we could enjoy our meal and watch the races at the same time.
FIRST MISTAKE> we were sent downstairs as nothing else was available if we wanted to sit down and have ameal.
SECOND MISTAKE> we thought never mind we will miss the first couple of races BUT can watch them on the tv in the bistro WRONG it wasnt on.
THIRD MISTAKE> thinking we would enjoy our meal. I think the thousands of flies BLOODY enjoyed it more than we did.
FOURTH MISTAKE> ordering a T-BONE steak and recieveing a BLOODY chop instead.
FIFTH MISTAKE> within minutes and i do mean minutes of starting to take orders they first couldnt find the key to open the till. THEN when they did find it they had no BLOODY CHANGE.
SIXTH MISTAKE> again within minutes of taking orders they start wiping the menu board COZ they ran out of food.
SEVENTH MISTAKE> waiting forever to get our meal coz the chef had to bring it out herself coz the waiting staff hadnt showed up on time.
EIGHTH MISTAKE> waiting for the table to be cleared of dirty dishes by the waiting staff. WRONG my 4 young kids had to clear the table so our main course had room to fit on the table.
NINTH MISTAKE> expecting the salad bar to be full of FRESH SALAD. WRONG it was totally disgusting and i wouldnt even give half the CRAP they were offering to my dogs.

All we heard for the entire time we were in the Bistro was numerous complaints coming from nearly every table.

As i said i will NEVER EVER again eat a meal at GLOBE DERBY PARK and have passed on my experience to all my friends and colleagues to make sure they eat before ever going there.

1 FINAL WORD OF OUR EXPERIENCE IN THE BISTRO

The review you posted seems to suggest that they don't have a buffet. I certainly won't travel all the way for a crappy bistro; was that review old, or have they in fact switched away from buffet? Anyone know?

Yikes, conflicting stories. Ryles ate there this weekend, it was a bistro, Pag had a buffet a couple of weeks ago. Maybe they do different things on different nights, although I thought the dogs only raced on Thursdays?
