the wife of Australian champion test cricker Glen

JANE McGrath - the wife of Australian cricket legend Glenn McGrath - has died aged 42, after years spent battling cancer in the public spotlight.

Jane, 42, had surgery earlier in the year and was recovering before complications set in.

Her health reportedly declined rapidly this week and she passed away with Glenn and their two children, James and Holly by her side.

"It is with deep sadness that the family and friends of Jane McGrath, beloved wife of former Australian cricketer Glenn and loving mother of James and Holly, must announce she passed away at her home this morning," a statement from Cricket Australia said.

Her much publicised battles highlighted just how gut wrenching it is for anyone involved in losing a loved one too young, way way too young.

Condolences and thoughts to all that knew her.

Deepest sympathy to the McGrath family and friends.

Having held the hand of my best mate through her, so far, successful battle with breast cancer I've seen what a hard fight it can be. Can't imagine how much harder it must be under the glare of a public spotlight though. Hope they and especially the kids will be given the space and privacy they deserve.

In SA we can all donate to the Cancer Care Centre Edmund Street Unley.
The team there have the task of reserecting and or comforting Cancer sufferers.

The highs and lows that Glen Mcgrath has edured in recent years
Recently retiring after a glittering fast bowling career and arguably in the top 3 quicks produced in this country.
For Glen to come off that emotion and then to lose Jane is ...

Prevention is better than cure sometimes.
Treating this disease in its infancy gives a better chance to survive.
Suggest if anyone has a constant ache or pain for over a month to ask thier GP for a scan.
But for too many this disease can also spring from nowhere and too often too late to cure.

Words are never enough
Commisarations to Glen

Not wanting to detract from the reason for this thread but to add to what mal has said just in case anyone is thinking 'why donate, it's a women's disease'...

Men get breast cancer too...about 300 a year in the UK.

I donate here and proudly wear pins for both...pink ribbon for women and rugbyball for men.

whilst not wishing to detractfrom the tragedy of another death from cancer, thousands of men and women die of various cancers every day. My wife went through ovarian cancer 5 months after giving birth to our son, resulting in a radical hystorectemy and instant menopause. Whilst the cancer council were great, getting any assistance from government departments(for home help with a five month old baby) was a joke because I had the temerity to earn about $54K last year making us "wealthy"
Mrs McGrath was lucky enough that she had a husband who was wealthly enough for her to do all her philanthropic work, for which she is to be rightly commended, but there are many more of us out here that struggle bloody hard to get past this f*cking disease and the lasting effects it has on everybody.
