End of season ladder via rest of year tips

Postby SANFLnut » Tue Jul 05, 2011 5:33 pm

Following on from the local footy MMCM this week I had a go myself at tipping the rest of year. My thoughts were:

3. EAGLES (7-5):
Wins: Glenelg (a), West (h), Port (a)
Losses:Norwood (h),Central (a),Glenelg (h),South (a),West (a)
Finish:10-10

4. WEST (6-6):
Wins:Eagles (h), North (h), Glenelg (h)
Losses:Central (a), Eagles (a), Norwood (a), South (a), Sturt (h).
Finish:9-11

5. GLENELG (5-1-7):
Wins: Eagles (h),South (h), Sturt (h), Port (h)
Losses: Port (a), Eagles (a), West (a).
Finish:9-1-10

6. SOUTH (5-1-6):
Wins:West (h), Eagles (h),
Losses:Central (h), Sturt (a), Norwood (h), Glenelg (a), North (a),Norwood (a).
Finish:7-1-12

7. PORT (5-7):
Wins:Glenelg (h), North (h), Sturt (a),
Losses:Sturt (a), Norwood (a), Central (h), Glenelg (a), Eagles (h).
Finish:8-12

8. STURT (4-9):
Wins:Port (h), South (h),North (h), West (a).
Losses:Central (a), Glenelg (a), Port (h)
Finish: 8-12

9. NORTH (3-9):
Wins:South (h)
Losses: Norwood (a), Central (h), West (a), Port (a),Sturt (a), Norwood (h), Central (a).
Finish: 4-16

These results would leave the ladder looking like this:

3. EAGLES (10-10)
4. GLENELG (9-1-10)
5. WEST (9-11)
6. Port (8-12)
7.Sturt (8-12)
8. South (7-1-12)
9. North (4-16)

Furthermore the games I am not sure about include west beating North at Prospect and Port beating Sturt at Adelaide Oval. Flip those two results around and Sturt go in and West drop out.

the finish to the bottom end of the five may well have no impact on the flag, but it should be a great battle for the last couple of spots.

Try it yourself.

Given this is a 9 team comp, then the exercise would have a lot more value including the other two teams . I realise MMCM didn't do 9 teams either, but surely it can be done here if people are going to look at 7 teams?

Still plenty of upsets to happen. One of the most even comps in years, only a couple of wins separating 4th to 9th

I agree Jim05. When ever you try and forecast an end of season table, you should include an upset victory and lose.

Therefore my prediction is.............North too win every game, except an upset lose to Centrals away and finish third.

Central to lose just 1 more match, against The Wiggles at Woodville.

Ok, except that I have tipped the games involving Centrals or Norwood with these seven teams. The only games I have not provided a winner for are the ones between Centrals and Norwood. They meet at Lizbeef in Round 22 and I think Centrals will win and secure top spot, with Norwood finishing second.

CENTRAL DISTRICT
NORWOOD
WOODVILLE WEST TORRENS
WEST ADELAIDE
GLENELG
PORT ADELAIDE MAGPIES

The bookies really don't like South. Understandable, but hard to really believe they're a worse chance than North.

What ridiculous programming that South have to play last year's top side 3 times plus North have to play Central & Norwood twice from now until the end of the season.

Not ridiculous at all. Whoever you play 3 times one year you play twice the next, and vice versa.

umm, i think his talking about the fact that in Norths last 8 games of the year 4 of them are against 2 sides Central and Norwood.

This thread assumes that Centrals and Norwood won't lose a game against the other 7 sides for the rest of the season. Surely that won't happen?

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. The closeness of the comp should see a few upsets against the Dogs and the Legs...

Revised end of season ladder after Port "upset" Sturt yesterday. At least I got 1 from 2 correct. More revisions to come I am sure

1. CENTRALS (18-2)
2. NORWOOD (16-4)
3. EAGLES (10-10)
4. GLENELG (9-1-10)
5. WEST (9-11)
6. Port (9-11)
7. South (7-1-12)
8. Sturt (7-13)
9. North (4-16)

Port & West nearly tied on % now too. It is getting even closer.

With South beating Sturt the battle for 4th to 7th gets even tighter than I had predicted.

1. CENTRALS (18-2)
2. NORWOOD (16-4)
3. EAGLES (10-10)
4. GLENELG (9-1-10)
5. WEST (9-11)
6. Port (9-11)
7. South (8-1-11)
8. Sturt (6-14)
9. North (4-16)
