Round 6 Port Magpies v Panthers Sat 1st May

Postby GWW » Mon Apr 26, 2010 10:35 pm

The Magpies will be looking at opening their account at Alberton this week, but the Panthers are in good form and judging by their last quarter against WWT can run their games out well.

My tip: Panthers by 11 points.

Winning form is good form, and the Magpies don't have much of that.

South has had a reasonable record at Alberton the last few years too.

If Port get back Clayton and Cloke and a couple of other blokes, they could be a real show.

With the amount of youngsters in their side, i just can't tip Port with any confidence against anyone.

South looked pretty good against the Eagles and if Port couldn;t knock of Norwood then I would suggest South by 4-5 goals. If South are going to give the 5 a red hot go they can't afford to drop this game. I think the top 7 are pretty even with Norwood and Port improving as the season goes on but not a real contender.

Based on last weeks performance against the Eagles no doubt many would tip South for this one, yet factor in the fact that its at Alberton and South dont have a good record there and the fact that Fuller had some advantage coaching against players that he was well aware of the weaknesses and strengths of, I dont think its all that clear cut to tip South. Port will be very hard to beat at Alberton and fate would suggest that they are going to record a win sooner rather than later.

Yet being an SAFC supporter I will tip South to win it, but I think it will be a lot closer game than what people think!

Clayton, Cloke & Mickeljohn all back in for Port and possible McKernan to Crows will turn this Maggies home game to their advantage, besides South seem camera shy and usually play poorly when on tv. If Panthers play like they did against the Eagles this game will be a beaut.

They were pretty decent on the tellybox in Round 1 v Sturt.

Sadly, South by 18 points.

Is Cloke defiately back this week? I thought he was likely to miss 2 weeks.

Couldn't possibly tip against the Panthers in this one...

With their confidence sky high and Port's at rock bottom, I'd see South getting up by 5 goals +...

Things are looking great down at Noarlunga - when are the board giving Ron the flick? ;)

50/50 call this one. South far from certainties. 5 day break, albeit Port only have a 6 day break.

Will be the 150th match for Skipper Ben Warren :ymapplause:

That is sad news.

Hopefully we can see him running around again with the panthers in the next couple of years.

I know all teams have injuries but the calibre of players on this list is getting quite frustrating. All pushing for League selection. Add in the experience of Cloke, and the Magpies are severely lacking size and height. Thank goodness J Clayton will be back.

Daniel Lees - foot - 4 weeks
Kory Beard - back - Indefinite
James Meiklejohn - hamstring - Test
Daniel Stanley - foot - 5 weeks
Matthew Lokan - foot - Test
Scott Lycett - hamstring - 2 weeks
Cameron Miller - hamstring - Test
Peter Lindsay - hip - Test
Jordan Erskine - knee - 2 weeks

Oh boy you wouldn't want to see Centrals injury list then.

Must be frustrating to have those injuries every club gets them. South have 9 or 10 out but probably only 2 would go straight back into seniors. It must be very different for Port supporters to come to turns with how it feels like to be rock bottom. Every dog has there day.

Completely sucks mate.
What sucks more is that constant thought in the back of my head that this could be the last time we go around. And going out with a spoon makes that even harder to bare.

Agree every club gets injuries. Looking at it from a positive point of view, it gives more of our younger players the chance to step up and hopefuly impress Bangers and all of us.

I can guarantee no-one in the Port Adelaide hierarchy believes this will be our last year. Tough, but not final.

And the problem with the injury list is, it is those young players looking to impress who are on it.
