Yes, it does take time Dog_ger. What you can do is take advantage of the 0% on balance transfers that come around. Swap the balance owing from bank to bank and abuse the offers they make.

I only have one card, for work expenses. Saw too many people fall into traps when I worked in a Credit Union to fall into it myself.

Sounds like you've done well so far Dog_ger...stick with it...it's a long, hard slog to get rid of your those kind of debts but well worth it. You really do appreciate and look after what you have a lot more if you've had to save hard for it.

Btw...don't be too quick to knock 11%...I've just had a look at one of those comparison site to see what they charge here (had no idea) seems to average between 15% and 17% from what I can tell.

Credit cards have only one use.
Charge things to them and make one payment in full at the end tof the month and save on EFTPOS fees etc.
If you can't do that don't touch them - the interest rates on card debts are obscene - but running up the debt is something you do voluntarily.

I remember that a few years ago one of the banks proposed extra fees for those people like me who "cheated" by paying their cards in full each month, but the banking sector as a whole realised that would make their intentions to lure everyone into massive debt on high interest rates too obvious.

OK, I should have said "Credit cards have only one economic use." ;)
I wonder how many other uses we can come up with.
I have found in the past that a gold VISA has some use as bait...

Dog-ger, credit card, overdraft and personal loan rates are not governed by the reserve bank, which means that your FI can generally charge whatever interest on them that they want.

Which bank witholds money for 24-48 hrs?

I rang my bank to see why funds had not been deposited yet.
I was told the bank releasing the funds (which bank?) has a policy of lag from 24-48 hrs.
I said that was ridiculous.
I can send an email instantaniously, surely funds can be transferred as such?
If the money was taken by horse & cart to Melbourne, I could understand the 48 hr delay.
I'm thinking about invoicing the bank for interest on the monies, plus slapping a late fine on them....

It is apparently common practice. I recently transferred the purchase price of my house in SA.
The staff person at the ANZ suggested the quickest way to get it there was to take an ANZ bank cheque made out to the conveyancer's trust account and walk into the CBA next door to deposit it to the conveyancer's account.
