Me, I always buy the meat that has been marked down.

Mrs_dog_ger doesn't eat it....

I never buy vegetables from Coles or Woolies...

I support the local GreenGrocer..

I do the same Dog_ger. Anything that is due to be eaten soon, I grab and if I can't cook it up that day, I freeze it for later.

And I buy in bulk. Anything you get in bulk, you predominantly get cheaper.

Yep I agree with gadj...learn to love your freezer. I make lots of one-pot dishes...casseroles, chilli, curry etc and freeze the left overs in portions...haven't wasted money on ready-meals for years.

Another tip...don't be lazy...buy untrimmed meat (usually cost a lot less) and tidy it up yourself. Also if you are cooking for just one or two people learn how to joint a chicken...you will save a small fortune on buying the joints seperately and it's really quick and easy to do.

Become a regular customer with a local butcher or fishmonger they might not be much cheaper than a supermarket but they will usually trim and prepare meat the way you want it for no extra cost. Also the better they know you...the more generous they are when weighing stuff out.

- Grow some of your own veggies and fruit. Get the children to help if possible. Rewarding and heathier, plus a use for water that would otherwise go down the drain.

- Buy in bulk. If you can't, try not to spend up on things you don't need that might just go to waste anyway, just to save few dollars off fuel (false economy.)

- Take advice from people who've had to get the best from their dollar to survive. Nothing speaks louder than wisdom and experience.

buy bulk, buy marked down meat.

we are lucky we get plenty of meat and eggs for free, and the size of the cuts of meat are HUGE, bigger then anything you will buy in a shop.

If you drink soft drinks buy 24 or 30 can packs a can will be anywhere from 40 cents to 60 cents each.

Shop at Foodland, Black & Gold is as good a quality as "you'll love Coles" for half the price!

use a butcher and greengrocer. I found a butcher near one place i work at and i got over 15kg's of meat with pork, chicken, lamb and beef for $110 yesterday top value and sweet fa fat on the meat.

Shopping at Bi-Lo used to be good, now as its coles owned and assimulted into the coles jugernaut the prices are up there. But still wollies aint that crash hot with there prices. Im definitly starting to look at Fooland now.

I'm sure that Coles and Woolworths use the same profit margins. Or at least match each others price.

went to the central markets saturday for fruit and veg

we saved around 50% by going there as opposed to woolies

we were there around 2pm and the stalls close down at 3pm so most of the stalls have there food going cheap - usually for a $1

the difference in colour, taste, quality of the food at the markets compared to woolies/coles - well there is no comparison......

As your profile suggests you are in the North Eastern Suburbs, The Bilo that used to be located at the Modbury Triangle is now Romeo's Foodland and would easily be one of the top three Foodland's along with Pasadena & Munno Para.

Had an outing to the Parade a couple'a weeks ago. Noticed the supermarket inside the mini shopping centre (don't remember which badge it wore... it's across the road from the Angus and Robertson bookshop) had a sign out the front proclaiming it to be the cheapest supermarket in Adelaide. I took that with a large grain of salt.
