Is it worth me buying a scooter for the work commute? Has anyone got one or did do once?

$1500 for a 50cc so I don't need a bike license
cheap to run, $20/Mth rego, and about $15/ fnight in fuel

Tossing it up... Thoughts?
I am not talking to you for 3 minutes because you punched me in the head and it hurt and that was not okay for you to do

Any office I worked in years ago had 2, for running errands around the city. Was great for that (and races during after work drinks), up the few times I took one home was a pain in the arse. And that was city to broadview. If you're more than 10 minutes from work I'd not bother, personally.

I would counsel very heavily against it. I rode bikes for 25 years and the last thing I would get would be one of those scooters.
Little wheels, little brakes, little performance etc.
Not needing a bike license imo is not a positive. Having the bloke in the shop point out the controls and throw fuel consumption figures at you does nothing to teach you roadcraft. You cannot ride one of those things in the same manner that you drive a car. You will have zero "presence" on the road.
No matter what you wear, your cloak of invisibility will be dominant.
If you don't have the performance to match take off and cruising speeds with the other traffic you are a potential mobile speed bump.
What will you risk for $15 f/night in fuel?

My question is, if you accept the quote is that like a contract and that is all you have to pay...?

Sure is. Sometimes those there is extra work that needs to be doe and isn't seen until your in the middle of job. In saying that though he should of stopped shown you the problem and given you another quote to fix it. A no time should he go a head and do extra work and expect you to pay extra on top of your quote.

That's about right ^. Was there anything on paper, eg prices for siteworks, retaining & paving itemised? Standard practice is that if a variation pops up it should be discussed & a price set for the works as the work is in progress.
Did the variation bill have the actual variations listed or just verbalized?
If working for a builder/ contractor variations are always on paper & signed off by all parties before the work progresses.

Just happened to me just then. Said he mis-calculated and under quoted on concrete after the job has been finished and expects me to pay an extra $1000 on top of the quote. He also said that it would all be done in 6 days. It's been 6 weeks. Not once was it discussed that it was going to cost any extra, and if he mis calculated, then bad luck.

He is getting what was remaining on the original quote, which does not have anything saying in it about variations or that the price is subject to change.
