In a media release this morning, Sturt FC have announced that Brenton Phillips will not be seeking an extension to his contract.
"After coaching the Sturt Football Club for five years Brenton Phillips has advised the Club that due to increased demands of his employment and growing family commitments he will not seek an extension of his current coaching contract for 2007 and beyond.
He will continue to coach the club for the remainder of the 2006 season."

If he has called it a day well done to his efforts, I personally think he's done a fantastic job with Sturt with the limited resources he's had.
Personally I think knocking off Central in 2002 in the GF will go down as one of the biggest David v Goliath wins over the years with comparitive resources of the 2 clubs at the time.
PS The SANFL forwards important media releases to their mail list which I'm on and I haven't received it yet and its not on their official site.
(Edit: I've just seen that its on the main page of footysa so it would be fair dinkum as the footysa lads are always in the know as to breaking news - its also on doubleblue.org)

Issued: Tuesday July 25th, 2006
After coaching the Sturt Football Club for five years Brenton Phillips has advised the Club that due to increased demands of his employment and growing family commitments he will not seek an extension of his current coaching contract for 2007 and beyond.
He will continue to coach the club for the remainder of the 2006 season.
Brenton successfully coached the club for 103 games and a 57% winning performance up to Round 16 this season. During his tenure Sturt has played in the finals each season and won the 2002 SANFL premiership – the first for Sturt in 26 years. His coaching philosophy encouraged many supporters to regularly attend matches because of the exciting brand of team football played, and he consistently provided a link between the club and our regional promotional zone by regularly visiting players and coaches in the country.
Throughout the five years at Unley, Brenton has provided outstanding leadership and direction to all levels of the club and has encouraged players to be aware of the importance of club’s wonderful history and culture. He has worked tirelessly with his coaching team to recruit, educate and develop players who have the ability to progress to, and replace the current very successful senior team.
The Sturt Football Club wishes Brenton Phillips all the very best for the future in whatever field of endeavour he undertakes. We thank him for five outstanding years as our senior coach.

Bruce Winter might be a good choice, if you coach the eags to a flag you can coach anyone to a flag

ATKINSON EYES TOP JOB WITH BLUES
Sturt premiership rover Brodie Atkinson has flagged his interest in the soon to be vacated coaching job at Unley.
In the wake of coach Brenton Phillips' imminent departure at the end of the season, Atkinson - the Blues' reserves mentor - said he "has always wanted to coach at the highest level".
"I wanted to come back at some stage to coach the club," said Atkinson, who coached Portland to the Western Border League premiership in 2003.
"But if it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. It's only an ambition of mine.
"What is in the best interest of the footy club is of the most importance to me at this stage.
"And if they go in another direction and I'm still able to be involved, then I will be happy with that as well."
While Sturt general manager Stuart Totham said Atkinson was advantaged by his knowledge of the playing group, he also stressed the 34-year-old would undergo the same selection process as other applicants.
"Once we've got the criteria up, Brodie will be assessed with the other candidates," Totham said. "What we're looking for, with our list evolving, is a coach who is a good teacher, communicator and has good people management skills to develop the group."
Totham said the club would advertise the position nationally within the next few weeks. "We've got a bit of time now. It's out there and has been flagged to prospective candidates," Totham said.
"I think that's an advantage to get it out early before the rush comes on."
If you ask the outgoing Phillips, it is exactly this reason behind him making the announcement with at least two months of season 2006 to play.
"I've always said when my time was up at the club I was going to give the club enough opportunity to cast the net far and wide," Phillips said.
"That's not saying the people around the club aren't the best for the job, they need to go through a thorough process of what they want and how they'll go about getting it.
"I think he (Atkinson) would be quite good as a senior coach. He's probably in the same position I was when I came to the club in 2002.
"I'd done a bit of coaching but everyone was saying 'Who is this bloke and what's he done previously?'. You don't really know unless you give them the opportunity."
And it was this opportunity afforded Phillips for which he will be eternally grateful. "I've got a special bond (with the club) and it's something I will always cherish, the time I had here," Phillips said. "I really do thank the club for giving me the opportunity to coach because they put their neck on the line. I'll be forever indebted for that."
