You gave us a real good ass kicking today. Hopefully this is what we needed to get back on track.

Well done North.

Great to see your magnanimous comments. Appreciated.

Was an excellent win, and hopefully the Mighty Roosters continue to go from strength to strength.

Game on next week Port v BAys, on Sunday, should be packed from the rafters....

Chance for us to go 4th........

If we play like we did in the last quarter we will brain Port

Play like we did in the first 3 quarters.....the converse will apply.....

I might have to come across for this game.....we will need all the support we can get....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

If Port play against Glenelg the way we did against, we may as well just kiss the finals goodbye.

From The Roost:

North's 22.14 (146) is the club's 4th highest score ever against Port
North's 22.14 (146) is the club's 2nd highest against Port @ Alberton (Highest is 22.15-147 in Rd 17, 1983)

North's 72-point winning margin is the Biggest win @ Alberton (previous best 50 pts in Rd 8, 1981)

3rd win in a row @ Alberton equals our longest winning sequence of 3 from 1996-98.

1st Q 8.1 equalled most goasl ever in 1st Q at any ground

On another tangent, I 'd be interested to know Norwood supporters opinion of their club in saying Down wasn't good enough for league footy when he played for North in a start studded side today. I doubt they could blame the salary cap on that one.

Also kudos for the Snouts for giving Hargs crap and saying he was past it, he was awesome again today.

PS Full marks to the Port supporters today that ignored the umpiring and whinged about having 2 or 3 players out injured after we beat them at Prospect earlier this year with 8 players out.

Disappointing from Port.

Your can't play one qtr of footy and win a game and thats why we were beaten so easy. I didn't see the game so I can't call on how we played and who was the best, but I can read the picture and it's not good.

Love the way Alleway waved to the North fans (in reponse to the cheer- "Allo Allo Alleway, Alleway, Alleway) whilst runnig down the wing, then hitting a forward lace out.
The first time a personalised chant has been constructed for a player on debut!

Unfortunately I dont have a home computer at the moment so cant write up a review of the match. Will do a quick one here and might do a proper one If I get it back tomorrow.

Reserves was almost a carbon copy of last week for the Magpies. 13 points up at 3 quarter time and given a pasting in the last quarter. Maybe they arent fit. North looked great in that last quarter. Port were nowhere to be seen.

Best players - Coulter and Motlop were good for North. Ebert and Mcentee were also very good. Looby kicked 5 for Port, Cam Miller was probably best.e

Excellent first quarter by both sides in the league match. Looked like it was going to be a real good shootout all day - very accurate kicking as well. Then Clive went off and it was game over. North raised the intensity and Port couldnt go with them. North were too tall and too quick all day. Much tougher as well.

Wedgie - yes we had a lot of injuries. We lost two key players from the week before, had a player pull out which meant a player who played a full reserves game had to play, then had no bench by half time. Hard to contest against a pretty much full strength top of the table team in that situation. Im not fussed. You thrashed us and deserved to.

Eagles look in supreme form at the moment but North look just as good. With all their tall timber playing they are a very formidable side. If Motlop ends up playing finals they could end up kicking record finals scores.

Many things impressed me with how they played yesterday. First off their constant attack on the player with the ball...especially at ball ups/throw ins. Huge intense gang tackling and not giving us an inch all day.

Second off their ability to find space. Not just space but to end up with 3 or 4 players in the middle of the ground with no opponent near them. Not sure if this happens every week with them or if it just happened because we were extra slack in manning up.

A North v Eagles GF would be a cracker. Thats if North dont **** up thier chances this year like the last two.

As for Port...dissapointing. We cant compete against the big 3 at the moment. We should make the finals and we have some breathing space at the moment. Never know once you get there and hopefully we can get some of these guys back before the finals. Weve done it from 4th spot and the elimination final before in 1998.

I don't think any Norwood fans are to dissapointed about Down, I think you would find most are happy to see him progressing, I know I am. I have never heard the salary cap mentioned about Down ever. Its been years since he was there and at the time wouldn't have made our team and with Nicholas and Meeson at the moment still might not, who knows. Often some players just play better in good teams as you would know. Don't forget he wasn't good enough to make your reserves side last year in the GF. I think credit goes to the guy for sticking it out.

Good write up Macca19. Injuries are really hurting Port and exposing lack of depth at the moment.

Doesn't help when Kinglsey doesn't take the field to start the game and Waterhouse - who started really well went off after 3 goals early. Morrison was freakishly unlucky - copping a Hargraves boot to the hand and getting injured and then having to come back on - but I thought he didn't do much really and has been a little disappointing from what I have seen of him this year. He looks lost goign from the fwd line to the back line and back again all day long and it seems to take it's toll on Achee who is used to plug key position gaps - he is a class defender and should just play back but not having another fwd other than Waterhouse and with Morrison so out of form I guess he needs to try and ad some size up front.

I would question why Jeremy Clayton goes against the coaches instructions and tries for big pack marks. It was mentioned on the TV yesterday by both the coach and the commentators. He got "crunched" at least 3 times yesterday against much bigger bodies and ultimately paid the price. Even without those injuires I still think North would have won comfortably as we had too many talls and our pressure and leg speed would have worn you down eventually (as it did but alot quicker than many predicted). Still suprising the ease with which we won considering we were clearly beaten in the rucks and centre clearances - which Jars mentioned on the TV and an area we really need to pick up on. Too many half and 3/4's of games not getting 50/50 clearances this year and teams like the Eagles will really make us pay - like they did a few weeks ago. Hudson coming back this week - and if we hang onto him might stir some action out of O'Hara and Wakelin.

Injuries and depth is something which North has been able to cover this year given our huge injury list for most of the first part of the season but we managed to still win most games. Also the reliance on AFL players (which alot of Port supporters whinge about not having them) should be a luxury or bonus - not a necessity. From past experience North suffered from the same syndrome over the past couple of years but this year geared it's recruiting around not having any AFL players available. We were lucky getting Motlop for a few games at the height of our injury crisis (he certainly helped win the games over Norwood and Sturt). If Perrie had not of played yesterday we still would have had 3 tall fwds - all his selection did was allow Gill to play the bulk of the game as a ruck rover - not bad for the leading marking player in he SANFL (per game average) and at 6 ft 4 as well.

Rumours abound at Port about discontent with the coach etc and one of your high paid ex AFL recruits certainly is playing like he doesn't want to be at Alberton? For a key position player he spends alot of time at the back of the play "sucking in" easy possies and disposals?

I have a feeling that we may have also had a chant for Ashley Bond on his debut, but I'm prepared to be proved wrong!

Round 1 at the Parade in the 1990. IIRC we were chanty "Bondy Bondy" that day as well as a few other chants
