orangatan escapes adelaide zoo

Adelaide Zoo was evacuated when a 62 kilo orangutan escaped from her enclosure on Sunday morning.

Zoo staff said 27-year-old Karta, who is extremely intelligent, used a stick to short circuit electric wires around her enclosure, then piled up some more sticks to climb out.

But she only ventured as far as a surrounding fence, still metres from members of the public.

It was then that she seemed to realise she was somewhere she shouldn't have been and returned to her enclosure.

Zoo curator Peter Whitehead said Karta was spotted by a member of the public and although she returned to her enclosure voluntarily, the zoo was evacuated as a safety precaution.

Karta was to be secured inside her night den before the gates would be reopened.

Mr Whitehead said Karta was not aggressive and had not been close to members of the public.

would it be fair to think perhaps karta was looking for her pal that died a week or so ago ?
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

So let me get this straight...she picked the lock with a fountain pen she swiped from her handler when he wasn't looking, then tunneled through the softer earth outside her enclosure using power from the electric fence to keep an intricate system of tunnels aerated over a series of months it took to build the tunnels, her ruse was only detected after presenting a forged ID to zoo staff and forgetting to answer their questions in English, speaking instead in her natural orangutanian. A dead give-away.
What happened to the good old days when the height of an orangutan's intelligence was old George throwing his shit at the children crowding his enclosure?

She would be smart enough to speak English, so i don't think her native tongue gave her away. Maybe she forgot to put pants on?

Well I know a few blokes who can speak English and forget to wear their pants sometimes so it is possible.
