IMO they should abolish wages/salary tax and have GST on everything

I was under the impression that our income tax rate is one of the highest. Still don't see why the GST should be raised.

Most of non Mediterranean Europe is higher, especially scandi countries.

Our max rate does look high, but almost no one pays tax at that rate because if our very generous and complicated deduction regime.

That's why GST works, because you can't avoid it

Are we better of with a sober Rhodes scholar or a drunken one. ;)

Actually, the guy I went through Medicine with who won a Rhodes scholarship was only moderately bright, but very diligent about trying to win it.
(So perhaps it is primarily a reward for being earnest or having something to prove.)
