Well.... with Gary Ablett and Bomber gone, they will be a very interesting looking outfit!! but i believe with these two guys gone, Geelong can still be a strong side, winning 75% of games.... Other guys will step up and you watch this mob will be up there again....

Personally they will finish top 4, still have a great side.

Another chapter of the rivalry between Geelong and St Kilda will be written in round one of the 2011 home and away season, with the two sides doing battle in the opening Friday night match.

Due to Anzac Day and Easter coinciding, Geelong will meet Hawthorn on Tuesday, April 26, which is the Anzac Day public holiday. To ensure both teams have adequate time to recover from that game, the Cats and Hawks have the bye in round six.

Geelong has seven home matches at Skilled Stadium and all eyes will be on the round-seven clash with North Melbourne, which will be the first regular-season coaching battle between twin brothers Chris and Brad Scott.

The positive signs are that Scarlett is reportedly burning up the track, Jimmy B is fully fit, Joel Selwood is revelling in his vice captaincy role & 2 youngsters Menzel & Hogan have put on size and strength & look in great nick.
Add to that it must be a break out year for Hawkins, Mackie will not be as ordinary this season, full seasons from Stokes, Ottens & Corey can only add to stability.
Then the re-sicning of Trav Varcoe shows that all is not falling apart at the cattery.
My only concern is that of our skipper not having the pace to tag the best players anymore. I would love to see him roaming the forward lines more often as i think he has the ability to kick/ create alot of goals for us.

Moeman well and truly taking his seat again on the Cats wagon.

Hmmm, we've been waiting for a break out season from Tom Hawkins for a while. And I'm not all that confident of Joel Corey's return to full fitness either. No, the improvement that must come from Geelong if it is to remain in the top four must come from increased game time from blokes like Menzel, Hunt, Duncan and players like Bartel and hopefuly Varcoe stepping up in the ruck.

I'd like to see Mitchell Brown getting a few games because Mooney is slowing down by the second and we need one of Dawson, West or Vardy to come on fast as Blake is limited and Otto will never give us 22 games again.

Geelong now have the oldest list in the comp and I couldn't believe it when we retained Milburn for another year and let Laidler go. It's time to tap a few on the shoulders. According to the AFL prospectus Geelong have debuted 10 players since 2007 so not all is lost in terms of the up and coming generation of Cats (not so sure about Hogan though).

If we play to our ability we go top four but we might have to accept the fact that we may go 5-8. I reckon we can make the finals and at least win one.

REB is right on the money there.......would be really sad if Hawkins doesn't do justice to the genes he was given. Seems such a waste with a physique like his that he hasn't taken the next step.

It seems over the past decade or so, clubs are able to build to windows of say 4-5 years where they are very good football sides, and then possibly due to lesser quality draft picks, lose their dominance. Whether that side takes a dive (ala Port in 2008) or slowly come back to the pack is up to the strength of the club & it's players.

Collingwood appear to be the side to stand tall for the next few years, and there are some sides which I think we will see big things out of in maybe 2012 and beyond (Melbourne, Carlton, North & Port are just some of those on the improve).

Some sides are simply not quite good enough when it really matters, and whilst they may be good enough to finish 3 to 8, they are really quite some distance from a flag. Sides like the Bulldogs & St Kilda will be around the mark for another year or two before what I think will be a reasonable slide & I fear Hawthorn could do the same too.

Geelong would appear to be on a downward course, however - there is enough class in the side to still be very competitive, who knows - change of game style might be just what they needed and the loss of Ablett might not be as significant as many people think. Age will get them in the end, rate of descent is the question.

Will still finish somewhere 3rd to 5th in my opinion, but they'll be coming from everywhere in 2012.

Sorry Runna but Port are nowhere near it. The Demons have injury problems and Carlton are crap. North I reckon will knock on the door and the Blues will stay in the eight but we'll finish ahead of all of those sides I reckon.

Oakely doakley. Anyone tipping Geelong for top four and higher probably need to factor in the injury factor. Ling has already done a string and Scarlett hurt his ankle and Bang goes the Drum already. Scarlett is a real worry and soft tissue injuries for veteran players is never a good look.

Ive got Geelong finishing 6-9 this year.

Haven't got the depth they have had in previous years and injury concerns already to senior players can't be good.

Interesting to see if Scott can stop this downward spiral!

There's still a lot of talent there despite Ablett going so I reckon Geelong will be around the mark of the top 4 again.

Bartel, Chapman, Selwood, Kelly, Scarlett, Enright & Corey (left a few off probably) are still elite players in the comp.

If Scott can get the forward line working around the J-Pod they are still a dangerous side for mine.

Has it occured to you that players with a comfortable position under Thompson might now actually have to perform to get a game? Last year our coach was on the phone to the Bombers in July while he was having a running 5hit fight with Captain Cashin last year. We are well shod of both of them and while Ablett remains a gun player, there is still enough talent at Catland to make the eight at the very least.

Well we did see what effect a coach with charisma did at the Lions last year.
