Bring that CLG has the lowest against score by a fairly healthy margin and the amount of run and forward ball movement they get off of their half back line wouldnt this give them the best backline?

Will be interested to see how BL handle West Croydons forward line this week at Fawkes. What do ya reckon Teddy Bear?

WC have a good forward line but also have a somewhat weak backline, which will hurt them come finals time against the top sides.
I think you'll find if BL contain Vessali (ruckman) they should win the game quite comfortably.

That means we would have had the pleasure of playing togeather. What position were you playing?

It was strange, I told Darren that I couldn't play this week because I think I have broken some ribs, he said "Mate, we are so short we really need you. How about we play you at full back in the B Grade for a rest?". I thought that sounded OK at the time.

Then I line up on a guy who would have weighed twice as much as me and could still move pretty quick, first contest and he gets me right in the sore spot. I could barely move for the rest of the half and didn't play at all after that. I got barreled over in the forward pocket right in front of your A Grade and the guy then gave away a 25m. Couldn't tell you what number I wore sorry.

Had a good chat to your full forward, Jonesy? I think? Seemed like a good bloke.

Geez with 25 injuries your team is doing remarkably well!!! Your B grade has good balance, (especially the 3 lads in the guts who run all day and don't mind kicking it long) and is still sitting nicely on 4-3. Could be a winning streak coming up if you get some players back (As long as you don't get them back until after you play us next)

We hope so. Traditionally our A Grade has been a lot stronger than the B's, I know some main stayers in the magoos that have had years and years of bad losses. For them to be winning or competitive each week is fantastic to see. One of our A graders coaches until 3 quarter time and then our captain/coach takes over. They have done a wonderful job but it all started under Scott Weekley last year when he managed to instill some confidence into players that previously had none.

Your A grade did extremely well to not get absolutely demolished after the score at quarter time was 9.9 to 2.0. Ok, so you let 10 go through in the last quarter, but for the 2nd and 3rd quarters your guys were very competitive and strung some nice passages together. I had a feeling it would be a 35 goal to 5 match, so to battle hard all day was admirable.

Yeah agree. It was a good effort by the guys that did manage to get out there. I thought the same as you, that we would be in for an absolute demolishing.

Look forward to welcoming you guys to Mitchell Park for the return fixture.

you also have to factor in the mdfield pressure which in alot of teams case's save the back line i believe brahma lodge do that the best but i do agree that CLG would probably have the best back6 in the comp. lockleys back line also like to run off and guve plenty of drive.

Apologies for the delay everyone, been a busy few days!

This week saw the Lions travel up Main North Road yet again to take on the undefeated Brahma Lodge. It was always going to be a stern test at the best of times, let alone when we are struggling with injures and other commitments.

The B grade had a couple of players called up late to fill in for the firsts, leaving a massive hole in experience and strength. With this difficult preparation it was a great effort to start so strongly. Kym Logan snapped brilliantly from 30m out and the Heng brothers shot out of the blocks. If the B Grade had a decent full back they would have gone into the first change with a handy lead. Al Driver was his typical dour self all day. Barking orders left and right he showed true grit by pushing through the pain barrier after popping his knee out in the last quarter. Not wanting to let anything slip he demanded to be let back on and nearly got a match winning clearance on the far wing. Buhak Heng was powerful in the centre, weaving some magic and escaping from the clutches of the Brahma players he provided numerous goal scoring opportunities. His brother Bory Heng played a similar game and managed to kick a goal himself after some gut running. Tyson Vitale and Chris Cherrish were pivotal early taking several strong, defensive marks. Brahma Lodge were fiercely competitive all day and managed to hit the lead in the third quarter. Without an answer to their strong marking forwards they over ran us and kicked a late goal to end what was a fair and competitive match. Brahma Lodge 8.14 – 62 def. Mitchell Park 7.7 – 49.

The most difficult task in Div 6 amateur football faced a heavily depleted A Grade side. With 12 walk up starts not playing we were pushing the proverbial uphill all day. Credit must go out to the aforementioned Buhak Heng and Bory Heng. Not only were they in the best for the B’s but did not hesitate to back up again for the A grade when asked. Well Done. Congratulations must also go out to Brent Potuszynski, Michael Brooks and Craig Teakle for their first A Grade games in 2009. Some inaccurate kicking early from The Lodge boys kept Mitchell Park in it but it was obvious the tide was about to turn. An interesting move from Coach Darren Butler saw star Luke McDonnell on the wing. Using Luke’s drawing power to throw The Lodge’s structure out provided dividends early but the run and carry from The Tiger prime movers proved too strong. ¼ time saw a horrible looking scoreboard for The Lions and most thought we were in for a really bad day. To the senior players credit we held firm and managed to hit back a little. Luke moved back down to his traditional full forward role and kicked truly, finishing with 6 goals. Aaron Cox defied age and size and managed to provide a bit of a nuisance factor for the Tiger backline, marking strongly he finished with 2 goals. The defence held together okay, considering the amount of forward line entries it was a brave effort. Jeremy David spoiled his opponent well and Joe Leck was again good - even impressing the local crowd with a couple of torps from full back. Credit where it is due Brahma Lodge were far too good and look the side to beat this year, however, some of the efforts out there on Saturday by our lads were more than admirable. Brahma Lodge running out 110 point winners 27.21 – 183 to 11.7 – 73

The return of some players in the coming weeks, combined with an improved effort on Tuesdays and Thursdays will see Mitchell Park live to fight another day.

Bluey played a couple of B Grade games early on and then got the call up to the A Grade once he had some fitness. Played very well against Hectorville but I think he might have jagged his back. He was going to play this week but was too sore apparently.

I would be expecting him to get up for this weeks game but will find out more tonight.

As you might well know, Bluey is a match winner at his best. He won our best and fairest in our last premiership year - 2002, in Div 6. Also got BoG in the GF. Great player, hope to see him really firing later on in the year for Parkies.

That would be Josh...he is only just finding his feet again and played quite well on the weekend but still has some improvement left in him.

After the umpire finished giving his 25m penalty you could have almost had a shot on goal from them...longest 25m i have seen in my life!

You guys still went very well and the brothers were great for you guys. Very hard to stop once they get going and i think lightning is jealous of their speed!
