When it's match play handicap is just like your age... It's just a number. Play smart and you can beat blokes even 4or 5 shots better than you on your day...

Perhaps I should have maintained a higher handicap for championship.......lol

Club Champs is usually just stroke play in your grade, so your handicap does not come into it so much.

Just keep it out of the rubbish MT79, as best you can for the qualifying rounds.... then it may well be match play come the finals. Good luck!

Match play off the stick for the finals.

Unless you are on the low end of your grade you have no hope of winning club championships...

In A or B grade yes... C and D grade, that's a lottery IMHO!

I'm only speaking from experience. Made my club championship finals in 2010. Played two blinders in qualifying and as a result was a top 4 qualifier and the highest handicap (I was off 24 from memory) drew an alternate off 20 in the quarter finals was in the match at the turn but lost 4 holes in secession to end the match on the 14th.

I made a C grade club champ many years ago. I was 30 years younger than my opponent. IF I got it in play off the tee, I was 150 metres longer than him. But I hit it in the crap too much. The old bugger got me in the end. The following year I qualified in B grade, got smashed in the 1/4 final... Learnt a lot since those days... Still to win a club champ... One day!

First up today after a 8-10 week spell. Par Comp. Joking with the lads on the way down to Murray Bridge - if I finish 5 down or better.... I'm getting smashed...

First Tee hit it OB - scratch. Bogey second for half. Bogey putt missed on 3... scratch. Up & down par on 4 one down... then string 3 straight pars together - ALL WINS to to go 2 up. Chip in out of the bunker for bird... day looking better. Maker the turn 2 up. **** up 10 - then smash drive on 11 - only had 150 in on the par 5 - scratch the hole - WTF! - get it going again with another 3 pars. Round out the day 5 UP - leader in the clubhouse when I left.

Have drank many, many Corona's since that time.

Moral of the story - the less I play - the better I get.... so I am now retired from golf, selling my sticks..... and joining the ******* PGA tour!

Amongst my horrid 8s I did manage a nice birdie on 8.
My driving was fairly good today. Hit a nice drive which was down the right side of fairway which is perfect position.
Just over 150m to the flag where you can't really see the green or pin. Hit my 5 hybrid, just a nice soft smooth swing to try and control it down the right side, don't wanna go sightly left as it slopes away and there are also bunkers.
Get to the top of the rise and see my ball 3/4 metre from the pin, bang birdie!

We were discussing 'what handicap do you want to be at, at end of next season's

I'm hoping to be under 20.
In 2 years I'd like to think of be steady around 14-15
I'd like to get down to 10.

I was left of the first green behind a tree. Had No shot at all so I putted out but straight in to heavy rough, swung hard as I didn't think I'd get much ball but sure enough got all ball! Went straight over the other side of the green in the rough and the rest is history opened with a 7!

Then birdied the par 4 second. Funny game is golf.
