Spot on, and that's how I feel about weddings too. If I actually wanted something, I'd have gone out and bought it already. If I couldn't afford it, I'd wait.

Occasions like birthdays, Christmas, weddings etc should be about the gathering of people to celebrate that particular person/occasion/couple etc. At least, that's all I ask for those times.

I always start with, "I really don't need anything - just come."
If they keep pressing I eventually say, "A Ferrari."
Then I watch their faces for a few moments before restating that a present is not needed as I already have everything I want other than the Ferrari.

I have a budget of $300 for 4 tyres for a Focus. I know thats on the very low side, but its pretty much all I can afford.

Try Cluse Bros. Tyrepower at Parafield. Their prices are pretty good, and it's the only place we get our tyres.

Them and City Discount Tyres at Pt Adelaide were the best of the lot. I'll probably go to Tyrepower. They've helped me out before.

I had success with a Bob Jane franchise here by getting a quote from a Melbourne franchise - admittedly a more expensive tyre.

Adelaide franchise 1. $270 a tyre.
Adelaide franchise 2. $250 a tyre.
Fern Tree Gully, VIC. $215 a tyre.

Franchise 2. then offered me them at $220.

Among cheaper tyres for lower powered vehicles, I had a good experience with Kellys on a Suzuki mini-traytop.

I feel your pain, brother.

The people in my life are manifestly incapable of giving me what I want for my birthday, which is usually "to be left the f*** alone".

Not "duping" which Implies illegality - "outsmarting" is the correct term. ;)

I wouldn't buy a Ferrari anyway, even if I could spare that much dough.
As I once said to an Italian gentleman car dealer I know well, "I've owned an Alfa, and a Maserati, why would I buy another Italian car?!"
