On Sunday the emus showed that at this time of year you need to take it up a level and boy did they!! Smith did what he has done to every forward this year and that was dominate from the backline, whilst holding his opponent to nothing. Bode dominated the ruck all day, polly kicked a bag, Bayly boys did as they pleased and Starter Gaskin was a pillar of strength (especially the first 1/4). However whether you win a prelim by 1 point or 106 points the scenario remains the same and emus must reproduce the same form this saturday. Fortunately they have some experience in this regard.

Agree Swooper, but for me Gill in the ruck after half time for Cove was outstanding and his battle with young Bode will be a match up to watch

Saw the incident, thought it was worth a 50, maybe a yellow card definetly not a red.
The umpire initially looked like he was just going to pay the free untill the melee started and then he had second thoughts. Seen much worse.

Sounds like there was alot of ugly incidences over both days, but i had to have a chuckle at this one. Plenty of people that would like lift an elbow to a Bayly.

Will hopefully be a cracking game this weekend, very hard to pick a winner, maybe Morphett Vale on Grand Final experience and their form in the Prelim, but Cove have been the better side all year. I'll pick the Emus by 5 points and Josh Vick to be best on ground.

Yes we also have minis that play on Sundays 2/3 4/5 6/7 not in years but school levels.

Specky McGee wrote:A Mum, I can answer that question for you. The league also has 2/3s, 4/5s and 6/7 which play on a Sunday before the C graders.

Of course !! I forgot about school footy.

Thanks for your replies O:)

So some of you have very big/full weekends during the footy season then.... must get exhausting sometimes. :)

O:)

Mum, this sunday competition is on top of the Panther League (school comp) which is run on saturday mornings. It gives the kids an extra game of footy each week and gets them involved with a real footy club.

Yes... I can see also how some families if having more than one child playing... wouldn't be able to play the Saturday school footy with the 14's starting at 8-15am in the club games... so it's really good that there's a Sunday comp.

So does this mean that the ones playing on Sunday are playing under the actual clubs... as in Port Noarlunga, old Noarlunga etc, etc .... whereas the Saturday school footy is for the school ??

Morning lads. Emus far too good. They won the toss and kicked into breeze and never gave Bombers a chance. Its one thing to be fit and quick but if you ain't got the footy you ain't going to get close. Bayly's were outstanding and Gaskin was a powerhouse up forward. Polly also had his kicking boot on. It will take a mighty effort from the Cobras to knock off the rampaging Emu's. We'll take some solace from having our young B grade, Under 18 and Under 16 in action, however this only takes away a small amount of pain from yesterday.

Gee, our Secretary has copped a bit. From what I hear you're off the mark Vics. Apparently Cove team sheet named Gill in the 18 and Size as Interchange but Size started and Gill was on bench. Porties picked up on this and asked officials for a ruling. SFL guys were scurrying around trying to work out what the rule is and in the process asked our Secretary what he knew. All he did was tell the SFL officials that he thought AFL Rules stated that Gill is deemed to be illegally interchanged (no different to a player exiting the ground outside the gates) and shouldn't be allowed to take the field. The same thing happened to North in the SANFL this year. As it turns out only the Interchange steward can determine who can and can't go on and off, and when Gill was allowed to come on without being stopped then its end of story. Stewards were powerless though because SFL boys couldn't give them a straight answer. Bottom line is that it is a very strict and harsh rule and a bit tough on a club who may have made a minor error with their paperwork. Ando and his support crew just need to be more careful next time.

As far as yesterday goes, the Sec did blow his stack at half time yesterday because he and several others including me witnessed a deplorable gutless punch from the bloke who copped a 6 week holiday from the SANFL tribunal earlier this year. Brighton player was on his knees in a scuffle and this bloke came from 20 metres away with fist cocked and if he made the intended contact would have smashed every bone in the face of the Brighton player. The Sec does carry on a bit at times and did get far too emotional about it and should have kept a lid on it.

Porties put on a good show for the day, yes it was a pitty about the wankers behind the goals and from what i gather it was members from both clubs. the problem is that if the SFL werent shark farts and put on extra security or police for the day these problems wouldnt happen. it dosent matter which club these people came from it would happen know matter what. these people are these ones who are the wanna bees and dont have kids and are the ones who ruin every year. they dont have respect for either club and are the piss minders who the clubs dont want to associate with.

People need to remember dont point the finger at the host club. Cove need to remember not to point the finger cause there history with fights is so F******g great either.

Your name should be Numpty. You GATHER in other words you no idea what went on. As earlier posted it was not supporters from either club who caused the trouble it a few idiots from elswhere. Also I have not seen Cove or Porties point the finger of blame at anybody.

n your name should be smoker.n for a fact smoker it was it started because a bloke threw his beer on a supporter.n it errupted.so put that in note book

Would have been interesting to hear Francis' post-game talk, as according to him at the Bay, "Morphies your season's over, your done!"

I'd say he's got 6 months to think of ways to get his foot out of his mouth.

i am now 50/50 on whether the GF should be moved back to Porties. I know the atmosphere on the whole is better with the BBQ's, cars etc but you cant tell me that continual fighting between pi$$ed up supporters is good for the SFL. I actually left just after 3/4 time when cove kicked the first goal and ended the game so actually missed the incident. but at 3/4 time it was blatantly obvious it was going to kick off. Went in to listen to Ando but all you could hear were both sets of supporters mouthing off at each other. Wasnt even funny banter or anything like that just blokes who had been in the sun too long on the gas wanting to fight. Wasnt about footy at all.

People are saying that it is the SFL and police fault for not enough security or police presence. But F*ck me its a prelim final between 2 local clubs. There is no way that things should get that out of hand. I can understand police and security at the GF when there are alot of hanger ons and people there that have no interest in the footy and just drinking but for a prelim...?

I had a poor vantage point of the scuffle in the second quarter in the emu / bomber game (presuming this is the incident your talking about DTH?)so cant really say to much. but talking to a noarlunga player who was standing right in front of it he said that the punch brookman landed on D. Sampson was one of the cleanest hits he had seen. Just curious to know whether your secretary mentioned that in his rant?

Mind you tho i dont think either A grade game on the weekend was played in bad spirit.

Swooper I agree with your comments. The scenes on Sat were poor to say the least. If you were at the Shoe on Sun you would of seen the lads in yellow tops with 2 way radios for traffic control also to oversee any fools and if there was a polite pull your head in. Just having a presence keeps fools in line. :(

So Fishlock's hit on Brookman was a square up then, Swooper?

Possibly. Fish doesnt usually get too involved in that sort of thing so something must have riled him up. As i said tho i had a poor view so not sure what happened. I just asked a mate from noarlunga who was standing where it occured and he just said he saw the hit on Sampson and it looked like a beauty.

Oh okay. Brookman was also pushing around young Bode at the time and I though Fishlock's action were abit over the top. But if he saw the Brookman punch on Sampson, he may have decided it was a perfect time for an 'evener!'

I saw it clearly and I'm not sure what upset Sambo but he threw the first one and Brooky got a few in as well. Both made some pretty solid contact. No problems with that, just 2 blokes having a crack one on one. But then Brooky goes on to his knees and No. 1 runs in from about 15 metres away with fist clenched and delivers one of the biggest uppercuts you'd see. Lucky for Brooky it just didn't quite find its mark. I can't recall seeing Fish doing anything untoward.

A Morphettvale outfit pre-purchased their premiership t-shirts one year to save costs and had the gaul to wear them to the GF. I hear it was a nice piece of motivation for the opposition who promptly rolled the emus.
Where's Bill? Yeah... Hmm... Bill is on the Villa Quatro, on the road to Salina. I will draw you a map.

On a side note...On saturday walking back from the cove huddle at 3/4 time i overheard the forums favourite son "The PonyTail Xpress" giving a spray to one of his watergirls. Not sure what she had done but she was told in no uncertain terms that if she does it again she wont be running water anymore.
