Even more concerning to me is that Abbott and brandis clearly actually have no idea what metadata actually is. Brandis was embarrassing this morning. Surely a brief of a few hours would have got them up to speed

Sadly its the world we live in today. Radicals that think it is their right to cause maximum destruction.

Other wise a deranged fool could strike at an event with thousands of Australians attending at the MCG for instance...

Yes but does that mean every citizen in Australia needs to be under surveillance? There has to be a line somewhere. And they already have warrants that will allow them to gain access to this same information. This will just mean they can effectively do it for everyone

Given we've been at war for over a decade, either the threat of retaliation is not real or existing laws work just fine.

Either way, there is no need to legislate for the assumption that we're all criminals.

This is why they don't see a need to have a science minister. They clearly just don't even gaf about it, and put it down to a "belief"

what i find scary is the bunch of troglodytes are legislating for things that they quite obviously have no understanding of. although, i suppose ignorance has never stopped any other politician in the past

Pyne also bringing the lulz:

SARAH FERGUSON: However, do you accept that there is a hit in the way that you've set up the loan repayments that hurts women and poorer people more than it does high income earners? Do you accept that's the consequence?

CHRISTOPHER PYNE: No, absolutely not. And I don't accept it because what will happen at universities is that vice chancellors and their leadership teams will know that they should not charge and will not charge higher fees for courses which are typically going to be studied by people who'll be nurses and teachers and therefore not earn high incomes over a period of time. Now, women are well-represented amongst the teaching and nursing students. They will not be able to earn the high incomes that say dentists or lawyers will earn, and vice chancellors in framing their fees, their fee structure, will take that into account. Therefore the debts of teachers and nurses will be lower than the debts, for example, of lawyers and dentists.
