Hilton does it again!

Postby overloaded » Thu Mar 05, 2009 9:11 am

I was the Port Lincoln Cup Calcutta last night smoozing with clients and as they are about to auction of horse #15 son of spartacus Hilton gets up from the crowd and disrupts the auction waving his hands and carrying on in front of 400 people saying it was scratched and trying to stop the auction.
I left after the auction and he was out the door dealing with the GM and security. I heard him yelling 'This is Corruption"..." I am 44 years old and I know corruption when I see it"

He had a fair point as the horse was officially scrathed and everone was aware of it. But to carry on like that pissed in front of all those people and the PLRC commitee was a disgrace.

Surely the point HD was making that the horse was scr and they were about to auction it is the most important thing.
I thought usually with a calcutta that if your horse is scr you lose your money. Was this the case at Pt Lin or was there a refund if your horse was scratched?
what the club taking 10% out of whole price of horse and not 10% of the half which went to the calcutta pool. So people who won a horse in the raffle also lost 10% of the pool.

I heard he was ticking over which has gained more publicity than what he was alerting them too.

But what about the fact that HD spent the day at the venue and was on the hotels own table!!!!!
Meaning proberly a free tkt and free drinks. When does the responable serving of alcolhol come into play!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry bout the spelling.

HD knows how to find free grog and crayfish when he is in Port Lincoln, dont worry about that.

I Have spoken about this issue with people on both sides of the event.

The PLRC were of the understanding that the scratching was not official and couldnt contact the trainer to verify so they claim they had no choice but to auction the horse off on Wednesday night.

Hiltons case was that he advised them and everyone on course over the PA system that the TWO scratchings were official on Tuesday afternoon.

It looks as if the PLRC had plenty of time on late Tues and Wed to verify the scratching but didnt..... Hilton had a right to mention that it was scratched but after a few to many beverages he tried to stop the auction when that particular horse was being auctioned and make a reasonable scene (which the advertiser reported on). Contacts of mine at the event say he was loud and 3/4 pissed and telling everyone "this is corruption".

Hey in his defence, i was there, and it was no where near as bad as the paper made it sound, infact i'l go on record to say the pt lincoln racing club and phil Mc Evoy were clearly in the wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the horse was scratched a good 12 hours before the calcutta, and hilton was only trying to do the right thing by the buying public!

I was there to Zahov, what did it matter to him if the horse was scratched? he should have just shut up and kept drinking his chardonay!!!! instead of getting up infront of everyone making a fool of himself.
You are making him sound like a good samaratin!! I much prefer the advertisers story ;)

A couple of good points Zahov especially about "doing your money cold" ;)
Ive never been a huge Hilton fan but basically he was trying to do the right thing wasnt he ???? OK the way he went about it might not have been spot on and fuelled by grog but cut him a bit of slack ;) ;)
