NSW get McCullum for 20/20 Final!

New South Wales has pulled off a major coup by signing New Zealand star Brendon McCullum for the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash final against Victoria on Saturday night.

McCullum will also be eligible to play in the Champions League to be staged in India in October, should his IPL team - the Kolkata Knight Riders) not qualify for the tournament.

The Kiwi holds the record for the highest ever innings in a Twenty20 match, scoring an incredible 158 not out off just 73 balls in the first ever IPL match.

"Cricket NSW is thrilled to have secured the services of Brendon McCullum for the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash Final at ANZ Stadium this Saturday night and hopefully for the Champions League later in the year," Cricket NSW Chief Executive David Gilbert said.

"With the potential losses the NSW squad may suffer depending on which two IPL teams qualify for the Champions League, it is vital that we strengthen our squad ahead of that tournament."

"Brendon is one of the most dangerous limited-overs batsman in world cricket and will be a tremendous asset to NSW in terms of his considerable international experience and the match-winning ability he brings."

McCullum will open the batting for New South Wales in the final, meaning that one unlucky Blues batter will be forced out of the team.

yea and they wouldn't let Hopes play too? Hopes has played most of their 20/20 season, surely he should be able to play!

I could understand if say Tasmania were in the finals and they wanted bring back Ponting, but jeeze, these guys have played 90% of the 20/20 season!!

I feel sorry for the player who misses out on selection for new South Wales,no faith in the squad that got them to this final

As for McCullum he should be booed at every opportunity by the crowd and i hope he gets out for a duck.

it reminds me back to 1969 when royce hart played his 1 & only game for glenelg in the grand final.....it cost glenelg $4,000 but i wonder what it cost nsw to get him


personally if he'd played a 'qualifying match' i'd be happy for him to play but to come in to play the gf & cost someone a spot (who genuinely deserves it) isn't right (neither was the royce hart situation even though that was different in relation to being in the army etc)

Its still cricket FFS- they use a willow bat, 156g ball there is 11 on a side- its just shorter and teams use different tactics as a result. If you go for a 10km ride- it may not be the tour de france but its still called cycling- surely its better having some cricket on tele than nothing. As for Mcullum- whoseto say it will help anyway- the 'backs and WA international stars did F all for their chances. If the vics are worried about it they can get someone in as well
