Phuket, Thailand

Looking at going to Phuket next month, takin the Missus on a bit of a romantic getaway so its not one of THOSE trips. ;)

Any ideas on good places to stay or see? We plan to be there 10 nights.

Im leaning towards staying down the coast a bit as we just want to get away and avoid any hustle and bustle, I was thinking around Kata Beach as its still a cheap taxi ride from the Patong Beach.

Was looking at doing the Elephant ride/White Water Rafting trip as well as the sea kayaking into the caves and the James Bond Island trip. Anything else people can recommend, those experienced in going there do you think Im right in staying where I am?

Was leaning towards the Kata Beach Restort & Spa.

Any thoughts and feedback appreciated! :D

If you are looking for a quieter time, this is where the missus and I go every year

http://www.phuket.com/sheraton/

You can get deals of pay for 5 nights and get 5 nights free (ie) 10 nights for around $100 per night - check with the travel agents

Also, there are restaurants on the beach so you can eat there for a lot less then the hotels. Organise for breakfast in the hotel but eat at the beach for lunch and dinner - Lunch around $10 and dinner $20 each

get away from phuket is my tip!! - Phi Phi and Koh Lanta much nicer in every way!! can't stand the old westerners in thailand (especially phuket) in the arm of young pretty thai birds, it makes me sick.

Stayed there also. Very nice. And the restaurants on the beach top notch. Over on Bang Tao Bay, which is about 30 minutes from Patong (which is a busy/mad place. Good for a day trip and then get out).

BUT, personally I'd go to Krabi. A lot quieter and you can still do the Elephant & Boat things.....

Try the Sheraton there. Fantastic. Ao Nang is about 20 minutes away, as is Krabi town. Fantastic boat trips to Railay as well.....
The joy of being on the hill drinking beer cannot be understated

Cheers for that Pikey, looks good, the distance from the airport is appealing. Only thing is it looks too 'kid friendly' as we dont want to be stuck near any families. How did you find it in that regard?

Not a problem - There were a few families but we didn't have a problem as it is expensive compared to the hotels further along the bay. Plus they tended to go on tours during the day, whilst the missus and I were just putting debits in the cancer bank.

The alternative is that you could stay at the Banyan Tree next door but it is far more expensive -The Sheraton Grande Laguna is 6 star but the BT is even more exclusive.

As I said before, we go every April - Bang Tao Bay is a paradise

Regarding Phi Phi Island etc., you can book that, and any other, tour on the beach in front of the Sheraton. Well worth doing the day trip to Phi Phi. Was really good fun.

If you want cheap shirts etc, they sell them on the beach; but without the hard sell that you get in Patong. If they haven't got what you want, you just ask and its there the next day

Plus, they have transport into Patong if you want a night in the madness or go to the kickboxing on Saturday nights which my lad and I do

Golf - they can organise it for you at the BT

Pub - there is a good English pub about 10 mins away

You've got me all emotioned up - can I come with you?

I went in December last year. Stayed at a 5 star resort the Twin Palms on Surin Beach. It costs a good 250 - 400 baht to get to Patong but it was a sweet resort.

Got it on a great deal with those Retravision travel vouchers. Knocked $1000 off our accomodation.

I'll back up the reference to Phi Phi island.

lol, I think the missus would leave me if I spent any time on the net!
I might get online before she wakes up in the morning, that'd be my only chance. ;)

Suva is the captal of Fiji and was not affected at all by the Tsunami. I was in Fiji when it happened.
