West Ham could be sold for £100million by the end of the week despite the sudden death of the prospective buyer’s chief executive, InterMarket’s Jim Bowe.

The consortium, understood to be made up of West Ham fans and backed by a division of Deutsche Bank, say they will have funds to complete the deal by tomorrow and head off rival bids by ex-Birmingham owners David Sullivan and David Gold and Malaysian businessman Tony Fernandes.
InterMarket have asked for extra time to finalise the buyout following the death of Bowe, 59, at his home in North Carolina on Sunday

West Ham fined £115,000 but escape Upton Park closure for violence that marred Millwall Carling Cup tie

West Ham United were fined £115,000 and ordered to pay £5,000 costs by the FA for failing to control their fans in the Carling Cup clash with Millwall in August.

The club are expected to appeal against the stinging punishment, set down because they were found guilty earlier this week of failing to ensure supporters refrained from violent, threatening, obscene and provocative behaviour, as well as failing to stop fans from invading the pitch.

New West Ham co-owner David Sullivan claims he has offered a £100,000-a-week contract to a 'special player'.

Despite Sullivan admitting earlier in the week that the club are £110million in debt, he says he could break the bank in wages to sign a star player.

Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has been linked with a move to Upton Park, having fallen down the pecking order at the Bernabeu, although the Hammers are not thought to be the sharp-shooter's only suitor.

Sullivan did not mention the player who has been offered the contract, although the club are known to have a goalscoring forward at the top of their wish-list.

"We've offered £100,000-a-week to a player today and we are still not sure we are going to get him," he said.

"That was a very special player. There's no transfer fee involved and he's got the choice of almost every club in Europe. He has played at the highest level.

"He's down to three clubs and West Ham are the only English club still in the hunt for him. Whether we get him is another thing.

"We can carry one exceptional player, who would make a difference on that wage, but generally we have to bring the wages down and in the summer we would hope to sign younger players on a fraction of those wages.

London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe has told West Ham that it is non-negotiable that the Olympic Stadium's primary purpose will be anything other than track and field.

The Hammers new co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan have expressed an interest in taking over the facility in place of Upton Park after the Games have concluded in two years' time.

Coe was quizzed by international athletics president Lamine Diack at the IOC session in Vancouver over whether the stadium would be for football or athletics after the Olympics.

And he was unequivocal in his response, saying: "This will primarily be a track and field facility but we have also made it clear we would explore other sports sharing the stadium.

"Track and field will be its primary purpose, but it is sensible to look at other options for income streams and community use."

The Olympic Park Legacy Company are drawing up plans to look at possible options and the ultimate decision on the future of the £450million stadium will be theirs, said Coe.

He added: "It's non-negotiable that this is a track and field facility and the president of the IAAF knows that."

I heard the stadium after the games will be reduced to 20,000 seats and that Leyton Orient maybe moving in there, they are the closes team to the stadium and they do a new one, brisbane road is cramp to put it nicely, but being in league 1 at the moment might not help there chances.

The stumbling block for any football being played there after the olympics (with the exception of the 2018/2022 world cup) will be the running track.

No club wants a running track around their pitch. Look at Eastlands and Molinuex. Both are terrible with supports about 20m from the pitch in parts.

No club wants a running track around their pitch. Look at Eastlands and Molinuex. Both are terrible with supports about 20m from the pitch in parts.

Wolves doesn't have a running track round it DA, it's just that the stands well away from the pitch. Agree though it is a shit ground. I think Brighton and MK dons have track round them, as do many European grounds and it does nothing for the atmosphere.

The best ever ground for fans being close to the pitch was the old West Ham groind before they developed the stands. You were actually no more than 3 feet from the touch line.

There's no guarantee that any football club will take over after the Olympics, but if any one does I doubt it would be leyton.
